I hope this is the right place to vent my frustrations.
For Michael's birthday in Sydney, fans are organizing an MJ cruise. I invited my friends and asked them to invite family and friends. I explained all the details, told them the cost which is insanely cheap and that some of the money goes to charity. Told them that all alcohol is provided, there will be mj trivia etc and that mj will be played all night on the lower level of the ship but the upper level of the ship will have a dj not playing MJ. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned this because one of my friends has gathered up SEVENTEEN other friends who are all keen to go. They are even hiring limousines to get them to the cruise and they say it's for a good cause. My problem? She told me that NONE of them are MJ fans and they are really only going for the upper level of the boat. I can't help but be annoyed. I can't un-invite them, but I assumed only people who were into Michael Jackson would want to go to an, um, MICHAEL JACKSON cruise. I mean, shit, I wouldn't be going to a Lady Gaga cruise no matter how cheap the tickets. This has been orchestrated to celebrate my idol's birthday and there are only limited places that I'm sure genuine fans would love to have. The thought that *I* am the cause of the boat being riddled with people who probably couldn't give a rat's ass that he's died and probably believe half the rumors about him is really pissing me off. Should I just calm down? What should I do? I feel like lying and saying they have scrapped the upper level dj.
 
you have every right to feel angry - don't compare this post to all the other posts! you have the right to express how you feel, just as we all do!
I would be majorly pissed off too - it's a MJ event and it's for MJ fans and supporters...it doesn't seem fair at all that some MJ fans may miss out on this while non fans get to go...
did you organize the cruise? maybe you could say as it's a Michael Jackson cruise that places go to MJ fans first and then if there is any places left, non fans can come since there are limited places? or something like that

It's a difficult one. If I were in your shoes I think I would go back to your friend that has rounded up the 17 and tell a little white lie - that you got your facts wrong and the night will be totally devoted to MJ and his music and it is just for hardcore fans, that you are concerned that these 17 'friends' will not have a good time and you are concerned about that.

Unfortunately no I'm not organising it so I'm not in the position to say "You're not a fan you can't come", although I have said it to her in a subtle way. "It is going to be filled with fans all dressed up, even ones more obsessed than me, it's not a good idea unless you have some Mj love.. really". She laughed. At the end of the day the tickets are cheap and the alcohol is unlimited and that's all they care about. I could email the co-coordinator of the cruise I suppose, but I don't know if there's much she can do either. It's not like she can give an Mj test you have to pass before you can get tickets. lol

The cruise people have now posted up a website and it says the top level won't be dedicated MJ so I'm screwed! lol That was my last resort dammit!

That makes it sound like it's mj exclusive doesn't it? (even though I KNOW it's not on the top level of the ship as the coordinator said so on facebook) but they don't have to know that do they? if I send out this website would it fly if I said it sounds like they changed their mind about that other 'non mj' dj?

Plus how could the non-fans resist dancing to the MJ songs once they hear them? I bet the lower level will be where the party's at!
 
arghhhhh this is spiraling out of control.

I emailed my friend saying "it sounds like they scrapped that non-mj dj by the sounds of it *copy and paste dj information from website*. I think cause some of the fans were saying on facebook it's a waste of space cause they just want MJ music! Just letting you know as i dont want your friends to be misled or pissed off if they get there and its 100% mj. :)"

shit shit shit! Im like, uhh i just emailed her to confirm for you guys ill fwd you her response. So I emailed her for real, saying, in sum.. hi i have 17 ppl interested in coming. none of them are big on mj, just want to confirm one of the 2 djs won't be playing mj all night? Im crossing my fingers she's going to respond and say you're not welcome. **** off.

So i showed my friend what i emailed. She's like, can I STILL have her email please? so i had to give her the cruise coordinators email. I think shes suss that im trying to sway her and her 2352354634 guests from coming.

THEN to top it off she emails me back saying 'btw its not 17, there are TWENTY NINE of us'

I was so excited to go to this thing and now I really don't want to. She's ruining it for me. I don't want to be surrounded by ppl who DON'T LIKE Mj on the birthday after his death. I need to be around fans alone who understand why this gathering is so important. For fucks sake.
 
K the cruise coordinator didn't seem so phased that they weren't mj lovers so I feel better. Thanks for hearing me rant and moan guys. xox

P.S If i hear one of 'those' comments about mj on cruise night from a non-mj fan, they will be pushed overboard with a sparkly glove up their ass :)
 
dang! twenty-something non-MJ fans? Why go on an MJ cruise if you you're not a fan o_O

Lol. My first piece of advice would have been to tell a white lie like someone else suggested...but since that seems to not be working, I say just be honest with her. Tell her that you find it insensitive that she and TWENTY-SOMETHING people are going to an MJ crusie when they don't even appreciate his music. That's taking away tickets from people who are genuine fans. Tell her delicately that she's kinda raining on your parade.
