Unbreakable
Heartbreaker
Break Of Dawn
You Rock My World
Butterflies
Speechless

favourites in the second half:
2000 Watts
Cry
The Lost Children
Whatever Happens
Threatened

for me it's the first half

Hmm, difficult. I like
1, 3, 6, 7, 8
9, 12, 14, 15, 16

So it's a tie.

Ones I really actively dislike: 2, 4, 5, 13. So side 1 is worse.

Honestly, that’s pretty difficult. I think most of the best songs are on the first half, but “Heaven Can Wait” is (in my opinion) bad enough to make me reconsider the entire first half.

I’d say it’s an even split truthfully.

If R. Kelly wasn't the songwriter of Cry, more people would like the song.
Cry's message is actually okay.

The song was dismissed as a lazy retread of "Man in the Mirror" even before it became widespread that R. Kelly was a sick f***.

It's not like MJ's reputation was good in the 2000s, either.

But if we're honest, producing something as good as MITM isn't necessarily an easy task.

2nd half because of 2000 Watts + Threatened!

but first half is overall better (less boring ballads).
the second half has some horrible ballads, but Cry is actually amazing.

I called it as a bad execution of a bad concept the very first time I heard the album.

When I knew it was going to be a single, my opinion went down.

When I saw the video, my opinion went down even more.

I have to say that the title Cry is a bit misleading for a song that is supposed to do something positive. Crying is a form of catharsis or self-cleansing from which you emerge stronger and can then better cope with the challenges of everyday life.

By 2001 is was simply a dated concept. He'd already recorded about 5 songs like that, so it just came across as formulaic and uninspired. "Oh no, not this again"

Invincible has quite a few songs that are similar to previous works. A scary song (Thriller/Threatened), a song about a woman playing with you (Billie Jean/Heartbreaker), a song that is supposed to strengthen self-confidence (Bad/Unbreakable), a song about the press (Tabloid Junkie/Privacy ).

Exactly. He just sleepwalked through the entire album, on autopilot. And none of the songs you mentioned were better the second time.

For me, the highlight of Invincible is not so much the songwriting, but Michael's voice. When it comes to the selection of songs, this opinion is probably true:
David Browne of Entertainment Weekly, felt that Invincible is Jackson's "first album since Off the Wall that offers virtually no new twists" but remarked that the album "feels like an anthology of his less-than-greatest hits".
