-You can text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross
-You can donate $5 by texting YELE to 501501 or visiting www.yele.org
-Donate via http://www.hufh.org/

Re: Help Haiti

I was just about to post something like this, ForeverTheKing. Great minds think alike, eh?

I just read an article on CNN.com that said hundreds of thousands are thought to be dead or trapped under rubble. Hundreds of UN Peacekeepers are missing, and Doctors Without Borders wasn't active in Haiti. They have no food or running water. They have nowhere to go. We have to help them.

I found this link on the CNN.com website: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/impact/

There are a list of organizations providing direct aid to Haiti. You can make donations to any of them.

Please, please, please everyone -- these people need our help. Haiti was one of the poorest, most disadvantaged countries in the world before the earthquake hit. Nearly 80% of Haitians were living in poverty prior to this devastating earthquake. They need us now more than ever. Please, everyone, Heal the World.

Re: Help Haiti

You're right Billie Jean, Haiti is considered one of the poorest countries in the world, with continuous natural disasters. For this devastation to happen it is truly mind boggling why so many innocent people are struck with so many misfortunes that have become an everyday part of life for them. Seeing the videos and hearing that children are lying dead, crushed on the streets is heartbreaking.

Reports are saying three million are affected and the death toll will no doubt be in the thousands. Many, many more are injured and currently without proper medical care, as the hospitals have been damaged and medical personnel are overwhelmed and without vital supplies. Haitians desperately need basics like food and water. If you can PLEASE help out in any way, every bit counts.

http://www.redcross.org/ - For those interested in helping immediately, simply text "HAITI" to "90999" and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill.

I've donated my $10 to Red Cross as well as $5 to Yele...its so easy people...just send a text message.

Haiti needs food and water...please find it in your heart to donate. Imagine if that was ur mother, father, son, daughter...With Hurricane Katrina it WAS my Aunts,Uncles,Cousins,Great Grandparents,etc...I can relate 2 my ppl that call Haiti home and can't contact ur family. It hurts when you call and cant get thru & u turn on the tv and see the devastation and u immediately think the worse...please HELP HAITI!

Re: Help Haiti

I donated by texting both this morning. Just an FYI that wyclefs foundation can only be donated to by text up to 6 times so I recommend visiting the yele website if you'd like to donate more.

Re: The Daily News Jan 13 - Our thoughts and prayers goes out to the people of Haiti

Thankyou so much to everyone for posting the links. There is also a similar thread in GD V.4 with international links for people worldwide to help that is being built up.

Re: Help Haiti

this thread should have multiple pages right now...come on people lets find out how we can help...post up whats going on in your community :)

Well I have donated to YELE and the Red Cross. I have a few Haitian friends and I'm going to church tonight with one of my friends, who is Haitian, to pray for the victims. I live in NY and although the Haitian community out here is no where as massive as the one in Miami, there are still many Haitians out here and many are affected by this tragedy. I am trying to find out as much information as I can. I hope I can volunteer this weekend or donate more when I have some more time, but as soon as I hear any information, I will post.

Re: The Daily News Jan 13 - Our thoughts and prayers goes out to the people of Haiti

I was right here in Jamaica when I felt a slight tremor, had no idea the earthquake had hit Haiti! Such devastation, I feel so bad for the people there. It was just in 2008 that they had four hurricanes hit back to back!

Re: The Daily News Jan 13 - Our thoughts and prayers goes out to the people of Haiti

Thanks so much for all the links. I donated to the International Med Corps that are going in to do rescues and provide emergency lifesaving medical treatment and trauma care. Jeez they have their work cut out for them... but it is very heartening to see so many people donating from so many places to help in every way possible. :clapping:

Okay, I would have this problem. I just called that number and they said that my call couldn't be completed. Do I dial something else besides 90999?
Thanks.

Re: The Daily News Jan 13 - Our thoughts and prayers goes out to the people of Haiti

Doctors without Borders is a great organization, and sadly, I heard that they had a lot of casualties in Haiti. The scope of this disaster is just overwhelming.

Re: The Daily News Jan 13 - Our thoughts and prayers goes out to the people of Haiti

Praying for everybody in Haity
