Was this concert in Munich 1999 a lot better than the ones in Munich 1997?

I was at History concert in Dublin, Ireland in July 1997 and I was also at the MJ and Friends concert in Munich in 1999.

They were very different concerts.

The History concert was a full almost 2 hour performance by Michael.

The MJ and Friends concert in Munich was more like an all day festival. It was originally meant to be two concerts, one which had classical music artists and one which had pop and modern artists, but they combined the two ideas and just had one all day concert.

It started about 2pm and there were many different people performing. Some did one song, some did a few. Some were international, some were just known in Germany.

Michaels part was the last part, late at night and he did about 30 minutes.

The 1999 Munich concert cannot be considered better than the ones in Munich in 1997.

The reason is mainly the serious bridge accident that he had (during the 1999 Munich concert) which marred the rest of his show.

They are both very different types of concerts. One was a world tour, one was a charity event where Michael was the headliner.

They can not be compared to say which one was better as you are not comparing like for like.

The only thing thats the same is the location, they were both in the Olympic Stadium and he stayed at Bayerischer Hof Hotel for both events.

Even the audience was different, as they were not all there just for Michael. Fans of all the other artists who performed were also there.

Each has its own characteristics. The concert in 1999 seems to have continued the performance style of MTV 1995.
There is no comparison between Munich 1999 and Munich 1997.

This could have been a fabulous concert. He was going to do She's Out of my life with Mariah Carey , although looking at the rehearsals for it it is not a duet song but he still sounded great in his parts. The ( and i am sorry to bring this up lol) annoying lip synching Black or White , Scream etc , i could care less for it. It was basically an extension of History , the first one though was horrible when he had that accident doing Earth Song.

Apparently the setlist was:
  1. "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough"
  2. "The Way You Make Me Feel"
  3. "Scream" (contains excerpts of "Jam")
  4. "Black or White" (contains excerpts of "Beat It" and "Thriller")
  5. "Billie Jean"
  6. "Dangerous"
  7. "Earth Song"
  8. "You Are Not Alone"
  9. "Heal The World" (instrumental)

I read it was Sade.

I think the Dangerous performance from Munich 99 was most likely the most awesome one he ever had done before!! I remember being mesmerized by the color red as I knew he hadn't performed it like that before... The slow motion was a gift too!!!

Probably as close as we would get to the planned (and rehearsed) HBO special "revamp" of the dangerous performance.
