Universal Music Japan has announced a major reissue campaign celebrating the early career of Michael Jackson and Jackson 5. To commemorate the upcoming biopic Michael and the 60th anniversary of the Jackson 5’s debut, the label will release a new compilation alongside eight classic Motown-era albums on May 20, 2026.
At the center of the campaign is a brand-new Japanese compilation titled “Michael Jackson & Jackson 5 – Greatest Hits.” The set traces Michael Jackson’s rise from the young lead singer of the Jackson 5 to his emergence as a solo artist during his years at Motown.
The compilation will be available in two formats. The deluxe edition will come as a limited two-CD set housed in a 7-inch paper jacket and pressed on high-quality SHM-CD. It will include 25 studio tracks spanning Jackson 5 classics and early solo hits such as “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” “I’ll Be There,” “Rockin’ Robin,” “Ben,” “Get It Together,” and “Dancing Machine.”
The second disc of the deluxe set features rare live recordings, offering performances of songs including “Who’s Lovin’ You,” “Go Back to Indiana,” “Never Can Say Goodbye,” and “Got to Be There.”

On the same day, Universal Music Japan will also reissue eight original albums from the Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson’s Motown catalog on SHM-CD, each including lyrics and Japanese translations.

The release of the King of Pop and Michael Jackson's biopic "Michael" has been announced, and to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the start of Jackson 5's activities, Michael debuted as the lead vocalist of the Jackson 5 hits and the solo hits of the Motown era when he established himself as a solo artist. Michael Jackson & Jackson 5 -Greatest Hits-" will be released on Wednesday, May 20th. It will be a Japanese original edition, and the deluxe edition will be released in a 7-inch size paper jacket.
On the same day, it was decided to reissue the CD of all eight works by Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson during the Motown era, and the LP version was also decided on June 10 (Wednesday) the following month. All LPs will be color vinyl editions that match their respective colors, and will be limited to the complete production of Japanese presses, so reservations are recommended.

Anyway, that compilation looks like a really good tracklist. I wonder where the live songs come from.
 
Will any of you guys be buying these imports? I want to but the site I'm referring to when with mixed with shipping and taxes costs $84 for a vinyl! Sucks because I'm desperate to get the Motown albums on vinyl, and the CDs cost $57 in the same situation. We'll see what happens, but that's almost the price I spent getting The Ultimate Collection!

I do already have the Hello World collection so the CDs themselves might seem like a waste of a purchase, but I have this weird craving for having them in my collection since the standalone albums have been so expensive to find in mint new condition, especially Music & Me and Forever, Michael.

Vinyls should more so be my target purchase but saving up $100 to purchase each one doesn't seem like the smartest decision when $100 can go towards much more useful things. We'll see what happens, On the other hand, I'd hate for such an opportunity to finally get a hold of these standalone albums to go to waste. I'm already trying to save up to get 3 tickets to see the biopic with friends!

I've preordered the deluxe greatest-hits CD. Still debating the vinyls as I already have regular releases/reissues.
I'd like to see pics of the coloured vinyls first.

For me, vinyl wouldn't be worth it if it was the same price as the CD. But it's definitely not worth it with the price gouging they are trying to get away with.

It's an inferior product with worse sound, it's less practical, not portable, it wears out, and it costs more for both the disc and the shipping. Vinyl is only worth it if you're a greedy executive at a record company.

The J5 albums can be picked up on CD for like $5 anywhere. Granted, the solo albums are a bit harder to find, but you still shouldn't be paying much more than $10-20.

there would be quadraphonic mixes and restored live tracks from Osaka.

The information is unclear about what tracks exactly are involved though.
(I mean the structure of the article could suggest that quadraphonic mixes and Osaka tracks are about the second disc (bonus) of the Greatest Hits...
but then at the same level, next bullet point, it talks about 180g vinyl reissues off other album(s)/box?.)
