Drake featuring Michael Jackson (TONIGHT)

The way the vocals sound kind of reminds me of that fan-made "Take Me Away" song from years ago.

Good song though.

There was definitely support, but the majority consensus seemed to be that it was wrong to alter Michael's music and present it as a finished product, which I could get behind to a degree. Then suddenly it's okay for this song? It's very odd.

I am not sure what you want. I see more negative then positive reactions in this thread.

Xscape did have all the demos in the release.

Well, I wouldn't call this "new music". It's a sample, processed to within an inch of its life and put onto someone else's crappy Rap/R & B album. When they refer to new music, they mean complete MJ songs performed by MJ alone, not "featured".

I think you're failing to see the hypocrisy here honestly.

I like it. Of course, MJ's vocal could sound less processed. However, it also fits somehow to this sort of production that involves Drake's slightly processed vocals.

I am interested how it will do in the charts, and if he will release it as a single?

When Did Michael Jackson Record "Don’t Matter To Me"? Drake’s Album ‘Scorpion’ Featured The Track By The Late Icon

On Friday, June 29 after months of anticipation, Drake's new album Scorpion was released and within hours of dropping, it's become a massive success (and of course, has people talking). Perhaps most notably, though, is a feature by the late King of Pop. But when did Michael Jackson first record "Don't Matter To Me"? The track could possibly go back years. (Bustle reached out to Drake's reps and Jackson's estate for comment on the song, but did not immediately hear back.)

Scorpion has reaching the No. 1 spot on iTunes and Apple Music after just a few hours and the album has fans buzzing about Drake's alleged child, politics, appearances by Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, and more.

The night before the album was released on June 28, TMZ reported that Michael Jackson's "Don't Matter To Me" was a previously unreleased vocal by the singer. In Drake's version, Jackson's vocals lead the hook, as he sings, "All of a sudden you say you don’t want me no more/All of a sudden you say that I closed the door/It don’t matter to me." TMZ described the track as similar to 2014's "Love Never Felt So Good," a previously unreleased Jackson song turned into a duet with Justin Timberlake.

Scorpion was released just a few days after the nine-year anniversary of Jackson's death (June 25, 2009). However, investigating the history of the similar track "Love Never Felt So Good" could help provide some insight on when "Don't Matter To Me" was recorded.

According to SPIN, "Don't Matter To Me" credits legend Paul Anka as co-writer and guest vocalist. Anka also worked with Jackson on "Love Never Felt So Good," which was originally from 1983, in which he played the piano. According to Geo TV, Anka was also credited in the 2014 version of "Love Never Felt So Good." Further, Jackson and Anka had reportedly been working together on an album of duets in 1983 and the project shifted to the back burner once Thriller became a massive, history-making success. Thus, "Don't Matter To Me" could have very well originated in the '80s.

It seems that fans have mixed reactions to Jackson's posthumous track. According to NME, fans on Twitter criticized "Don't Matter To Me," some saying the vocals seemed fake. One fan wrote, “That first posthumous MJ album had fake MJ vocals and this Drake record sounds fake too." Another Twitter user denounced the track, saying, "That fake sounding Michael Jackson on Drake’s album put me in a bad mood."

Other fans, though, are loving the duet.

Although Drake hasn't explained how the duet happened or the process of obtaining the vocals, he's been open about his admiration of Michael Jackson for years. Back in a 2009 interview with MTV News, Drake discussed Michael Jackson's impact on him, saying, "He was the first artist I ever experienced that made you get lost in the music."

In a more recent interview with Nardwuar Serviette in 2016, Drake continuously praised Jackson, calling him the "greatest entertainer of all time." Drake continued, "He pushed himself further and further, did things that I can’t even comprehend, like choreograph dancing, playing instruments, everything. He was just the greatest.”

So far, Scorpion Drake's first album since 2016's Views, has received mixed reviews. A Washington Post critic described Scorpion as too long and "soggy." The Independent gave the album three out of five stars, saying it "lacks a sting in the tail." On the other hand, critics at The Ringer nodded Scorpion for being "decent," "memorable," and "inspired."

While critics and fans may be mixed about the album overall, "Don't Matter To Me" is not only catchy, but it does revive the late and great Michael Jackson in a beautiful way.

i suppose they had to alter m voice to fit in with Aubrey style so it can work, to capture mass appeal to the youths ears of today . i guess the estate interests are all about the kids of today because thats where they profit the most. So, smart business move ...

BUT GIVE IT TO Juice WRLD
NEXT TIME!

I really like it. And it’s already the 4th most downloaded song in the world on ITunes. MJ may have another top 10. That would be great. Thanks Drake

I like what I have heard. Still haven’t heard the whole song. I am SO GLAD that the estate is just not sitting around like other estates and doing nothing. They work hard to keep Michael’s legacy alive. FTR, I am so sick of the naysayers and whiners. In case some of you don’t know it, others mimic what MJ fans say on social media. I hope the whiners don’t spread their negativity. These same people sabotaged Xscape and they are trying to do the same thing here. I guess they won’t be satisfied until the Estate releases nothing. Of course, they will be whining again. WE, MJ fans, are lucky to have such an active estate, that doesn’t only cater to fans. They want to EXTEND Michael’s legacy and bring in new fans and that is good.

