Most of the devices used today are able to bypass Macrovision pretty easily. A proper bypassed transfer has been done already by a Korean fan at the other forum, an uncompressed avi file, but the quality is what's expected from a VHS.

I don't mind getting another rip,even though we already have JohnKimlove's rip.
 
If you people are really considering buying this junk, you should consult damoonwalker for transferring it.

Care to elaborate on why it's "junk"? VHS is of a similar resolution to Laserdisc or DVD. And this is a new copy. Hence why it'd be important to capture it properly so that then people who are good with video enhancing can do a good upscale, create more frames, color correction, etc.
HappyLee's Brunei (Laserdisc source) looks great, for example.
Another good reason is preservation, as, again, this is an official release with few copies and only available in analog format.

I mean, the show itself can be considered junk, I do not have interest in seeing a feverish Michael struggle to perform for 2 hours, although I'm sure some people here do.
While I do agree that buying a brand new copy of this VHS would be pretty ideal and that preservation is important, I don't think most people here are going to contribute to buy an overpriced VHS tape of a concert we already have, and from the HIStory Tour too!!
 
^^ I definitely agree with you in terms of performance quality, but I can absolutely see the value in obtaining a potentially higher quality copy of an existing show. If this was a brand-new HIStory tour show, I couldn’t be bothered.
 
The quality of Seoul 96 that we know from YouTube is certainly not better on the vhs

Sure. There's an uncompressed rip available already. Buying a sealed copy for another rip which will potentially be of the same quality is just not necessary or worth the money.
 
Yeah, I remember the threads on the last attempt to bypass the macrovision on this show. Is the uncompressed rip worth upgrading? If not, then I wouldn't bother with this.

Huh? It does not.

VHS only has approx 220-240 lines of resolution. Laserdisc has 440 lines and DVD has 480.

It's really important to know how this copy has been stored. If it was in a damp garage, or stored near a strong magnet (eg on top of a TV) then this copy will look garbage.
 
If there is a crowdsource to fund this, I believe my kit can bypass the macrovision protection.

You could use a translator, just like I did to translate your text. When we all want to communicate, we need to use a language everyone understands, which is English in this case 😊.

I'm not tech savvy and would have no idea how to get the tape from a VCR to a computer anyway. :/
