Jackson 5 medley was always great and one of the best parts of the show. I wouldn't remove that but I'm not sure what to think about Off the Wall medley on History Tour. I think hearing a one song fully is better than hearing small parts of three songs. What do you think?

For example this was planned for This Is It:

I think they should have just done Rock With You only.

Medleys are great if you have a lot of songs.

But sadly, Michael performed the same Jackson 5 medley again and again. Jackson 5 had so many songs, but Michael performed the same three songs as part of the Jackson 5 medley for like 5-6 tours straight. I had no desire to listen to the Jackson 5 medley after the Bad tour.

Off The Wall medley was okay, but too bad it was lip-synced. Had it been live, it would have been amazing.

I understand that the Jackson 5 Medley can get repetitive, but on the History Tour, singing it at a slower tempo gave us iconic performances like the one in Brunei in December 1996. Also, if you compare it to his voice on "This Is It," on "I'll Be There" it sounds exactly the same. And I'd even venture to say that, in general, his voice sounded better in 2009 than in 1996/1997, despite having other physical or drug-related problems.

Regarding the Off the Wall medley on the History Tour, I think it's great, but if he had sung it live, it could have been just as iconic as the Jackson 5 Medley. At least the final part of "DSTYGE," where he sings live, shows that he could have easily performed that song live.

On the other hand, I think the instrumental version of "This Is It" is good. Did he plan to sing it without playback, and that's why he changed the key? I wonder if he rehearsed the whole thing live. Perhaps they didn't include it in the film to avoid making it too long.

I think medleys are inevitable if you have a long career with lots of hits.

But yeah, I'd have preferred different J5 songs.

Never Say Goodbye being left out of the J5 Medley from Victory Tour and onwards has always been disappointing to me. The Off The Wall-medley on the HIStory Tour was a nice idea, but feels plastered on. Just ten years earlier Michael had sung these song with great energy, jumping up and down the stage, seemingly limitless in scope. But here it comes off as a purely nostalgic gimmick of a defeated man. Him wearing that suit jacket certainly didn't help. The energy is not... there. Compare this to the reunion with the Jackson brothers in MSG in 2001. Look at the energy, the moves, the charisma! Can you feel it?

This is It was going to just have Rock With You only. Don't Stop was a band interlude, then Shake Your Body followed and had the dancers part you see in the movie, then MJ enters at the end of that to then go into Rock With You.

Are you sure? That is the band rehearsal audio Jonathan Moffett originally posted on his channel.

I also wished for some variations in the J5 medley.
I think the medley dated back from the J5 or at least the Jacksons era, was initially I Want You Back/ABC/The Love You Save . With ABC being removed at some point (never performed during solo career I think).
I never considered I'll Be There to be part of the medley as this song was performed much more complete than the other ones.

Recently I had this thought that I would have liked to hear an adult version of Who's Loving You. Just curious since it was one of the highlights of MJ's early vocal performances.

Yes, that audio is from earlier in rehearsals (early May) when arrangements weren't finalised. By early June, the structure is the way I explained. Also as MJ no longer was singing Don't Stop, they put it back into the original key.
