All I know is a concert on the 26th of November 1970 in New York got cancelled because of said threats.
How did Joe, Katherine Motown, Michael and the brothers handle this? Who made the threat? How serious was it? What was the aftermath?

These death threats were telephone threats.

The anonymous callers threatened to shoot members of the band, and in particular Michael Jackson.

They were very serious death threats, not just for the band but also for the people around the band (crew, technicians, fans, hotel staff, etc).

Father Joseph Jackson (who was with the band) became very alarmed.

These death threats also brought on financial loss for the band due to the show's cancellation.

But this was not the only time, because the band received on other instances death threats as well, when the brothers were on tour.

It is interesting that the majority of the death threats aimed at killing the band's lead singer Michael Jackson.
