Last night I was watching on CNN a tribute to the Romanian Revolution - 20 years since December 22 1989.
I wonder, couldn't they just mention something about what Michael did for this country in 1992? If nothing else he is an American benefactor!

September 30, 1992: President Iliescu of Romania inaugurates a playground for 500 orphans which Michael has financed. Michael discusses his Heal the World Foundation.

October 1, 1992: Michael chooses a concert in Bucharest,Romania for worldwide television broadcast. Bucharest is a logical choice due to the numerous orphanages the country is known for.

Yeah, Michael did so much, he was such an angel, but as usual the media is not interested in all the good things Michael did.

we should not forget that this year there was the inauguration of the Michael Jackson memorial alley in the Herastrau Park, on 29.08.
and also the fact that there is a special romanian radio station dedicated to mj, the pro-fm MJ.
Second. i think it's not fair at all to mix MJ with what happened 20 years ago. Needless to say my grandparents have been waiting for the americans when the SHOULD have come. Michael was a miracle but not the American benefactor. i really hate the way you make that sound. too bad people's minds are clouded and their hearts are poisoned here as well as everywhere else that there's tabloids and press, and journalists that don't do their job as they should and just copy what others say without even bothering of checking it out.

Hi, guys! Maybe on this topic we could gather up all the romanians :)

Um, ShadowMaster, Maria, may I ask how old you are? I'm 28, but I read a lot about the revolution.
I think that the CNN documentary was solely about the facts that happened in 1989, and it has nothing to do with Michael, really. A lot of young people died back then for freedom. We're here now, able to speak our mind, because these brave kids gave their lives.

Michael came to Romania three years after that. I sometimes cringe on the streets of Bucharest today, so I can't even begin to imagine what it was like for him, seeing the state of the city, the orphanages, the kids, laying there in their faeces (maybe they did clean the orphanage before, as it was an announced visit, but it was common practice back then).

Shadow, I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you're reffering to? This "Americans who would come and save us" was one of the biggest lies ever invented. Read Alex Stoenescu's book, and you will see that the revolution was in fact decided at Malta, between president Bush and president Gorbachev.
Again, what's that got to do with Mike?

Yes, there is tabloid press in Romania, and yes, they are following in the footsteps of the other ones, but the mainstream media showed Michael respect, all-in-all.

Ugh, this message would of been so much easier to write in Romanian, lol.

These are just my opinions, and I didn't want to hijack the thread in any way! Merry Christmas to you all, Craciun fericit! :)

hi well first of all i am 28
second if you read my post carefully you will understand ...i was talking about the way people perceived the things as they have been long lied to and they hoped and waited for some help that never came and it wasn't supposed to come anyway ...not about what was decided on some high ranked gangs
and third ...my point exactly: since when the revolution has something to do with Michael ?
fourth ... the press showed respect for michael before the 93 crap. ever since then i could only see tabloid BS being translated and reported as actual facts and if there were respectful and truthful reports on him they were as visible as drops in the ocean.
craciun fericit si tie. in masura in care mai poate fi fericit de acum incolo ...:(

what i don't understand is what on earth is this thing with the ..."American benefactor" thing... he belonged to the whole world and not just to the US. and he never helped people on behalf of america , but because he felt that was the right thing to do and because he cared.

ps ..i've been trying to gather up all romanians here for a while too ...we're some strange breed sometimes ...:(

Aww, Shadow, I'm so sorry you are lonely :better: Feel free to PM me anytime, I don't want to ruin the thread here...

I think the term benefactor does not exist in English, that's what confused me :) I think Maria was reffering to the charity work Michael did in Romania. Which was outstanding, as was his work in other countries, it's only that we needed much help at the time and it was and still is greatly appeciated.

Coltzishori is right, we DO remember!!! It's one of the reasons we love him so much!
(p.s., I went to both concerts, my mom took me, I thank her to this day :) )

I still believe that it has nothing to do with the romanian revolution, or the way CNN documented that, um, maybe the thread is off topic? :D

Shadow I didn't mean to upset anyone. Of course the revolution had nothing to do with Mike, but he did what he could to comfort some innocent victims, and I felt it should be mentioned by the US media somehow. Not that I hope they will, but some things are worth being said.

Hi all. I read carefully all the posts in this thread.:cheeky:
Let's face it, it's much easier to observe the sad things reflected in media, in Romania or wherever, than to take a stand against this crap.

I also feel extremely angry on news, especially when they used Michael's name for rating. ProTv made a special edition with Dansez pentru tine in his manner, remember. It happens that my profession is on beaux-arts, so I dare to speak frankly and critical, but in a conscience mood. It really went to a complete kitsch, starting from Iulia V's dresses (his image printed and decomposed...) You also may remember RadioZu and the challenges: to go up and dance Billie Jean on a car, in the middle of a crossroad in Bucharest...
You can see with a clear mind that they all are not afraid to use his name, and to redirect the attention for their own goals.
I am sad too that if one googles MJ fan club, in R will find so pathetic articles and blogs... less informed, too subjective, you know.
It's up to us to express a strong position and to determine them to change this attitude. I really believe that, and you may see some from my actions and idea on mjj fan. My name is the same on that forum, and you can read it all without being a member.

I can figure you would feel a little uncomfortable there, but please, if we don't try to be indeed united, and understand and support each other, who else do you think would make this? At least there we may speak in our native language... this means much more time for thinking.
BTW, I was 18 in 1989. I can relate clearly to all those years, I had my time on college in Bucharest and I have memories from Michael's both concerts. But this is not the most important. There are so many like me.

I really would appreciate to hear from you soon.
