Pepsi Partners With Michael Jackson Estate for Commemorative Packaging [Pepsi Promo /Can discussion]

HA!! And where are these "epic live events" and so forth they are going on about??

Oh well. As you said, it's only soda cans. I guess it was too much to anticipate the good old days when Michael was actually shown on TV on commercials and we actually got excited about Pepsi. Now all we are doing is running around like a bunch of nuts looking for some pop cans that may or may not exist. It will never be like it was before.:(

You know what? When I heard about this collaboration, the only thing that I was excited about was seeing the cans on display all over the place...That's not too much to ask, is it? ..Of course, that was before I knew the cans weren't even coming to Canada...So, I was happy to know that at least other countries were getting them, and people would be able to see these cans on display all over the place...I mean, that's pretty cool and exciting...Now, people can't even enjoy that aspect, let alone all these other things they've gone on about...

I'm not feeling very nostalgic, that's for sure

Guys, it's not all Pepsi's fault. Store managers decide whether they WANT the cans or not. Pepsi can't force store owners to accept or display prominently inside their store.

It's up to the public to ask for the cans, if they aren't available at your local stores.

I looked up the original Press Release Pepsi put out not long ago, and here it is. Are we experiencing the things they said would happen??? [ / quote]

let's see :)

engaging retail campaign featuring one billion special edition Michael Jackson Bad 25 Pepsi cans

it's quite engaging in China, lackluster in USA. We'll see the other 20 countries

iconic music

bad is iconic music, that makes the remixes as remixes of iconic music

epic live events

a concert is being rumored

and opportunities for fans to access special edition merchandise.

true in China.

The partnership coincides with the 25th anniversary of Jackson's multi-platinum BAD album and record-breaking tour, around which the Michael Jackson Estate and Sony Music have celebratory projects underway.

shows Pepsi is just a part of it and there are other projects as well - which is true such as the Bad 25 anniversary release.

To celebrate Jackson's incredible contribution to pop music, Pepsi, Sony Music and the Estate of Michael Jackson have teamed up to share new mixes of legendary Michael Jackson music from the BAD album

true - got one remix. At least 3 more was previously rumored A-Track, Diplo and Skrillex. They should be released over time.

Pepsi will feature iconic silhouette imagery of the King of Pop on cans with the launch of collectible limited edition can designs. Pepsi will also run contests in markets around the world giving fans the opportunity to win merchandise including, a limited number of jackets inspired by the original staff BAD tour jackets and tickets to Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque du Soleil, the #1 touring show in North America.

true - this is happening in China. see below

On May 5 in China, a 330ml limited edition can will be available at retail locations nationwide. In addition, from May 15 - June 14, 2012, fans will be encouraged to share photos of their valuable Jackson collections or original artwork celebrating him, for a chance to win tickets to Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque du Soleil, as part of China's "In Honor of King of Pop MJ" promotion.

China and the United States will be among the first Pepsi markets to launch the exclusive Michael Jackson King of Pop activity in 2012, with approximately 20 additional markets in Asia, South America and Europe continuing the international roll-out throughout the rest of the year.

true - cans are available in China and USA and there are other confirmed or rumored countries.

Later in May, the U.S. will launch a nationwide retail campaign including a limited edition 16oz. King of Pop Pepsi can, as well as initiate a retail, music-themed promotion.

cans are out, first remix is out. hopefully promotion will increase.

so yeah we are experiencing the things they said in differentiated degrees.

So this is basically a Pepsi China campaign :D

As I said before Pepsi's goal isn't to sell Bad 25, they want to sell Pepsi. China with its billions of people and given the fact that Pepsi is losing out to Coke is a significant market for them. Business wise it makes sense that they focus their attention to Chinese Market.

If pepsi printed the mj design on all their cans like they do with most of their other promotions the store owners wouldn't have a choice. So yes it is pepsi's fault. Or maybe it's the estates fault for not securing a good promo deal. Whatever.

Yeah, I think the main problem here is the cans are special sized cans that are not normally carried in stores. If they did this on the normal 12 ounces cans, it would have been better.

I don't know how to post pictures on here fromm my phone but my friend just sent me a picture of the Bad25 pepsi cans at his Pathmar and his store displays had a coupon tear pad on the display so you can get the cans for FREE!

