Thriller 40th Anniversary

There may be something I not notice yet when I posted: https://mofi.com/pages/michael-jackson-thriller
(As MJb2 also juste mentionned).

But, only LP and SACD ? And I guess the SACD won't have bonus tracks ?
+ some SACDs releases of Thriller use the 2008 mastering, making them no better than any 2001/2008 CD...

Now regarding MoFi ... yeah I know that should be good work. Though, the only SACD I own and have heard other than Thriller is Bob Dylan's "Blood On The Tracks" MoFi SACD and ... I enjoy the mastering of some random CD of that album better than this MoFi SACD, not sure why... So, good signs, but I'll have to wait until I hear stuff.

PS: Yet another correction to what I just wrote, the posts mention that the MoFi will be master from original analog master tapes. So yeah, sounds like some good attention is being paid to audio quality there. We'll see.

That cover art absolutely, beyond words, sucks.

I hope the second disc delivers here because still no mention of the short films either. Sheesh!

I am so excited for this release, but I am dry heaving at the cover art…

It looks like an intern’s first attempt at using Canva. The fact that they have it on other merch too really concerns me that they won’t change it and I just don’t understand how this could happen lol.

MoFi pressings are usually mastered by themselves using the highest quality sources available. Knowing that, I don't think they'll be using previous masters or even the same master as the regular 2-disc set. While I'm not 100% sure about the SACD, I'm sure the vinyl set will probably become the best sounding version of the album, surpassing the famous US 1st pressing.

What do you mean by this? Some SACDs? There's no other Thriller SACD other than the one released in 1999 and 2000 (which did obviously not have the 2001 Mastering.)
No, i am not counting the DSD from streaming sites, but to my knowledge, they should be the same as the original SACD.

such wonderful news💜 what a perfect day to announce it, on the anniversary of when Michael's Motown 25 performance of 'Billie Jean' was first broadcasted. I haven't been this happy about anything Michael-related in years💜

Thriller SACDs:
US 1999: https://www.discogs.com/release/10541656-Michael-Jackson-Thriller
Japan 2000: https://www.discogs.com/release/2752058-Michael-Jackson-Thriller
US 2006: https://www.discogs.com/release/4687694-Michael-Jackson-Thriller
US 2006: https://www.discogs.com/release/2459433-Michael-Jackson-Thriller

Is it this last one that you call "DSD" ?

(PS: So, it's something read from SteveHoffman forum I think, that some/ (or later) Thriller SACDs use the same mastering as 2001/2008. I haven't heard them myself.)

Will be curious to see what they include. We can definitely expect the demos we already have. Hopefully they are properly mixed and mastered and don't sound like trash.
Well, the demo tracks on BAD25 weren't that bad.

Seeing that the SACD is produced from the original masters is a welcome surprise!

Not even gonna comment on the new logo, because… wow.

Who cares lol
I don't want to believe it, but what if they just release the leaked demos (Hot Street, Nite Line, etc)?
They’re 100% going to include the leaked demos, which I’m fine with (having “Trouble” and “Hot Street” in HQ, and giving them a moment in the spotlight, will be great) as long as it’s balanced out with an equal or greater amount of totally unheard tracks.
Yeah that's what I'm scared the most, but as long as it's like Xscape and there's some new stuff then it's fine

Although it's not Thriller Era, I really hope the estate takes advantage of this Anniversary to release more stuff as well and specifically
Throwing Your Life Away

Also, for those talking about the SACD, they aren't worth anything, I refuse to believe any of you can hear the difference between a CD and SACD which uses the same master.

Bad 25/Bad 2012 is probably the worst MJ remaster to date, besides Thriller 25th, i hope they don't mess up that badly again.
The 2012 remaster of Bad, the album, is completely unlistenable. "Overcompressed" and "painfully loud" are understatements.
Distortion is obvious throughout the disc, especially on the loudest tracks (Smooth Criminal and Leave Me Alone).

In a more extensive MJ discography, I think that "Get It Together" CD remasters compete well in there.
Also... from my memories Off The Wall 2016 is worse...

Indeed, it's crazy how bad it is. (No pun intended)

Yeah I agree with this one. But the point here is that they are expected to have a good mastering (since that's what MoFi does).

It's not about the format, it never is, really.
The most important thing for an album is the mastering, and MoFi is usually expected to release good remasters.
I couldn't care less if it was a SACD, an LP or a standard Red-Book CD as long as the mastering was good.

My point is that I find it very unlikely for the MoFi issues (SACD and vinyl) to use the same master as the 1999 SACD or even the same master as the 2-disc set.

Off The Wall 2016 is pretty bad too, there's a lot of contenders for "worst remaster", really, which in retrospective, it's kinda sad lol

Prediction: We're FINALLY going to get to hear Chicago 1945.

Yes, I know it was recorded in 1984 after Thriller, but, we've seen them release a Porcaro track on Thriller 25 that was meant for Dangerous (For All Time) so that doesn't mean it would matter.

And, consider the fact the Estate wanted to release Chicago 1945 on Xscape but Porcaro shot it down when he found it that it would've been remixed. So Thriller 40 presents to opportunity to release it as is, finally.

I was thinking exactly the same. Also Buffalo Bill.

Would be dope if. But if they'll follow the same philosophy as they did on Bad25 then nothing post 1982 can appear on the album.

Seeing that Chicago 1945 is a fully-finished song, I think they’ll hold onto that one for a studio album or single. No use wasting it on a reissue (though I am dying to hear it).

Honestly, I think that most of the stuff from the album sessions has been either leaked or released already. Most of the unreleased stuff is from 1983-84, which is technically still Thriller-era (Bad is 1985-1989, right?).
