A respectful question about the public and media's reaction to his skin color change in the 80s. Meant for experts or people who were around that time

Did people not notice the changes in his skin color until Bad hit?

Caption: In this picture, you can see that he is as light as the Bad era. Also, his skintone was inconsistent time to time - hinting at him trying to find the right shade to hide his vitiligo.

Did no one talk about how light he was after watching Captain EO? And I know it wasn't shown outside of Disneyland.

Caption: You can see that even his statue looks light and not chocolate brown. People must have been aware, but surprisingly no one spoke up.

Caption: I wonder the same about toy manufacterers. Were they aware or simply confused? This one is from 1983 - brown like his natural skin.

Caption: This one's (which is light) from 1984 - indicated by the same apparel worn by Applehead himself in 84 Grammys.
