To clarify, this isn't about his image or a physical scar, but rather his internal state - a moment when Michael was so deeply disillusioned with everything that he might have wanted to give up and stop his work (though he never actually did, and continued to fight until the end of his days)

With everything he endured in his childhood, he became very resilient but I thing the 2003 allegations broke him mentally especially when he was accused by the same people he helped personally. Despite this, he continued to release new music.

I believe he was very resilient from a young age and could endure a lot. The accusations were definitely the worst part, though. The fact that he delivered HIStory after 1993 is truly impressive.
You’re right. He managed to endure the allegations despite everything and gave us the brilliant HIStory album. But for some reason, I feel like 2001 really dealt a massive blow to Michael’s expectations and his self-confidence. Think about how it was before: Michael would record albums, make plans, and have some level of control over his projects. He had a general idea of where he was going and what he was doing. There was a sense of certainty about the future. But in 2001, it felt like everything fell apart. After that year, it was as if everything started going in the wrong direction... That chaos in Michael’s life lasted all the way through 2005. In 2006-2008, he finally managed to take a breather and "reboot," but then 2009 was waiting for him. I wish Michael had never stepped on stage again... and had just continued to rest, doing whatever he wanted

Also, the 'invincible' era probably crushed him, as it would have been a failure in his eyes. That must have been such a difficult period, along with his facial insecurities. The fact he only performed 'dangerous' songs in 2002 says a lot.
