Can anyone explain to me why there seem to be a lot more recent posts when I click 'Activity Stream', than when I click 'New Posts'? In other words, it seems not all new posts end up in 'New Posts'!

From what I can see, New post are specifically tailored to each member. It actually lists "threads" that have posts in them that you haven't viewed yet. It doesn't show individual posts. If you click on the top thread on the list and go to the last page it will disappear from the list.

The Activity stream shows each individual post, all the activity on the board.

I understand what you're saying qbee, but my point is that not all threads with posts I haven't read yet show up on New Posts. This morning, for example, when I logged in, there were only 3! (Yet the Activity Stream indicated there should, to my way of thinking, have been far more) The thread where I 'introduced' myself never showed up in New Posts, so I'd've missed all your welcomes if I'd been relying on New Posts!

So, I'm still having to trawl through all the categories on the main Forum page to find new posts. Which is kinda what I was hoping to be able to bypass, when I registered!

Perhaps I'm missing something, but isn't there a quick way of seeing all the threads with new posts in one list?

Anyone care to share how they manage their forum visits?

Ok Helen I see what you mean. We have just updated the forum so Im not up to par on how everything works yet. Gaz can give you more information when he gets in on how "New Posts" work

But this might be what you are actually looking for in the mean time

It will subscribe you to threads you have posted in.

Click on "Settings " top right
Scroll down to "Messaging & Notification"
Select your option for default subscribtion mode

When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread. or just have them listed in your (control Panel) settings.

I use "through my control panel only" - and then when i click on "settings" again the threads I am subscribed to are listed there, under

Subscribed Threads with New Posts:

Now if you want to subscribe to a thread you haven't posted in
Once you open a thread at the top see "Thread tools" you can click subscribe from there.

I hope that will help you some what manage your forum visits until we get more information

Let me know if you need further help and Ill be happy to assist you.

Thanks again qbee for trying to help me. I think as a newbie I am limited in what I can do/what settings I can alter. I can't subscribe to a topic for example. I'll muddle on ...!

Yes as a Jr member you dont have access. Once you get 10 post and get upgraded to proud member you will have access to the settings

Just to say the system's working and that since I got to 10 posts I can now see all updated threads when I click 'new posts'. Good heavens, there are so many! A lot don't really interest me, so my next mission is to try the settings and subscriptions thingie you mentioned qbee, to whittle them down a bit! Thanks again for your help.
