The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

I think we can just assume Teddy is talking out of his ass at this point lol.
I cannot stand Teddy bro lies for no reason but to give him the benefit of the doubt, Joy is a released song, just without MJ's lead vocal obviously. So there really is no unused stuff like he said (unless there's unreleased Teddy stuff we dk about)

But Joy is a song he worked on with Michael and his version is unreleased right? So either he's forgetting the song altogether or Michael has no lead vocals besides the chorus

If there is any unused stuff, those would be all the instrumental grooves Teddy submitted to Michael that weren’t developed into songs… He did say he played 15-20 grooves to Michael, and some were bound not to be used anyway.

What if he's mixing it up with Michael's Joy (Best of Joy)? Just a thought.
Very uncertain. The 1991 list had both "Best Of Joy" and "Joy," plus Jean-Marie was working on several Teddy originals at Larrabee so it'd be hard for him to confuse the Teddy-produced Joy with a song that was likely worked on exclusively at Record One (and the period where Teddy worked there came before Jean-Marie joined him after his team moved to Larrabee North).

The latter assumption wouldn't really line up with what Tammy Lucas said about "Joy," where she describes Michael singing the verses in a very MJ-esque way.

Off topic but I was reading some of Teddy's new book and he mentions he was supposed to be on the Bad album. Teddy mentioned this in earlier interviews as well and when Barnes and Sundberg saw the interview, this is what they said. This was about 7 or 8 years ago

THIS CLAIM IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE!!! SO DISRESPECTFUL!!!. There really is not much to elaborate on or about. Teddy Riley was not involved in any way at that time. Everyone who was involved at that time will certainly confirm what I’m saying. I’m just disappointed in this behavior. - John Barnes

On a slightly more serious note, I don't ever recall Mr. Riley's name mentioned prior to the Dangerous project. Doesn't mean they didn't know each other, but the Bad team was clearly established. And yes, the story rings remarkably similar to Bill Bottrell's, which is factual. - Brad Sundberg
Wait did his autobiography finally come out after years of being in the limbo?

Not sure his numbers are correct but Teddy Riley says there is no unreleased tracks of him & MJ in the vault (starts after 2:15):

At 12:14, he claims to have used the MPC2000XL to produce Remember The Time, but unless he’s a time traveler, how is that possible? That sampler was released in 1999; Remember The Time was produced in 1991. He’s either lying for no good reason or he has poor memory.

Yeah his version with his lead (if it exists) is unreleased obviously. My point was the song did come out just not with the lead vocal, so his claim of there being nothing left that went unused seems to be accurate

its probably just his memory for that. thatd be a really weird thing to lie about. 5g probably scrambled his hippocampus

speaking of scrambled brains, mines fried from arguing with flat earthers, so someone leak something so i can cleanse
True intellectuals know the world is neither flat nor a sphere but rather one big melting pot of life

Yeah that's what i'm putting my money on being left from Teddy. Verdicts, Bombay Nights, Dream Girl type stuff (but likely better)

And in the Kingvention interview, he seems to be very aware that "Joy" is the Blackstreet song.

What the hell has been going on with him? It like that he’s become a massive pathological liar ever since Michael’s passing lol.
No people just gave him more attention. He might’ve always been dumb and dishonest for all we know, but he helped make Remember The Time.

Bill made updated mixes for it in 2010 and 2014 for the estate, but it didn't make the cut. It just has some things moved around, no new overdubs afaik
It’s weird because it’s so perfect as is and yet that’s its main flaw. Such a strange little song, honestly the strangest outtake imo. I love it tho.

If You Don’t Love Me… I’ve never liked this song, but I really can’t say why 🤷
Like Cheater, it’s missing something that would make it really good or great… but I like
Cheater much more though.
But I’m sure that if it were mixed differently (different instruments perhaps), the chances
of me liking If You Don’t Love Me would be higher.
All this = imo 😊

Yea, I'd kill for Bill to release his 2 mixes of the song, maybe it fixes whatever makes it underwhelming (still a great song)

Cheater is completely finished though lol. I suggest raising the pitch by 0.3 semitones and BPM by 1, really makes a difference. Same for IYLDM

It's basically finished, except a final mixing.

The track would have worked well, had it been released as a standalone non-album single in-between album projects.
