"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

Whilst shamefully looking on reddit, I seen the below, please take it with a massive pinch of salt, although I wouldn't expect it to be too far from the truth (we all know the story)

I work in the industry and I have connections to Graham King's production company. I've read multiple drafts of the script. The most recent one only covered the Jordie Chandler case, but they lean HEAVILY into showing all the ways in which his father was an amoral grifter exploiting his son. Which, to be fair, he absolutely was -- it just doesn't change the facts of the case such as the vitiligo drawing Jordie did of MJ's dick. (To the crazy MJ fan who pops up in the comments: Hello.)

It's a pretty specious area of an otherwise garden variety biopic script. That said, I'll give it kudos that they do in fact show him spending intimate time with children and several people around him expressing concern 'cause... you know.

Oh, and another hilarious thing, John Branca, MJ's lawyer and executor, is a producer on the film and the script makes sure to show him as the COOLEST motherfucker ever. I told my contact that they might as well have him wear a leather jacket and bang a jukebox to get it started.

When I read the casting of Miles Teller, I thought 'this movie's gonna be bad but I'm really excited to watch Teller cook in this vanity role.'

I'm pretty sure this biopic's script is under heavy lock and key. We still don't even know who all is being casted.

This reddittor is just a guilter troll looking for attention.

Can we please stop posting unconfirmed things in fan spaces. I beg of you, there is enough lies and BS from guilters and haters floating around. Fan spaces should be safe spaces.

Weird that some are acting like pessimism around this film hasn't always been a thing. Who complained about the photo?

It has. But from everything I am seeing and hearing, from directors, to casting, to photos, my optimism is only growing. I am seeing a lot of attention to detail here. I think fans complain about literally everything. They could bring Michael Jackson back to life and unleash him onto the world for another 5 albums and there's be a problem.

Don't be so rigid. Of course they can. It would be good to have the facts, but I'm pretty sure the settlement means they can't talk about the 93 case much anyway, so they might as well make a solid trajectory for the arc.

Someone on twitter made a good point that they wouldn't talk about the 93 unless they knew for a fact that Chandler won't take legal action.

And the director already said they will be discussing the false allegations so.......... something to think about.

graham king is convinced Michael is innocent by the way.

I don't think anyone would complain if he just "popped up". Seems it's gonna be a lot more than that, though, when you consider the casting. We'll have to wait and see, of course.
I can see that from the casting, but it wouldn’t be the first time they scored a top-level name for what basically amounts to a cameo in a biopic. Of course we’ll have to wait and see. I just don’t see the point in being critical of his appearance. As I said, he was a major player in the business side of things, especially in the time period they seem to be focusing on.

We don't have a straight answer on if Branca was in MJs pocket or Sonys pocket. Regardless of how you feel about it, he has NEVER (afaik) said a bad word about MJ, in public or private. Not even John McClain has that pure distinction.

Maybe they can announce some other crazy acting picks, like a Janet, Jermaine, Quincy, Bruce, Chris Tucker, etc?
They should cast Chris Tucker as Chris Tucker!

What did John McClain say about him?

Excerpt from My Friend Michael by Frank Cascio

The summer of 2001 found us on the set for the You Rock My World video, when John McClain, a long term adviser to the Jacksons, called me. He had met with the director, he said, and reported, “They want to use make up to darken Michael’s skin for the video. They also want to fill in his nose with putty.” He wanted me to suggest these cosmetic effects to Michael. He clearly didn’t know Michael at all.

I was stunned. And I refused.

“John, I cannot have this conversation with Michael. There’s no way he’ll ever go for anything like this. If you need to, go ahead. But I’m not doing it.” I didn’t want to get involved.

A little while later I was back in my hotel room when the phone rang. It was Karen Faye, Michael’s makeup artist, calling from Michael’s room. She was supposed to be getting him ready for the video shoot, but he had locked himself in the bathroom and she had no idea why. She asked me to come to the room immediately.

When I arrived, I heard Michael inside the bathroom, freaking out and throwing stuff around. Clearly John McClain had talked to him about the proposed changes to his skin and nose, and he was extremely pissed of. I tried to get his attention, but the chaos inside the bathroom went on. Finally I heard him bang something with such force that I got worried. I started trying to break down the door.

At last, Michael let me in. He was sitting on the floor. He’d been in the middle of having his hair cut when he’d heard the news, so his hair was half long, half short. He was holding his hands over his face, sobbing.

“Can you believe it?” he said. “They think I’m ugly? They want to put putty on my nose? What the fu** is wrong with them? I don’t tell them how they should look. Fu** them.” Talking through his tears, he kept saying, “They think I’m a freak, they think I’m a freak, they think I’m a freak.”

Seeing him crouched on the floor, sobbing and with his hair half cut, was devastating, to say the very least. This was the second time in recent days that I’d seen him break down. Although for years, the media had been mocking and attacking his appearance, Michael didn’t always react so strongly to what people said about him. It depended on the day. Sometimes he didn’t care what people though. He was a strong guy. Then there were times when enough was enough, and he would break down. The fact that his supposed allies were criticizing his appearance at a time when he was in such a fragile state was too much for him to bear.

This wasn’t the Michael Jackson that existed for the rest of the world. This wasn’t Michael Jackson the icon. This was Michael Jackson at his most vulnerable, his most human, being pushed to the brink. While it had become a habit for me to force him to face painful truths, this time there was no truth at stake. There is no objective right or wrong to a person’s appearance. Michael had been ignoring headlines about his appearance for years, so my advice to him now was simply not to listen.

“We can walk away from this,” I said. “They need you, you don’t need them.”

I canceled that day’s shoot and told everyone involved that we would start fresh the next day. Michael and I returned to our rooms and stayed in for the remainder of the day. Before leaving, I spoke to John McClain and the director of the video, Paul Hunter.

“John,” I said. “I can’t believe you said what you said to Michael. We’re going to finish this project, but there will be no more conversations regarding Michael’s appearance in the video. If that’s a problem, we’ll walk off the set for good and deal with the consequences.”

Now you don't have to believe this, I don't see the watertight logic in this that maybe I had before. But, again, there's no stories like this about Branca saying this about or to Michael. No, mundane antagonisms like this. Maybe Brancas a sychophant liar but he's not a critic.

This is an intersting point, in the settlement it stated that both parties couldnt talk about the case, but I dont know if that is still valid with the estate.

I remember hearing bout this shit and i was extremely pissed off i just couldnt belive they did that to him. Given everything the media had said bout his appearance you would think the team wouldve been more caring bout his looks and how michael wouldve felt

The lyrics are a bit generic but the hook is very catchy, feels very Michael. Not a fan of the title, but I'd like to hear an album of Jaafar's he's got a good voice
Wow. That fucker really sounds like Michael. I'm shocked. Wonder what Jermaine thinks about that. ;) Kinda ironic.

I feel like all of this is gonna bite him in the ass later on, it's already hard as a member of the Jackson family to get out of Michael's shadow but now that he's cast to play Michael in the biopic and just now released a song with a title that's basically him saying he's the "new Michael Jackson" will make it pretty hard for him to create his own image. It's the only reason why I think he shouldn't have taken the role.

Not a bad song btw, but I think it'll be hard for Jaafar to make his own name if he keeps branding himself along with MJ like that.

We don't even know if Jaafar is gonna do a good job tbh. Ok that he's got the singing and dancing spot on but we don't know how he'll do as an actor since he had no prior experience. I guess we're gonna have to wait and see first.

He might have a acting coach with him on set
