Do you ever wish Michael had toured on different years?

I really like how Michael moved in the Motown 25 performance in 1983. Billie Jean is lip-synced but I prefer his dance moves in that compared to Victory Tour. Would have been interesting if the tour had happened soon after that.

Also when watching the 1995 MTV Awards performance I keep thinking how HIStory Tour would have looked that year. I really like all the Billie Jean moves. He is so smooth.

I never realized how differently he moved at the vma's 95 vs history tour in 96.🤔

Yes, in hindsight I wish he did the Victory Tour before the Pepsi accident. Let's say summer 1983.
There was something about that early 80's energy that changed. He had it during the Triumph Tour and he had it at the Budweiser Superfest. He had that smooth fluidity in his voice and moves that changed to become more of a gritty style during the mid-80's (Mostly due to becoming a full developed adult and voice coaches).

And yes, a 1995 History Tour would be quite different. A Michael with shorter hair, less burnt-out voice from studio sessions. Fun scenarios to speculate about, absolutely.

I feel like he would have sang live a lot more. I have wondered if the first Brunei 1996 show was the reason he wanted to sing less. Maybe he watched the tape and wasn't satisfied.

Late 1984/85 for a short solo tour like Dileo has said during an interview for the Victory tour, when MIcheal was in his prime, during Bad he have lost something, his dances moves were no more natural, imo that this moment he have changed his style, the way he sang.

Late 1983 would have been awesome, just after the Thriller music video, 1983 in general would have been cool.

If the Bad tour was done in 1986 then MJ might've sounded the same at the start and end of the tour which would've made it much better. Then again he might've just ended up catching a severe cold anyway which would've led to the same outcome we have now.

If Victory was done in 1983 I'd be curious if WBSS & Beat It would've been done in higher keys but the dancing certainly wouldn't have been as developed as 1984 e.g. moonwalk and circle glide.

1999 tour would've been interesting to see how much his dancing developed especially if it would've meant no bridge collapse.

An album and tour in 1985 would've been cool. Still release Bad in 1987 but begin that tour in mid 88

In what way does he move different? I don't see it? I'm intrigued :)
I think there is a visible difference. I think he seems more smooth and relaxed in 1995. Its hard to describe and of course the new move during Billie Jean makes it different too. Just like how his dancing changed in just two years between HIStory Tour and MJ & Friends 1999 shows. :)

Do you think its because he was thinner? You'd think that during the HIStory tour he would be smoother as he was doing every night.

During MJ & Friends I thought he executed moves much slower compared to MSG 2001. Unless it's just me lol

I wish the Invincible album came out in 1999 like what was originally planned and he did a tour for that. He looked like he was in great shape in 1999

Not sure why. He was very smooth during HIStory Tour too. I prefer the 1996 leg of that tour.

That’s not how that works. It’s not about the one year difference. Michael’s voice did not suddenly change between 1986 and 1987. What truly affects a singer’s sound is the physical demand of touring like the number of shows, the travel, fatigue, and any illnesses along the way.

That is what made Michael’s voice different by the end of the Bad Tour, vocal strain. That would have happened regardless of whether the tour began in 1986 or 1987. Starting a year earlier wouldn’t have magically kept his voice sounding “fresh” by the final shows.

The same logic applies here. His voice didn’t fundamentally change between 1983 and 1984.
If he chose to perform in a slightly lower key in 84, he would have done the same in 83.

For a fully grown adult, the voice doesn’t shift that dramatically in a single year to the point of requiring key changes, unless we are talking about constant singing on tour, which leads to strain over time.

The main thing from starting earlier is he might've avoided all those illnesses he got on the tour and therefore sounded great for the whole tour.

Also there is a chance that starting a year earlier would've meant his voice would've been as high aa the previous year. Not saying it's guaranteed but there's a chance. For example his voice in 1981 was deeper than the previous 2 years.

I wish the History Tour started in 1995 and finished in 1996. Had that been the case, I think the History Tour would have been quite similar to the Dangerous Tour, in terms of live vocals. We would have got an even split of live signing and lip-syncing.

I cant hear any changes in his voice from beginning to end of any of his tours?

The most prominent, in my opinion, is the Bad tour. Compare the following two shows:

The first video is the opening night show, the second is the closing show. In the first video, he sounds absolutely incredible—clean, powerful, almost effortless. In the second, he sounds strained and tired. Still great, but there’s a notable difference and wear/tear.

I hear it. Thank you for the constructive feedback.
