Would the Invincible album have been more successful if it was released in the year 2000?

I know this sounds random but I was thinking: the songs of the Invincible album had futuristic, robotic vibes in general (Invincible, Threatened, 2000 Watts). The music climate of the year 2000 was more electronic-dance focused than 2001, which was more rap and hip-hop onwards.

Since Michael Jacksons was working on the Invincible album from the late 1990s, would the album sold more successfully if it was released in the year 2000 due to its' electronic sound? The 90s did have a strong electronic music scene, particularly with Prodigy and DJ acts like Faithless and Gigi D'Agostino.

I think it would have been epic if a Michael Jackson album was released in the first year of the second millennium - amidst other electronic-themed music like Backstreet Boys "Millennium" album and Britney Spears' music video "Oops! I Did It Again" and Victoria Beckham's song/ music video "Out Of Your Mind".

What do you think?

Note that Rodney Jerkins and his team started working on the electronic/robotic songs of the 'Invincible' album in 2000.

This means that the 'Invincible' album with these songs could not have been released in 2000.

But even if the album was released with these electronic/robotic songs in 2000, it would not have sold more successfully due to the fact that in 2000 there was generally an oversaturation with such an electronic sound in the music scene.

The first release date we were given was 9 Nov 1999. If they'd stuck to that or soon after it's likely we would not have had many of the great songs that eventually landed on the album.

I'm sorry, but no. I am an honest person. 'INVINCIBLE' is not that great of an album... 6.5/10 or so. Maximum 7.
Because many of the songs have similar backing tracks, 'Invincible', 'Unbreakable', 'Heartbreaker'—they have completely identical backgrounds. Is that the only problem? 'Privacy' and '2000 Watts' are songs that continue in exactly the same way... Some Michael fans get upset and angry when I say this. But it's the truth. Yes, if the album had been released by artist X instead of Michael, it would have been amazing. But it's well below Michael's potential.

I think what people tend to have a problem with is not your opinion, but the sheer arrogance of claiming your subjective opinion as objective fact.

You are right that getting angry is the wrong response. The only reasonable response is to laugh in your face.

You've got to accept the fact that there are people who genuinely love Privacy and 2000 watts. It's a different type of music, so it might not be for everyone, but I love that type of music, so Privacy and 2000 watts are actually among my favorites.

@TurkishFan means all these songs sound very similar, and this becomes a boring experience for the listener of that album.

Even many Michael Jackson fans do not like this, for example they feel that the first three songs (of that album) sound like one very long song.

I would have to disagree, I don't think Privacy and 2000 watts sound alike or that they sound similar to any other song on the album. There are other songs on the album that do sound similar, but not those two.

It would have done much better with the pre Rodney songs, or the songs that didn't make the album. Especially with the whole Artist of the century/Millennium narrative to pump up promotions.

He anyways had limited audience in the US, and songs like 'Heaven can wait, break of Dawn, Butterflies' was not something that was gonna work with the European and Asian fans.

I disagree. Are you saying R&B doesn't work in those countries? Any of those songs would've done better than "Cry".
