Rate The Bryan Loren Tracks!

Well, in Bryan's defense: it must be really frustrating to work with the biggest pop star of all times, then have nothing being released*, just to discover that all your work has been leaked... so everyone can enjoy those tracks, but you don't make a penny. I understand his pain.
But he still acted rude in the podcast episode, that's true as well.

*Of course, Superfly Sister was released much later, on BOTDF.

How can you rate a couple of songs that haven't even been leaked in decent quality? I haven't heard half the tracks you guys mentioned and neither have you, at least not in full or in good quality...

As for Seven Digits you're right, but for Don't Believe it enough has leaked to get an idea of how the song is like, and honestly I think it sounds awful.

I don't really like any of them. Maybe Mind is the Magic is my favorite, but apparently that one wasn't even by Bryan Loren?

It really sounded like MJ was trying to emulate Prince on these songs. They sound something like Prince's Batman soundtrack. This direction just doesn't suit MJ very well.

1. Serious Effect
2. She Got It - this one has potential, actually if it gets propperly mixed [not remixed!] I'd place this to #1
3. Deep In The Night
4. Superfly Sister
5. Man In Black

X. Work That Body - this one's just awful imo

I enjoy them all. Even if I rate them as not great. They could've been on the special edition and that's all really. But I could also see them being contemporized and maybe sounding cooler to some, the production is so basic they're pretty much perfect for that.

SuperFly $ista is my number one here. I know it is not spelt like that at all but that's ok . Mind is the Magic & Lisa. It's Your bday.

...Yep. & Serious Effect is Okay. It does sound classic him, to me too .. i get that.
I remember the rumour of a "Men in Black" track being a big thing when dangerous was released.

Deep In The Night is the best Loren track instrumental-wise imo, even if it's repetitive. It's no wonder that it's one of the few Bryan Loren tracks that MJ kept working on throughout years.

I didn't even know it was a Loren track. Couldn't even tell.

Here we go! Let's revive this thread every year!
  1. Do the bartman (idk if that count)
  2. Man in black
  3. She got it
  4. Serious Effect
  5. Work that body
  6. Superfly Sister
  7. Deep in the night
  8. Family thing
  9. The Verdict (I actually like it ngl)
  10. To Satisfy You
I'm not counting Seven Digits, Don't Believe It, Homeless Bound, and Garbage because they haven't been leaked in full yet. Seven Digits is my favorite, while I still need to hear the full versions of the others, although Garbage catches my attention.

Superfly Sister and She Got It are the only songs I rate (outside of Do The Bartman). Serious Effect is alright.

Thankfully none of it made the Dangerous album and he was replaced. Life can be cruel, but his songs are far from the quality I'd have expected from Michael Jackson in 1991.

I think it's fair to judge songs like "Garbage" and "Homeless Bound" when the snippets we got are long enough and is practically all there is to the songs
Ghost of Another Lover was actually produced by Thom Russo, but as for my list it goes:

1- Mind Is The Magic (The Fancy Remix, the screams on the original kills the vibe of the song for me.)
2- Serious Effect
3- To Satisfy You
4- Seven Digits
5- Superfly Sister
6- Work That Body
7- Lisa It's Your Birthday
8- She Got It
9- Do The Bartman
10- Don't Believe It
Nowadays my ranking is:

1- Mind Is The Magic (Fancy Remix)
2- To Satisfy You
3- Deep In The Night (if produced by Bryan Loren)
4- Serious Effect
5- Superfly Sister
6- Homeless Bound (it's such a nice track to vibe to, I never expected much of the song with the description we were given so I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did)
7- Work That Body
8- Lisa It's Your Birthday
9- She Got It
10- Garbage (I'd rank it below Verdict since there isn't anything noteworthy about this track but I do like the bridge)
11- Do The Bartman
12- Don't Believe It
13- The Verdict

I personally like the sounds of all the Loren tracks. Idk, they do the trick for me.

I agree with them not being strong enough to be on Dangerous, though Superfly Sister is very underrated.

Not gonna rank anything, because it depends on the mood of the day.

Man In Black sounded better in garbled form with the first leak , but listening to the track in its original I realize it's nothing special. It also contains the same problem as many other Dangerous Album songs: Too long. Serious Effect is my favorite track among these. Not just the LL Cool J rap, but the outro is simply fantastic. One of the best outros in his entire catalogue IMO. This song should have taken the place of "Why You Wanna Trip On Me" and Bryan Loren could have getting the credit he deserved. It would not have compromised the flow of the album.
