The game was released on 14 February 2002. According to the game creator, Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Michael begged to be in the game since viewing an early copy. Mizuguchi originally refused due to the game being close to release date. Yet thanks to the pressure from Mizuguchi's team, he agreed and they rushed 'Space Michael' and some voice lines into the game last minute.
