"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

Colman Domingo to Play Joe Jackson in “Michael” biopic

Known for his roles on stage and screen, Domingo has received various accolades including a Primetime Emmy Award and nominations for two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award.

Fans might recognise him form “Candyman” (2021), “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” (2023) or “The Color Purple” (2023).

“I’m excited to be a part of a film that explores both the complicated soul of the legendary Michael Jackson as well as his impact on music and culture as a global icon. Not only am I fortunate to have a rich, complex and flawed character to portray in Joe Jackson, but I also have a front row seat for Jaafar’s incredible transformation. After seeing him in rehearsal, my mind was blown. There is something divine about the way that Jaafar is channeling his late uncle. His talent and embodiment of Michael’s essence is simply on another level.”

Director Antoine Fuqua added:

“Colman has such incredible range – he puts in the work to deeply inhabit his characters and understand their true essence and motivation. I’m grateful to be working with an actor with his passion and ability to portray the many sides of Joe Jackson: a husband, a father and a manager.”

Producer Graham King said:

“Few actors present themselves with Colman’s screen presence and force of will. We’re so fortunate to have an actor with his undeniable talent portraying Joe Jackson on screen. We couldn’t be more excited to have him join us on this journey.”

This is a thread made for speculation and discussion about the biopic made on a discussion forum. If you don't want to read that then don't open the thread would be my recommendation. (y)

Coming in to call people's opinions and thoughts worthless adds less than people posting their ideas or thoughts. (the whole point of the thread).
This thread is for updates on the film. The discussion and speculation are part of that.

I'll agree on that 2nd part.

If your speculation can easily be debunked by reading what the people making the biopic have said, then yes it is worthless.
This is a discussion forum. Feel free to visit a news website with the comments turned off if that's what you'd prefer.

Curious if Jaafar will casually drop tidbits about hanging with Michael, Paris, Prince and Bigi in future interviews. Remember the stun gun fuss in 2010? Media and fandom were obsessed with it, lmao

I said the 2007 Ebony Photoshoot and I'm sticking with that. That was the last professional high note MJ had, that and Thriller 25.

And His quote about binding his soul to his work is the perfect closer quote. Right along with Best Of Joy.

Surely his last professional high during his lifetime was selling out fifty nights at the O2 In London.
And that was, fortunately, just before his death. So, MJ died very much ‘on top’ - no one else at that time of his passing could have come close to selling out fifty nights at the O2.

100% this.

To think he still managed to sell out 50 shows plus there was enough demand for another 50 on top of the awful controversies surrounding his life is incredible.

They are shooting at Hayvenhurst first, this was confirmed when Taj and Prince cancelled the Thriller event last year however, they will certainly be filming at Neverland also.
So neverland for sure
?

When you put it like that yeah. Unfortunately behind the scenes stuff from AEG makes it all bittersweet.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's cast as Branca 🤣
It is unknown which lawyer Miles is eyeing the possibility of playing - in particular whether he will portray Howard Weitzman, Mark Geragos or Thomas Mesereau.

These are attorneys, Branca is a lawyer.

He might not even be playing any of them hence my Branca comment, it was just a joke that he would pick a good looking dude to play him.

The terminology of attorney isn't really used here in the UK btw.

I thought attorney and lawyer were [pretty much the same thing

Lawyer is a general term for someone trained in law.

^^^ he's just being an arse for the sake of it because I mentioned Branca. These tabloids don't know who he is playing, could just be a generic character for all we know.

true

God help me if Branca has a massive part in Michael's biopic 😅

Didn't Branca and Mike part ways in the late 80's/early 90's? Then he came back in mid 2009?

This could be the biggest hint we've had about the timeline yet

They are slightly different, but it's pretty much the case Branca is a glorified agent, where someone like Weitzman or Meserau actually represented MJs case in court.

But of course Brancas gonna be in the film, he was literally there for half of MJ's biggest achievements.
