Atheist thread

Religion in itself is political, like all hierarchical ideology. It's about control by mental homogeneity... and often merely tries to maintain a monopoly on morality, limiting our empathy and realms of freedom.

Spirituality, on the other hand, is about our relationship to the whole existance and each other, and is vital to us, to long term survival, to dance, to dream together, sharing art and stories and tending the land around us.. deepening our empathy which is the basis of true moral behavior.

I though, wait, this is something I would rather call "existentialism", then I asked Google "difference existentialism and spirituality". Google said: "Key points. A core tenet of existentialism is that we exist, and we make meaning of our existence. A core definition of spirituality is recognizing that there is something that transcends our human existence. Taking conscious responsibility for your choices is empowering and grounding."

Doesn't match your definition I think.

Considering these, if I'd see spirituality like a trolleybus, then I'd compare religion to a train in a long tunnel.

Interesting topic, I'll give my opinion

I think that God as a single all-encompassing energy is one.
In different religions, God is called differently, referring to the names of energetically strong people who were his guides at different times.
God is neither a man nor a woman, but God is both one and the other and everything that exists at the same time, or rather, he is in everything in general. This is not someone who sits on the clouds. Energy is he. In my opinion, it also shows itself strongly in feelings of love and gratitude.
Religions actually complicate and confuse everything, because each of them is, first of all, a set of rules that establish some restrictions in society (any country) that make it possible to control people and their behavior.
When you read some sacred scripture, the main question you should ask yourself is: Who wrote it and for what purpose? Because all these books were written not by God, but by people. Each of these people had their own ideas in their heads about how society should be structured so that this particular “writer” could live comfortably in it.

I think that there is a piece of the divine in every person, especially in children
I believe that everything is not just like that, that miracles happen. There have been amazing things, amazing coincidences in my life. Including when I prayed for something. This doesn't happen quickly, but if you do it persistently and confidently.....
The Bible says, “according to your will, be it done to you.” This phrase is one of the few that is really worth paying attention to. Similar phrases are found in other sacred texts

If someone chooses to be an atheist, then this is good, and God will help him in these beliefs, providing more and more evidence that there is no God. This is the will of this person, he chose it himself. And that's okay
Each of us is free to choose for ourselves what is closer to our understanding of how this world works, which is different for each of us. For some, friendly (in accordance with his many years of beliefs), for others, dangerous... It's all so interesting, in fact..
We know little; according to research, still use only 3-10% of the human brain, although by nature it is designed to work at 100%. Who knows what truth about the world will be revealed to people if one day we are able to use the capabilities of our bodies to their full potential
What I write here is not the ultimate truth, just thoughts;)but some of the works of Carl Jung suggest such thoughts

God is in each of us, if you learn to listen to your heart, over the years you can understand a lot. I know that everything is not just like that, that miracles happen. I disagreed with quite a lot of this but there was some really interesting stuff in there. It was thought-provoking which I think is always a good thing to aim for.

Gods and religions are products of the human brain to keep life in this world in order.

How then does it differ from a code of laws?
Back then, church and state were one. Today the influence of the church in industrialized nations has declined dramatically. People no longer seek their salvation in a fictitious heavenly future, but in the here and now and try to optimize society and themselves. This is closer to reality than falling prey to some religious pied pipers and filling their wallets.

I can't catch up with the whole conversation right now but...
I would rather think that religions were tools to subjugate and command populations at a much smaller scale than "the world", sometimes leading to war against each other.
Thinking of Arabic tribes fighting each other before Islam, thinking of them still fighting over various flavours of Islam, thinking of Christianity in European history, thinking of Crusades etc...

There's also a redirecting of responsibilities... Like, it's not the leader(s) who said something, it's god(s). So, less need to justify choices. And yet, if the plan fails, it's not the leader's fault, it's the people who failed to serve god(s). All of this may come handy in troubled times.

In principle we mean the same thing. Humans tend to overestimate themselves, even though they are only animals. In addition to humans, there are other animals that form states. None of this is unusual in nature.

Although I am not an atheist, I agree with this, especially with regard to replenishing other people’s wallets due to adherence to religion or sects. People fall into traps, their minds become clouded
I don’t understand fanatics of religious movements. In my opinion, when people become very fixated on one of the ideologies, it becomes dangerous. Examples include extremism and terrorism. My views are a little similar to Buddhism (the original, oldest religion). Just calm faith, home meditations... without scary and stupid donations into someone else's pocket

1) I do not remember if I already mentioned this in this thread but that reminds me, in this song... it's weird to hear MJ tell God what he would do.

And I just realised this song is a cover:

2) Also reminds me of some "perfect" songs on the topic (all by the same band). (I'm trying to remember of other artists who address this kind of topics in a constructed way... not falling into the whining of a Bon Jovi's Hey God in example. Also, it's self-centered song on the song's main character, so, doesn't really even address the topic.)

Chimaera asks God why he created us the way he did + the fact that he doesn't seem to care/matter anymore in here :

Better Off Dead is God explaining that he was kind of careless this time, but that if he ever recreates the world he'll try to take our opinion into account:

Sorrow is another one questioning God on why he doesn't make the world better (this one often makes me think of Heal The World , not exactly, but in the sense that it is the one that got the most "humanitarian hymn" vibe for this band, and because of the "soldiers lay their weapons down" / "swords into plowshares" lines)

Hi, everyone 🤍 I believe in the fact that we are all Mother Nature's sons and daughters. If there is something higher than us, Nature is. Most religions only spread blood and separate people, they did this during centuries and centuries. Mostly wars than prayers. Michael once said "We need to bond again": this is what we have to do, this is what human beings need, to live in peace and heal our world, even just a little bit. In my opinion, humans have to understand that we are part of the Earth, we came from her and we will return there. We have to take care of ourselves and our first home... This is my religion. Ps. @Michaels Lover I'm with you and I agree with the pictures you uploaded here!
