Hi! If you don't like this post, please tell me why, I SUCK at social stuff, but I LOVE Michael Jackson.
Is there stuff to say to haters/gullible people to try to get them to understand that he's innocent/didn't want to be white/etc.?
Things that don't let them dismiss you as a lovesick fangirl?
Things that are compeletely fact-based and also make people consider it, instead of just the classic "Idk I just feel like he ____?
I AM IN DESPERATE NEED OF THIS. I really don't know what to say to people who are on the brink of thinking he's innocent but going with the flow of their friends.
Please help!

and, you know, to the haters too who just think EVERYONE's guilty of anything they're accused of :(

I tend to be Socratic about it. Conversation example based on one I've had:

Person: I don't like him, I think he was guilty as sin.

Me: Why do you think that?

Person: No innocent person lets children sleep in their bed.

Me: Where did you hear that?

Person: The news?

Me: Are you sure that's accurate?

Person: Are you saying they're lying?

Me: Michael tended to sleep on the floor while the kids slept on the bed. The door was always open and adults were going in and out of the room, which was much more like an apartment than a room perse.

Person: So he never slept with kids?

Me: Say he did. Then what?

Person: No grown man would sleep in a bed with kids unless he was up to no good.

Me: Why?

Person: You know how men are. Why would he? That's weird as ****.

Me: Yeah, I do. But was Michael Jackson like any other guy?

Person: He was still a man.

Me: Would it matter if he was a woman then?

Person: I don't know, probably yeah.

Me: You hesitated. Women can get away with this sorta stuff more often than-

Person: It would still be gross for a woman to share the bed with kids.

Me: Right, but the social role of women is of children's protectors, so it's far more egregious and publicized when a woman does wrong to a child in this context. We give women more leeway. And you know, I agree that's valid. Women are less likely to do terrible things.

Person: Well, I think women are more guilty than what's reported.

Me: Sure, but even then the statistical gap isn't narrowed at all. My point is, Michael clearly had more "feminine" character when it came to children in general. Is that not a fair statement?

Person: I guess.

Me: Good, so then when you mix in how childlike he could be, that Peter Pan syndrome, is it not fair to suggest it may all just be innocent then?

Person: It could be, but I don't know.

From there I'd just talk about how different his behavior is from profiles of pedophiles like Epstein and combine the former argument with how there's a lot of counterevidence. This creates a unique situation for MJ that you can't really apply to anyone else.

thank you SOOO MUCH!
but also what if they have no idea who MJ kinda is? just that he's a pedo and a pop star? they don't know how he acted, or how feminie he was, or how childish? I just get so upset when stuff is said about him that isn't true and I just end up shutting my mouth and breathing bc otherwise I'll sound like a faithful, ignorant fan :(

There's people that think Donald Trump is a crusader for women's rights, you just can't win with some people. If they're open to discussion, you just have to be patient in the same way. If they don't know how gentle and innocent MJ was with kids and fans, then at that point you have to inject examples. If someone doesn't have a cognitive schematic for MJ, the only way to upend that is by behavioral examples to give direct evidence.

When haters try to spread hate and you give hate back , the hate grows bigger and more powerful , but if you truly love Michael like you said , then do what he would do , give hate love back because love is like water on a fire !

Those people have been influenced by the lies of the media for a long time. The best thing to do do is to ignore them and enjoy his music.

I used to get into these sorts of arguments and try to defend him in in the school playground in 1993. I was like 16 at the time.

As I grew up, I realised it was a waste of time. Everybody has different tastes, different opinions, etc. let them believe what they want to believe. I don't care enough to try to make the whole world think like me or listen to the same music as me.

You can correct them all day long if you want. However, a lot of haters pretend to be ignorant to appear more "relatable" and if you don't see through that bs, you can be easily swayed. Sometimes it's hard to tell if it's a hater trying to convince some bystander, or if it's two haters playing a silly game of pretending to reach an epiphany. The conversation can look something like this:

"Did you knew what his nose fell off?"
"Oh, it did? Didn't he have like multiple like surgeries on his face?"
"I think he bleached his face or something"
"Didn't he say he slept with kids and stuff?"
"I heard he was in a trial or some stuff and paid everyone"
"Thank you so much for informing this, I didnt know!"

It's infuriating. But I would say, don't engage. This is the kind of game they want you to play with them.
