"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

I mean yeah, the article has the usual tone that most articles in the media have about MJ. I don't really see branca being misrepresented in there, though. Just talks about how stressed he is about the movie and that he acted arrogant and made some weird inappropriate points and jokes. Not surprising and not something that strikes me out of character.

Tf he stressed for? The biopic is "Michael" not "John-The manager that stole his legacy"

I do wonder about this quote from Branca:

'So that people know you can't intimidate the Jackson estate, you can't intimidate Branca.” We don't lose, and we won't settle, and you can't intimidate us.'

Doesn't this suggest they also didn't 'settle' anything with the Cascio's..?

Probably means settle ongoing lawsuits. With the Cascios they prevented one by buying the "life rights"

I'm not really sure how image sharing works. I think I created a gallery of screenshots.
Thanks alot for sharing this. It's am interesting read nonetheless!
But yeah. Even the choice of words shows that the information outside the interview is just copy pasted from old stuff. "deeply troubled" and so on. It just fits better into their storyline that way. It always has to be "the success and its shadows" even when those shadows are lies. Seems like the more fans like him, the harsher the press gets.
I oviously liked "if they don't step back we will give their personal phone numbers to all mj fans in the world" 😅

It will obviusly focus on the pre off the wall and mostly the Thriller era. Maybe some flashbacks to the J5 era, but I see it beginning during THE WIZ and going through when the Thriller era came to a finish.

They want to tell THE GOOD MICHAEL story. They're not gonna tackle the allegations, too sensitive, and frankly, NO ONE really knows how Michael felt during those years to create an insightful recreation of that moment.
I originally expected a non-allegation script. I was wrong about that — but I wasn’t wrong about the direction the movie could potentially take.

We already knew the Bad era would haven been mostly overlooked, and the plan was for it to end before the HIStory era at most.
Now, I feel it’s heading in the direction I thought from the start.

Do you guys think that if it’s true that the biopic will only go until the late 80’s they will still use 90’s and onwards songs? Or will they hold on to them for a sequel.
Good question, it wouldn’t make much sense to use the 90’s songs but at the same time we would miss out on some brilliant tracks.

I still can’t see there being a second movie but they could be saved for it.

Can’t believe we’ve only had one official pic and it was from Jaafar dressed up during the Dangeorus tour - which is prob now not possible if it stops late 80s

Just think, we will miss out on the famous toaster entrance 😩 unless they actually used it for the BAD tour intro - it’s Hollywood after all.
.

I've been away from this discussion for several months, so if anyone could get me up to speed I'd appreciate it. Has there been any firm announcement regarding the biopic only being a single film now, and not covering his entire life? I really hope that's not true, because he still accomplished so much in his later years, fighting so much evil along the way. People need to be shown that, the real value of both vulnerability and perseverance.

What I believe we know for certain is that it will be split into two parts. The first one ending I think in late 80s early 90s? But I can’t remeber when. Anyways, if and only if the first one is successful will they do a second half, if it ain’t then the stuff already recorded is gonna be thrown in the vault. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong

Well in my opinion, it's kinda stupid to film the whole thing at once and raise a ton of hype, only to shelve it if you don't like the numbers in the first week.

Hopefully. The guy who posted about it on Twitter is a good source to my knowledge.
Seems very legit, someone from biopic subreddit: “For those unaware, the user who posted this on X (Twitter) is the president of the MJ fan club in China and has been extremely reliable in the past. Also, with the Lionsgate earnings call tomorrow, this is looking VERY likely!”

Another seemingly reputable leaker @BeyondReporter also confirmed:

Think this is happening folks!

so this is It guys. it's happening, and we are about to jump on another big rollercoster and on a hell of a journey. good luck to Jaafar Jackson for this once in a lifetime task to portray his uncle on the big screen, I hope that all his hard work will be recognized and appreciated.

and to Michael, I hope that your story will be told in the most honest, respectful, effective way.

Happy biopic era!

AND - if MKGENIE says the trailer comes I believe it 100 %.

All the way back to the release of This Is It MKGENIE was the first to have setlist, insigt info etc. etc. and on many many occasions he has proven to be a reliable source and he is careful to only share facts. - And if it is a rumour he makes it very very clear it is a rumour and not something people should take as a fact. So I believe the trailer comes today. Can't wait.
