The Jacksons headlined a day of old-school classics with hour long supporting sets from Boney M and Sister Sledge.
Was only Jackie and Marlon (no Taryll) with their usual UK band.
Setlist was their standard fare, although they were a good 10 minutes late on stage which meant the last sing 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' was cut.
What WAS special, however, was the side of stage presence of one Janet Jackson who was spotted by a pair of eagle-eyed young girls in the front row.
Halfway through the show, Marlon spoke about the passing of Tito and got rather emotional. They then played a 'Gone Too Soon' tribute video to Michael, Joe and Tito. They announced Janet was present and that it was the first time she had seen this video. Then they brought her on stage and had a nice family embrace together before Jackie plugged her upcoming Vegs dates.
First time seeing the Jacksons; it's frustrating that the vocals are not higher in the mix but this seems to be consistent every time I see a clip of them performing. It really takes you out of the moment, particularly if you're not a long-term fan.
But it was heartening to see a lot of MJ fans dressed up. A couple of guys shared MJ moves and were were thrusting and whirling for all their worth in the lead-up to the opening.
Anyone else attend?
