Today it occurred to me that the beginning of Jam fits perfectly with the global challenges that climate change poses to humanity with its life-threatening effects such as droughts, heat waves and floods:

Nation to nation, all the world must come together
Face the problems that we see then maybe somehow we can work it out

The 'Jam' opening lines focus on racial unity, rather than on global challenges that climate change poses to humanity.

The "nation to nation" line is also a reference to Janet Jackson's 'Rhythm Nation' album and song.

Note that Michael Jackson was also inspired by the 'Rhythm Nation' album (in terms of social themes, angular new jack swing beats, etc) when he was making his 'Dangerous' album.

Thematically, the entire 'Jam' project (song, music video) is mostly about racial unity, as confirmed also by its music video in which black, young people who live in ghettos (and with sad, vacant expressions on their faces) appear on it.

One good reason it fits is because political instigators of racial discrimination are often people profiting from environmental detruction (also from the weapons industry, etc.) Those ready to destroy everything for short term gain.
The way towards positive change is for people to find ways to come together across society and the world. Regular people regardless of nationality, motivated by common good. It is the paramount task of our time.

Michael's music provided such an opening, where we can know that everything is possible. It still does!

Yeah, I never really got climate from Jam. Plenty of other stuff though - inequality, racism homelessness, etc. it's such a densely packed song.

Slightly off-topic:
I was checking some rehearsals and it seems that the idea to let Michael stand still for a long time after the toaster jump wasn't fully there yet:
