When someone made an abuse claim against Michael, why do they always go to the tabloids?

If someone was abused by a high-profile celebrity and wanted to publish on the newspaper/ media, why sell it for quick, cold cash to the tabloids and not respectable, genuine news sources like the BBC? It always puzzles me that if someone was really abused, they would have some dignity and go to the genuine, ethical and balanced news sources?
