"A truly fascinating and deeply moving window into one of the most iconic families in the world, Lisa Marie Presley's memoir - recorded on hours of tape and compiled by her daughter Riley Keough after Lisa Marie's death - makes for raw, emotive and utterly compelling reading.

Born to an American myth and raised in the wilds of Graceland, Lisa Marie Presley was never truly understood…until now. Before her death in 2023, she’d been working on a raw, riveting, one-of-a-kind memoir for years, recording countless hours of breathtakingly vulnerable tape, which has finally been put on the page by her daughter, Riley Keough.

In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir.

A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and grieved.

Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, laid in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them. About getting dragged screaming out of the bathroom as she ran towards his body on the floor. About living in Los Angeles with her mother, getting sent to school after school, always kicked out, always in trouble. About her singular, lifelong relationship with Danny Keough, about being married to Michael Jackson, what they shared in common. About motherhood. About deep addiction. About ever-present grief. Riley knew she had to fulfill her mother’s wish to reveal these memories, incandescent and painful, to the world.

To make her mother known.

This extraordinary book is composed of both Lisa Marie’s and Riley’s voice, a mother and daughter communicating across the transom of death as they try to heal each other. Profoundly moving and deeply revealing, From Here to the Great Unknown is a book like no other – the last words of the only child of a true legend."

Lisa Marie Presley’s Memoir, Co-Written by Riley Keough

Actress will also read audiobook of From Here to the Great Unknown, featuring mother's own voice via "breathtaking vulnerable" recordings
By Daniel Kreps 4 JUNE 2024

"Keough will read the audiobook for the memoir, which will also feature Lisa Marie’s own voice from the aforementioned tapes.

“Few people had the opportunity to know who my mom really was, other than being Elvis’s daughter,” Keough said in a statement. “I was lucky to have had that opportunity and working on preparing her autobiography for publication has been a privilege, albeit a bittersweet one. I’m so excited to share my mom now, at her most vulnerable and most honest, and in doing so, I do hope that readers come to love my mom as much as I did.”

I love that Riley is doing this for her mother, and maybe for herself. I know very little about Lisa Marie, but the topics mentioned in the press release intrigue me (the aspect of the family setting she was born into, the topic of grief, etc.) It sounds like this memoir will not be sensational but the story of a /another human being who had to deal with a lot (in the public eye).

Riley Keough Helped Finish Mother Lisa Marie Presley's Posthumous Memoir“Thankfully, Presley had recorded her story on various tapes. Riley listened to stories from her mother's life, in her own voice, such as smashing golf carts at her childhood home, Graceland, long relationship with Riley's father, Danny Keough and her marriage to Michael Jackson”

wendi is your person for knowing more about Lisa Marie. I'm that person who, having listened to a couple of her songs way back always thought, 'oh yeah, I'll listen to some more one of these days and find out more about LMP' and, of course, never did. I knew the basic Michael story but not so much the rest of it.

but the topics mentioned in the press release intrigue me (the aspect of the family setting she was born into, the topic of grief, etc.)
I find the details of her life quite sad. I don't think her childhood was great. Her Dad loved her but I don't think childcare was his superpower. She didn't seem to have much in the way of boundaries which all kids need. That said, she seems to have been remarkably balanced, given her wild childhood, so kudos to her for being able to do that.

It sounds like this memoir will not be sensational but the story of a /another human being who had to deal with a lot (in the public eye).
I wouldn't normally do audiobooks but I might make an exception for this one since it will include not only Riley's voice but also snippets of LMP's voice. The book is expensive (£25 in the UK) but I'm gonna go for it. I love that it's going to be available in 8 other languages. German! Did you see that?

Also, it's already at No.3 in one of the book charts just off its pre-order figures! 😲

"From Here To The Great Unknown", Lisa Marie Presley's memoir book, reached number 3** on Amazon Memoirs Best Seller list! The pre-sale includes the autograph of actress Riley Keough, daughter of Lisa Marie."

@JuliaBerkowitz1
"I think the autograph is only included if you pre-order from the official Graceland webshop, no?"

**Apparently, it's now at No.1 :)

Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough interview are featured in People Magazine this week: “What she wanted to do in her memoir, and what I hope I’ve done in finishing it for her, is to go beneath the magazine headline idea of her and reveal the core of who she was.”

...and Oprah: Lisa Marie's firstborn daughter, Riley Keough, opens up about her late mother and life in her famous family for an exclusive prime-time special on CBS and Paramount+. "An Oprah Special: The Presleys — Elvis, Lisa Marie and Riley," produced airs Tuesday, Oct. 8.

It was my first experience with loss and pain. It was incredibly sad. My mother was devastated by Michael’s death. I hadn’t spoken to him in 10 years, but he had been my stepfather and I was emotionally connected to him. It was very difficult for everyone…” - Riley

“But we just wanted to be alone , to be normal…”
I really wish she had gone into more detail on the mischief they got into after they got married. Granted, she might have wanted to keep some of those memories to herself, which I understand. Or maybe she meant to share more but didn't get to because... well...
