I think the original poster would love CALL MY NAME, from the MUSICOLOGY album. I for one love it, very soulful.

I like controversy and rasberry beret and shes always in my hair but after that not greatly swayed towards Prince.

I know theres probably a thread about this but I dont want the prince afficionados getting their knickers in a twist I just want someone to point out the greatest songs of Prince to try out (I prefer things with a soulful slant)

    Thanks
Welcome to the dark side, lol. Interesting post since I wouldn't call the songs you liked necessarily "soulful," as w/ his later recordings. In any event, if you like Controversy and rasp beret, i'd recommend everything from For You, his first album in 1977 or so, through Lovesexy (1988) [he released an album a yr up until 1992 or so]. Then I think the album quality falls except for a few, and I don't like much since the yr 2000.

if you're looking for a bigger collection of best songs i'd go w/ "The Hits/B-sides," and it's three discs: "clean" hits, "dirty" hits, and b-sides; the b-sides disk is great.

Such a great bunch of tracks here with plenty of soul. When 2 R In Love is so good, Lovesexy is such an incredible album, Anna Stesia is another from that album thats incredible.

If you want something soulful, well, it doesn't come more soulful than a song like I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore. If that one don't break your heart in two, then nothing will.

Prince’s catalog to hit all streaming services on February 12th

"The switch gets turned on for everybody during the Grammys"

BY MICHELLE GESLANI AND ALEX YOUNGON JANUARY 30, 2017, 11:45PM

For the last two years, Prince’s legendary catalog has been streaming exclusively on TIDAL. That’ll soon change, however, as Warner Bros. has struck a deal to bring his music to Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, and other prominent streaming platforms.

According to the New York Post, a release date is set for February 12th to coincide with the Grammy Awards. “The switch gets turned on for everybody during the Grammys,” a source told the Post, which adds that the deal covers Prince’s Warner Bros. releases. Music outside of his Warner contract, including unreleased albums are still being negotiated, the Post adds.

While a formal announcement is still forthcoming, Spotify hinted at the news on Monday with cryptic, purple subway and billboard ads in cities like New York and London.

For years, Prince had reservations about the benefits of streaming platforms. “What I meant was that the internet was over for anyone who wants to get paid, and I was right about that,” he told The Guardian, clarifying a comment he’d made about online media back in 2010. “Tell me a musician who’s got rich off digital sales.” Nevertheless, in 2014 he agreed to a new licensing deal with Warner Bros., which culminated in his music streaming on TIDAL in 2015. Following his tragic death in April 2016, Prince’s estate sued TIDAL seeking to end the platform’s exclusivity.

Along with his music arriving across all streaming platforms, 2017 also promises to give fans a new Prince documentary, a four-day Prince festival at Paisley Park, and yes — even delicious scrambled eggs courtesy of The High Priest of Pop himself.

Prince's Warner Brother's catalogue is back on Spotify. They do not start his playcount from zero but they continue from where it stood two years ago when they took it down. So that means his most played song Purple Rain has a count of about 25,291,780.

I might get the Prince singles. My mate does record store day every year and I've not been to one of them. Might support him this year.

Best Prince post 80s tracks please. I've only listened to his 80s stuff. The guy had too many albums and I'm not such a massive fan of his that I will listen to all his albums from start to finish so I would appreciate it if someone can post top 10-15 best Prince post 80s tracks. Thanks
