Captain EO premiered on September 20, 1986, and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The film spawned two new songs: We Are Here to Change the World and Another Part of Me
Will Captain EO return in connection with the anniversary celebrations and the biopic? One can only hope. Because he's on a mission in the everlasting light that shines.
On November 13, 2015, Disney announced that Captain EO would close at Epcot on December 6, 2015, to make way for a "Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival".

Rare Captain EO behind the scenes:

Would be nice to have the orchestral score composed by James Horner.

It's on TUC, so no need actually.

Would have prefered to have the 1985/6 mix of APOM on TUC, too.
Given your username, it was like finally being able to breathe for the first time hearing "Hello good times" without Fuzball's voice :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, but I mean in the 80s.

In the UK, most singles from Bad got to number 2,3,4. They needed something a bit extra to get them to #1. Most of them just had instrumental versions, which not everybody likes. But a new song is a nice bonus and acts as a purchase incentive.

In particular, APOM itself barely made top 10 anywhere in the world.

It's a shame We Are Here to Change the World wasn't released as a B-side on any single.

In the '80s,' We Are Here To Change The World' was a Disney asset, meaning that Disney had exclusive copyrights on that song.

So, Michael Jackson could not take it so as to use it to his own commercial advantage (for example, as a B-side on any of his singles during that period).

Since Moonwalker and This Is It are being re-released this year, why not finally release Captain EO on DVD and Blu-ray?
Disney has now bought Lucasfilm and all the Star Wars franchise so it is just normal to think: “Hey Disney! Come on! Where is the DVD/Blu Ray???”
Ok, not that simple I know! Back then, the rights were divided between Lucasfilm, Walt Disney Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures and Michael Jackson!
Today, Disney owns obviously Walt Disney Pictures but also Buena Vista Pictures and Lucasfilm!
So why not releasing this amazing short film on DVD and Blu Ray?
Disney and the Michael Jackson Estate would need to talk about this! We already know that Disney is keen to do Captain EO’s products like announced in 2016 with the Captain EO infinity!
So let’s help them to make a decision and see how many of you are willing to buy Captain EO on DVD/Blu Ray?

Would be a perfect time for Disney to bring it back for a limited run like they did years ago! Especially now that they found the original 70mm distribution reels

re-releasing it for what? There's nothing they can add that we haven't seen
There's a lot they could add, as there's a lot of unreleased footage from the rehearsals. As a fan who wants to see everything I'd be interested in that. However, I'd much rather see them focus on a release that shows Michael in his prime (e.g. Victory Tour or Bad Tour film footage).
