Were there ongoing grudges between Michael and Paul McCartney?

I don’t mean to start a heated discussion, I’m merely curious. Michael and Paul McCartney got along well or at least were professionally respectful of each other, until Michael bought The Beatles catalogue and there were no more public appearances of them.

However, Paul doesn’t seem bitter when talking about it, even in 2023, and still jokes about Michael’s soft-talking like a friend would. And Michael said in the 1993 Deposition that he likes the Beatles music. So apparently, their “falling out” wasn’t that bad and they still talked respectfully of each other?

What does Michael liking The Beatles’ music have to do with anything? Firstly, there were 3 other members in that group, and secondly you can like someone’s music without liking the person.

MJ and Paul liked each other fine. Their friendly relationship unfortunately ended. But there was always respect for each other.

It's the fans who pit them against each other like angry dogs. It's Nintendo vs Sega all over again.

Paul was certainly bitter about it for a long while. I think once someone is gone, and especially at the age Paul is now, along with passage of time, you can learn to let go of things.

It appears that Paul McCartney never managed to get over it, given that he tried several times (in 1985, in 2017, etc) to purchase back The Beatles catalogue rights.

It is also ironic that Michael Jackson sings in his 'Money' song about backstabbers, when he was the one who stabbed Paul McCartney back with that in 1985 (August).

Michael Jackson was innocent man. He was too kind to stab in back. He never lied. He never abused anybody. He was the kindest person on the Earth. Once he even stopped his tour, because there was a little ladybug and he was afraid of hurting it.

How did Michael stab Paul in the back? Paul didnt buy it when he had the opportunity and Michael had the chance of a great business deal. Thats not backstabbing at all.

Paul didn't really wanna own it, from my understanding he just wanted it in hands he could more easily persuade to hear his feedback. The exact opposite of Michael and his men like Branca.

This is not correct. Paul was bidding on the catalog and even tried to get Yoko to go in with him but she refused. Michael, another guy and Sony came in with a bid. The bidding got ridiculous and Paul, even though he could afford to, declined to continue because we'll, it was his music he wrote or co wrote and he thought it was too pricey. So Michael and Sony walked away with the catalog. Paul and Michael's friendship wanted with Paul asking about the songs and Michael saying this is just business. Paul said there was no argument; they drifted apart. Since Michael's death there have been changes. Paul now owns the rights in the US. In 2017 Paul won back the copyrights to the Beatles songs he co wrote sans Penny Lane (the ATV catalog has other songs) in a private settlement with Sony. Michael's shares were sold to Sony in 2016. The catalog became a part of Sony and ATV no longer exists. Sony owns the rights outside the US. Northern Songs which previously held the songs dissolved in 1995. Songs by John Lennon remain with Sony due to a deal with Yoko. They can retain the rights until 70 years after Lennon's death in 2050. Harrison's songs are under Harrison's Ltd. Ringo has his under Startling Music.

It is true. It's my opinion.

In a perfect world, I think he'd rather all the Beatles be able to just possess their own rights and go from there. Obviously we've gotten farther and farther away from that.

But of course he wanted to own it. If he couldn't he'd rather it'd go to a friend he could trust like, Yoko.

That should be Harrisongs...stupid autocorrect

I'm going to tell you that your opinion is not fact. A simple Google search can clarify things for you. I don't understand why people choose to believe their own nonsensical narratives when the evidence is right in their faces.

Paul has stated in more than one interview that his beef with Michael was bc Michael allowed the Beatles songs to be used in adverts, something the Beatles had always said they would never do. I'm quite sure Paul had enough money to buy the song rights if he had really wanted to in 1985. The problems started with how the songs were being used commercially.

What are you yapping about?

Why would I need to Google what I already know. Everybody knows songwriters would rather own their own songs. Paul "declined" but obviously there was way more baggage involved. Yoko declining didn't help.

Michael was a true badass who knew exactly what he was doing.

He was the biggest artist in the world who made a real statement buying the Beatles catalog and also marrying the only daughter of Elvis.

Think about that for pop culture.

Remember he took advice from Paul, as regards to LMP. She was the one who contacted him after those allegations, going slightly off track, Lisa Marie's mother is shameful discussing confidential talks she had about her & michael all to promote her book

Interesting topic… wasn’t Paul on the yacht screening LV with Orca and Geffen and company? Things that make you go hmm. 🤔

According to mj_frenzy it's an absolutely appropriate act and has nothing to do with backstabbing. I wouldn't be surprised if mj_frenzy watched LN every day for the last 5 years. Otherwise I can't explain his hatred toward the "singer".
