Michael's incredible talent was evident even in his youth. His Motown songs are full of soul, and his cover versions are often better than the originals sung by adults. This raises the following question:
Did MJ have a better voice when he was younger?

MJ obviously had a higher range as a child that he could not access as an adult. There was something magical about MJs younger voice, maybe it was better, but his voice was more versatile as an adult, what he lacked in high notes he made up for through sheer versatility, so I think one cancels out the other.

Yes he did.

Magical is a good word to use.

Shouldn't have offered a "both" option.

ok. yes his voice was structurally better. slow destruction/deterioration across the years, but we had never off-key and always sounded awesome. But in terms of power and unscratchiness, the smaller he was, the better. he maxed out around off the wall, and then it started going downhill. BUT HE ALWAYS SOUNDED INCREDIBLE!!!!

Michael was at his peak as a live singer from the late 60s to the early 80s.

His live vocals declined as he got older. Starting from the Bad era, he started to sing in a more gritty and aggressive manner, and that didn't always translate well to live vocals. Not to mention, the constant wear and tear of performing from a very young age, and the various health issues that Michael had, he was no longer a great live singer by the time the 90s rolled on, although he still had moments where he sounded great, even in his final years.