:hysterical:
The bus tour name could be:
Hunt for Pepsi cans (Hunt for Red October)
Pepsi can hunter (Deer hunter)

I know its not funny that we have to go looking for these cans, but the mental picture of all the people looking them, running after delivery guys, going shop to shop - state to state, going to Pepsi plants is kind of funny
I think Michael is the only one that can make us to do such a things:wub:

Yeah, Michael fans have become cops, secret agents, treasure hunters, spies, and inter-county/state/country travelers as they hunt for his image on pepsi cans. We are really the greatest!!!!

Finding MJ Pepsi cans = Mission Impossible

Really awesome stuff

I personally think this should be the PEPSI CHINA commercial for BAD 25 (though it is just a Internet viral video commercial from Pepsi , but it is official.)

Fans use 12,000 Pepsi cans to build the largest image of MJ profile in Asia (they claimed).

Location: Guangzhou, a big city in south China.

Really awesome!! best so far.

You know what I can't keep on going like this. I'm gonna give them a few months like lets say on my birthday (September 15th), I will wait until I hear that Pepsi will sell the cans in Canada and I don't care what you guys say. I'm gonna wait, if they are not gonna sell the cans in Canada by my birthday, then I'm boycotting Pepsi. I'm currently at a level of threatening to boycott. I'm just gonna wait until then. I've signed the petition already as I posted yesterday. All I can do is wait and pray.

Yes, Pepsi has every attention to focus on the Chinese Market. A pouplation of 1.3 billion is no joke. However, Pepsi is working hard on the US market as well. I can't avoid a Pepsi ad at all. Pepsi sponsors Good Morning America's summer concert series and US X-Factor. Pepsi is also running the Sofia Vergara ad non-stop. Pepsi has huge Billboards in both Times Square and near Madison Square Garden Theatre - two of the businest areas in New York City. Bottom line, Pepsi is spending a lot of money on advertising in the US. Business wise, Pepsi wants to go back on top in the US as well. The big question is why Pepsi is not carrying out the MJ BAD 25 campaign more effectively in the US. People who don't follow this thread basically know nothing about these cans. To me, this campaign is a non-experience.

First I didn't care much about Pepsi cans with Michael's image on it, but I gotta say...the Pepsi-can virus is very catchy...:D. I want some (will wait patiently until they come to Europe).

Still waiting to catch a glimpse of the cans.

courtesy of MJ fans of NY

Pepsi Can Sighting in Bushwick, Brooklyn @ La Ceiba Corp take the L train to Halsey and walk up Covert Street 2 blocks until Knickerbocker. It'll be on the corner, you cant miss it!

Walmart in Linden NJ!! But they are 16 oz cans so you only find them in the coolers near the registers.

If you can't find them, I'll send one to you.

I said I gave up but of course I made another venture. This time I included 7-11. Nope, nothing, zero, zilch. No where. I have seen pepsi for fourth of July, regular pepsi, pepsi max, pepsi zero, diet pepsi, pepsi with no caffeine, pepsi next, pepsi cherry and something called pepsi throwback. I have these can names memorized and even know their respective colors. A friend of mine got tired of me complaining and bought me one off of Ebay. I refused to do that because this is ridiculous and the prices are insane but she had enough of me complaining and wanted me to have at least one can.

It would have been nice if Pepsi set up a chart on their website or something checking off which states and cities they shipped cans out too, cuz at this point i think i searched every possible retail store, gas station, etc in my city and have found nothing!

Sorry but, But I feel your pain.

Great post btw.

Good luck. :( It seems we get left out of all the fun promotional stuff. I truly hope we do get them though.

I finally found some cans at Walmart. I bought several of them. They were in a special wire rack on top of the coolers by the check outs!

So, to those who haven't found them yet, don't give up!

Heeeeeey! They must be "pop"ping up everywhere now!
I too have found the very evasive MJ Pepsi cans at my local grocers.
It was a small display, but I caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye. :wild:
It was a large size picture of MJ....the one with the silver shirt and he's holding a mic.
Smiling brightly. :D I looked twice and saw the Pepsi cans in a cardboard stand up case!
There was the other pic of MJ...like the one on the cans itself in front . Yay!
The whole thing was about 4 feet tall. I was able to buy them in 16 oz. single cans
for a dollar each.