After listening to the song a few times, I've to say that I like Michael's vocals despite the autotune. He sounds incredible regardless. Way better than Drake who has to have the most boring vocals ever. The guy sounds like he is on sleeping pills. What a boring vocalist. No excitement or enthusiasm in his voice whatsoever.

But I'm glad the Estate gave permission to Drake to use Michael's vocals. Drake for whatever reason is the biggest artist right now. So if some Drake fan decides to listen to Michael Jackson after hearing 'Don't Matter to Me' and becomes a MJ fan, then it would be a job well done. It would enhance Michael's legacy and that's what it's all about really. Keeping alive Michael's legacy and enhancing it.

But surely artistic integrity counts? A filtered, auto tuned acapella modified to fit this track?

Do MJs own “MELODYNE NEVER” notes mean nothing? Do as we please as long as it pushes MJ to a new generation??

Michael was put in a very uncomfortable position for many years by those in charge now he is gone. He must’ve known they would do this to him.

Michael Jackson's nephew says Drake should've left MJ's unreleased track off his new album ... because Michael wasn't ready for the world to hear it.

Drizzy's "Scorpion" hit Friday ... a track called "Don't Matter to Me" on the album samples an unheard Michael song that was recorded before "Thriller."

Rebbie Jackson's son, Austin Brown, was in Hollywood Friday and flat out says he's not OK with Drake using the unreleased Michael track. Austin believes if MJ didn't finish the song, Drake shouldn't have used it.

Brown does give Drake some props for his talent, but his overall message is clear -- don't touch the secret stuff.

The music world is currently amazed by Michael’s magic again, because of this song. It’s such a good song and production. I love it so much!! It’s refreshing to hear new stuff from MJ after all these years.

The song sounds awesome through my HiFi/Home Cinema setup is. It literally blows you away.

Nice job! Fans are always nitpicking, but the general music buying public has a stronger voice. And they decided that they love this track which counts.

Song is number 2 on Spotify chart worldwide. Number 1 on Spotify for UK. Number 3 on iTunes chart USA.

Honestly, this probably wouldn't have been a hit without Michael. Well maybe, but look at Madonna, as much as she was good, even when she collaborates with new artists, it barely charts. I'm really proud of this song, even if it's not the best collaboration.

I've been keeping an eye on the top 5 radio stations in the UK. The song has been played about 6 times, but other Michael Jackson songs have played about 5 times.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this Song!

MJ still is amazing..

That these vocals are from the same Paul Anka sessions as LNFSG is unbelievable.. They are so different. And i'm not talking about the processing. Yes they are processed, but it's still the one & only Michael Jackson, The King.

Those vocals sound so different, more like coming from the invincible sessions, or maybe like SPYHO...

This definitely was a great surprise & it came out of nowhere for me.. plus only days after this sad anniversary..

Great song & that beat is addicting... I'm not a big fan of drake, but this song is a present from heaven!

To all the whiners, haters & nay-sayers: It's your loss!!!

MJ & the world has another hit... I LOVE IT!!!!

Why i knew you would like it!!!! Just saw your comment... Thinking alike once again!!!

And of course turn up those HiFi-Speakers & crank it out!!!!

I've gotta say, you guys are really missing the point here. Its funny to me how the #1 enemy any MJ project has is the fan community themselves. From your non stop complaining and moaning, you guys can actually sabotage projects. This song is getting huge press, its Top 10 in every major market across the globe. The vocals are autotuned yes, but its clearly Michael. And the young generation loves it. It gives the younger music community a reason to explore Michael Jackson again. This song will go Top 10 on Billboard Hot 100 , that's my guess. This morning its still Top 5 on i-Tunes in both Canada (#4) and the US (#3). If you don't like Drake that's fine but here's the reality..... Drake is the #1 artist in the world right now. His material sells beyond anyone else save maybe Taylor Swift. Having MJ on a Drake track is genius from a marketing stand point.

Via Michael Prince:

Very average song. MJs vocal has way too much reverb and "other" processing on it (he would not approve) AND its not loud enough in the mix.

In truth, I'd rather have Michael's name in the top 10 for his own music, not a hack and slash job executed by an artist who coasts on mediocrity. The only good thing that has come from this is that people are encouraged to actually go listen to good songs instead.

Trying to silence people with legitimate concerns about how the estate is handling MJ's material is really tiring. If you like the song that's fantastic (I don't actually mind the song itself) but stop telling people who think differently to shut up

Hahaha, I will! Even my wife and my daughter (5 years old) like it. They keep playing the track @home, in the car and to people they love.

Love the song! It's a grower. And so happy to see MJ on the charts again. Goog move by the Estate!

Who cares what a long time collaborator of Michael thinks. This is bringing MJ to a new audience!

If Michael has a top 10 hit in US & UK again, I'll over the moon.
