Why everybody hates Cry?

It's a song I don't like putting on, but when it comes on I do enjoy it.

I think the beginning throws me off, because it sounds like cheesy imitation of Stranger in Moscow, but I like how it keeps getting bigger and better. Other than that, I think it's a song I need to be in the mood to listen to it. Invincible has other songs I prefer.

We've Had Enough was a stronger song than Cry.
What More Can I Give is even catchier.

Like Always There said, "If its your first MJ listen, then its great, if you've heard any other MJ then its fine."

Michael ended up being very formulaic it would be interesting to see if the tropes of MJ albums would have continued post-invincible.

  • Songs about getting the girl (TGISM, TWYMM, YRMW)
  • Songs being an anthem or savior (WATW, MITM, Keep the Faith, WMCIG, Cry, We've Had Enough, POTW)
  • Change the world (WATW, Cry)
  • Invasion of his personal privacy (WYWTOM, Leave me Alone, Tabloid Junkie, Scream, Privacy)

Get off this platform, you are clearly an MJ hater. Michael said himself he is not Jesus!
Yet, Michael Jackson in that performance also even stands holding his arms out, just like the Statue of Jesus Christ (located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).
Although it might be a bit more over the top than before I believe it's part of the 'act'. If you look at his life as a whole I don't think he was ever actually delusional and thought he was Jesus or anything, although in a sense his work and mere presence did heal people in a way... It's clear that he wanted to imitate Jesus and also be a positive role model; so those two are kinda intertwined I guess.

When I think of it: that performance at the Brit Awards which so many people don't like might actually be the most quintessential Michael Jackson performance ever and it wouldn't surprise me if he saw it as one of his best performances and also wouldn't understand why people would hate it.. thoughts?
Michael Jackson was delusional in more than one ways.

For example, in the late '80s, he demanded to be called 'King of Pop, Rock and Soul':

" ... Michael [Jackson] had wanted a moniker like Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra and Elvis [Presley] ... In fact, I was the one who got Liz Taylor to introduce him at the Soul Train Awards in 1989 as 'the King of Pop, Rock and Soul'..." (Bob Jones)

Or, the fact that he demanded to have these HIStory Statues which clearly showed his egocentrism, vanity and pompousness.

I don't hate Cry, but it's just one of many filler songs on Invincible. A fully produced Shout with more clearly audible vocals would have been much more exciting and would have conveyed Cry's message more effectively.

I like it because it's one of the few songs on the album where MJ uses his trademark vocal tics. He sings it in the classic MJ style, at least.

Oddly, that song is mastered quieter than the songs before or after it on the CD, which means you have to raise the volume a bit for it to be as loud as the others.

Cringey? Really? I don't see any cringey moments

For me cringey moments in MJ songs are, for example, "mamasay mama sa mama cusa" from WBSS (because it sounds like a chorus of savages)

or choir intro of Who Is It and Hollywood Tonight. These 2 song are about 2 girls, being dirty for some reasons, why would he used medieval Christian chants for songs like this? I have no idea
Wow racist much?

Why haven't you been banned yet??

Why are you here. No one is forcing you be on this forum.

If you don't like MJ you don't have to be in spaces dedicated to him.

you're a weirdo.

Yeah, I agree. I actually sort of like it because it’s typical MJ. When I first bought the album in 2001 this would have been one of my favourites on it.

That said, it’s not the first MJ song that comes to mind when I randomly ask Alexa to play me something.

it's definitely like a textbook "change the world" MJ song. not bad but in the context of Invincible, to me it just sorta feels underwhelming compared to these other, pretty crazy tracks that are on the album

I don't hate it, but it's my least favorite from Invincible. It's basically a watered-down Earth Song with less interesting production, worse lyrics, and it took away a spot on the album that could've gone to a much better song imho.

You can change the world (I can't do it by myself)
You can touch the sky (Gonna take somebody's help)
You're the chosen one (I'm gonna need some kind of sign)
If we all cry at the same time tonight

This shit is ass 🤣

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me

This shit is ass 🤣
I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could've been any clearer
If they wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change

This shit is ass 🤣
You can say that about Heal The World and Man In The Mirror as well.... These 3 songs have same idea. So pls MJ hater, never write such comments ever ever again

Actually Invincible is only album post Dangerous, that tried to break MJ track list formula (at least a bit). I mean, strarting with Dangerous MJ formula was:

Anti-Media song(s!) + love ballads + wild love songs + anti-war songs

80% of Invincible content - love ballads and only one anti-war song (Cry)

You can say that about Heal The World and Man In The Mirror as well.... These 3 songs have same idea. So pls MJ hater, never write such comments ever ever again

"If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, then, make a change"

Vs

"If we all cry, at the same time, tonight"

😂

Glen Ballard & Siedah Garrett's lyrics >>>> Pedophile Kelly's lyrics

It has to be said that the message of Cry seems a bit bizarre if you believe you can change the world by crying. Imagine if Martin Luther King had only cried.
MJ had What More Can I Give and We've Had Enough in his drawer and used Cry. I'll never understand that. This is really a crying shame. So let us all cry the same time tonight.

Isn't the Cry video perfect for Hold My Hand with all the people holding hands?

I remember reading a track by track song review of the Invincible album in the sun (I know) back in 2001 and they were rating each song , mostly all 6.5 out 10 but surprisingly they rated Cry as the best song on the album 😳

I was looking forward to listening to the album and especially Cry.

Another memory is feeling extremely underwhelmed at the music video and then even more so when looking back on the UK chart the next day expecting to see the song near the top of the charts….. it peaked at 25 , and then swiftly crept out the charts , yikes

Friendly reminder to use ignore on the racist troll as nothing is going to be done about it

I heard Cry in the video above again after a long time, and it's much better than I thought it would be. And Michael's voice is great.
This happens to me with Michael a lot. I play a certain song not expecting much, or I’m simply indifferent, and then I hear his vocals and I’m a little surprised, taken aback, and I think, actually this is quite good. It’s better than I gave it credit for. His voice man, it’s just so melodic with an incredible tone.

Not so sure many hates it?
Dislike aka not a favorite but thats completely different.
Great that it was released as a single or we wouldnt have…maybe….»Shout» as
it would have stayed in the vault.

Although 'We've Had Enough' was one of the first songs to be recorded for the 'Invincible' album, the song was not fully completed in order to make that album.

'We've Had Enough' was reworked after 2001 (certain of its lyrics were also changed), and it was fully completed for the 'The Ultimate Collection' 2004 box set.

MJ and Jerkins had more than enough (no pun intended) time to finish "We've Had Enough".

"Cry" is Doo Doo feces
