La Shawn Daniels and Dr. Freeze are 2 iconic musicans and singers, who created backing vocals for a lot of songs (and outtakes as well) on Invincible album.

You can hear La Shawn Daniels vocals in Unbreakable, Heartbreaker, Get Your Weight Off Of Me and Monster.

Dr. Freeze performed vocals in Break Of Dawn, Blue Gangsta, A Place With No Name and Heaven Can Wait.

Which one do you prefet more?

Neither. Get off my MJ album - last thing on Earth Michael needed was crappy background singers. Boy could sing every harmony all by himself. The background singers are one of the reasons Invincible is subpar, imo.

MJ's songs do sound 10 times better when he layers his own vocals or harmonises with himself.

Imagine "Leave Me Alone" or "Tabloid Junkie" with session vocalists. The backing vocals are what gives "Blood on the Dance Floor" such an amazingly full perfect chorus.
Right?!? It's one of the reasons he was above and beyond better than anyone else. Yes, he would use choirs at times or bring in a female singer to work with but mostly you got full, complete MJ on Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, and BOTDF. Invincible sounds like such an average R&B album that anyone could have released - Justin Timberlake, Usher, some rando.

He couldn't. Lupus has been destroying his mouth and his voice during this period of time. It was too hard for Michael to finish these songs. Still MJ did a great job and recorded brilliant chorus for Unbreakable, Invincible, You Rock My World and The Lost Children songs!

I agree with the comments above, neither basically
I like hearing Michael Jackson bgvs on my Michael Jackson song tbh
I guess, it was a decision Michael made. He wanted this album sound like a big collaboration between him and other musicians. Probably this was the message MJ wanted to send with Invincible - he is not alone, he has a crew, that's why he is unstoppable, that's why he is Unbreakable!

You just pull shit out your ass, don't you? 😂

here we go:
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You seriously did not quote your own post as an actual source stating Michael Jackson couldn't sing the background vocals on Invincible because of lupus. That's absolutely hysterical!

In my research I quoted doctors speech, that Michael had lupus! Which led to nosejobs. Nosejobs probably led to upper lip problem, which led to his speaking troubles

Hugely disrespectful and unnecessary to call Freeze and the late, great LaShawn Daniels “crappy background singers.” I also prefer when MJ handled all lead and background vocals himself, but it’s insane to diminish Freeze and LaShawn’s talents like that and to blame their vocals on Invincible not being up to par.

To answer the OP, though, I personally prefer Freeze. LaShawn was very clearly trying to channel MJ when recording, which makes sense for demos and whatnot, but I always hate hearing impersonations like that. His natural voice is stunning. (Check out some of his solo stuff on YouTube, he’s an excellent singer.) Freeze sounded very much like himself, which was a lot more palatable to listen to in my opinion.

I don't owe anyone "respect" 🙄

As far as it being "unnecessary", it's a message board. I can say whatever I want whether someone else finds it necessary or not 😂

Exactly! They are both great artists! LaShawn will never be forgotten! I will always be greateful to him for creating iconic chorus:

That girl I can take her!
Should have known, that she was a Heartbreaker!

This is probably his greatest songwriting! And absolutely brilliant!

I do agree with that though ^ they're both still awesome singers.
If I had to choose I'd say although I liked LaShawn's vocals, I think Freeze's voice is really cool and I especially love his performance on Blue Gangsta. His solo demos don't always really do it for me but his bgvs are always awesome.

That was not really a problem on the 'Invincible' album.

At least, these background vocals came from actual singers.

Unlike, for example, the 'BAD' album where Bruce Swedien (a record engineer) lends his voice to a certain section of the 'Smooth Criminal' song, or the 'Dangerous' album where Bill Bottrell (a record producer) sings the rap section of the 'Black Or White' song.
Invincible sounds like such an average R&B album that anyone could have released - Justin Timberlake, Usher, some rando.
Despite its weaknesses, the 'Invincible' album still sounds better than any of the albums released by Justin Timberlake, Usher, or by any other random artist.

I will take Smooth Criminal and Black or White over any song on Invincible any day of the week.

Invincible album was a failure by MJ standarts, but in worldwide music business standarts - it was a total success!

Madona's album , released during this period, with tour and excellent promotion sold 5 million copies and considered as success.
MJ album with no tour and with 1/4 of promotion sold 13 million copies! And considered a failure

Justin Timberlake, Usher, some rando.
Keep in mind, that MJ weakest song - 2000 Watts - still considered better than any of Justine Timberlake songs. Because of Michael's touch.
In MJ standarts it's awful, in music worldwide standarts - masterpiece

It was the medication and the associated lethargy that made MJ not show up at the sessions or leave early, thus the need for the producers to supply their own BG vocals.

Could a clever fan use AI to remove those backing vocals from the songs where they’re combined with MJ’s?

Reducing them, ESPECIALLY LaShawn, to crappy background singers is definitely a choice.

Look up LaShawns credits.

Dr Freeze probably blends better with Michael's voice I'd say, perhaps because Mike's vocals were so good on the Freeze tracks it's sounds better

Nothing comes close to Michael's own backgrounds though, Liberian Girl, Stranger In Moscow, Tabloid Junkie, just to name a few. It's such an important part of the tapestry that makes up Michael's songs
