"The Voice" results are in and Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons, both of Team Adam, are shockingly going home.

These were easily the most surprising results "The Voice" has seen thus far in Season 4. Judith, a former backup singer for Michael Jackson, was an early favorite.

On Monday night, the singer took on Will.i.am's "#thatPOWER," featuring Justin Bieber. It was a risky move, but Judith had newfound confidence after singing "The Way You Make Me Feel" last week and getting through the emotional performance. Judith was supposed to be Jackson's duet partner for his "This Is It" tour, which was canceled when the singer died unexpectedly. She attracted global attention when she sang the lead on "Heal the World" during Jackson's funeral, but didn't want to seize any of the many opportunities offered to her in the wake of the King of Pop's death.

Early on in the competition, Judith was named "the one to beat on the entire show," according to Newsday, and her departure from "The Voice" definitely came too soon.

Coach Adam Levine saw his team drastically cut after this week's "Voice" results show. Along with Judith, soulful singer Sarah Simmons was sent home. On Monday night's performance round, she sang the tired track "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye, which could have contributed to her elimination.

On to the good news from "The Voice" results show -- Team Usher's Michelle Chamuel was the first to move on, followed by Team Blake's Danielle Bradbery, Team Shakira's Sasha Allen, Team Blake's The Swon Brothers, Team Adam's Amber Carrington and Team Blake's Holly Tucker.

"The Voice" results show kicked off with former mentor Sheryl Crow, who stopped by to sing her new single "Easy" with her former Team Blake mentees -- The Swon Brothers, Holly Tucker and Danielle Bradbery.

Before the final "Voice" results came in, Judith and Michelle gave an energetic performance of "Sweet Nothing" by Calvin Harris featuring Florence Welch; Sasha and The Swon Brothers, the only male competitors left in "The Voice" Season 4, sang "Don't You Want To Stay," originally by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson; the now-eliminated Sarah and Danielle Bradbery took on Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years"; and Holly Tucker and Amber Carrington were the final duet of the night with "Does He Love You" by Reba McEntire and Linda Davis.

Such a bad call on her end to chose that song when she knew she was up against this huge country voting block.

Ousted 'Voice' singer to coach Adam Levine: 'Please don't feel bad'

Not so long ago, Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons were both strong candidates to win season four of “The Voice.” On Tuesday night, both were axed from the hit singing competition.
Their reactions were vastly different.

“I was a little shocked,” admitted Judith after the show, “but I think it was also a good, good lesson.”

Her blind audition was so strong that "The Voice" used it to promote the season premiere back in March. Yet she acknowledged that her version of the will.i.am and Justin Bieber song “#thatPower” failed to connect with the voting public, even as she defended her decision to take the track in a funk direction.

“I don't think anything went wrong musically. I think that it was really one of my more exciting performances,” she said. “I think that if a song is a lot more familiar, has a lot more pop sensibilities, I think that America tends to draw more to that than something they're not used to.”

So what lesson did Judith learn from her “Voice” elimination? “I think that I've learned more about America,” she explained. “I've learned more about just how they receive music, and how to really make sure everything is something they can relate to.”

Teammate Sarah was much less surprised when her name was called. “I just felt surrendered,” she told TODAY.com. “You can't complain at all with this. I have no negative thing to say about it. It was an adrenaline rush and it was a taste of my dream.”

In fact, Sarah found herself calming down their coach, Adam Levine.

“He was really upset,” she explained. “He wanted to talk to us outside (after the show).”

That discussion revolved around selecting Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” for what became Sarah’s final performance on the “Voice” stage. “For the live rounds, I've basically chosen all of my songs (in) collaboration with (Adam), but for this one, he chose it for me,” she continued. “I know he was feeling really bad that I was going home.

“I told him 'Please don't feel bad, because I've never worked so hard in my life on a freaking song.' I told him it challenged me and it stretched me.”

She left the show with high praise for her Grammy-winning coach. “He’s amazing,” she enthused. “I know he wants to stay in contact, which is awesome. He's a really good person. I'm really grateful to know him.”

Even “Voice” host Carson Daly admitted to being stunned by the exits of Judith and Sarah, but he also suggested there was something to be gleaned from the development. “I was surprised. I was surprised at Judith probably more than Sarah, because she's been just such a frontrunner from our eyes,” he admitted.

“But once we go live and we turn the power of the show over to America, there's something liberating about that. If you’re shocked about (Tuesday night's) results, then maybe there's something about America and the way they think and feel that you don't know about.”

Such a shame what the US turned this show into. They drastically changed the original format and not in a good way. :mello:

Cannot belive it :(

Well she still is a star in my eyes

Michael Jackson backup singer cut from ‘The Voice’

Singer Judith Hill, a former backup singer for Michael Jackson, was eliminated from Adam Levine’s team on NBC’s “The Voice” and says that getting cut from the competition was like a scene from “The Hunger Games.”

Judith Hill reflects on Michael Jackson, 'The Voice'

Judith Hill, a contestant on "The Voice" last spring, will play with Josh Groban at the United Center on Sunday.

Look below for a Q-and-A with the artist on her career and what to expect at her live show.

Q. What was it like being selected as Michael Jackson's duet partner for “This Is It”?

A. It was pretty mind blowing. I was not expecting it at all. I was gigging in town in LA, and then I met a musician friend and they put my name in as a recommendation. It just happened so fast. When I got the call I was completely honored. I had no words, really. You know, they Could have chosen anyone, but to be chosen by Michael was incredible and amazing. It just seems like a big dream, actually. It was a beautiful experience.

Q. How did your interactions with Michael Jackson influence your music?

A. I took a lot from Michael. When you work with someone like that, you see the whole thing. He embodies what an artist is. Seeing him work with the band, his movements and his stage direction to the director, and seeing his dream and vision come to life on stage was so inspiring for me. It just showed me the possibility of what you can do with artistry, and there’s no limit to it. He just kept pushing the boundaries and was just creating magic on stage. I went in as more of a singer, but I came out of that experience with such a deeper understanding of what it means to be an artist. I started thinking about the bigger picture and how I can make my show amazing and how I can add a visual aspect to it; how I can connect with people. Michael really inspired me in that way.
Q. When did you start singing and entertaining?

A. I started singing when I was four. My parents were both musicians so I grew up in a very musical family, and I never stopped. It was always a part of my life. I don’t remember ever not singing. My parents did push me to pursue a musical career. I kind of fought it in my late elementary/junior high years, because Mom and dad telling me to do it . But I found it to be the only thing that I really loved, especially at the end of junior high. I’ve always sung and I’ve always recorded in a studio. I went to college and I studied music composition, which was probably the best four years of my life. Music just opened up my eyes to a lot of stuff.

Q. What propelled you to tryout for "The Voice"?

A. A lot of people were encouraging me saying, “You should go on ‘The Voice’. It’s perfect for you.” I had my reservations from the beginning. When I thought about it, it was more like “How more exciting is it to go on television and do what you do; do what you love?” Especially in the format of cover songs it is really good because you really do discover your style, what song works best for you and how you can make it your own. It became a very good experience for me and I learned a lot about who I am as an artist, and I also got to play up things that I love. Before "The Voice" I was working on music and getting one-off gigs and little tour dates. I was doing a lot of background. I was a background singer for Stevie Wonder. I did that up until I went on "The Voice".

Q. What has the show done for your career?

A. It's amazing how many people watch the show. A lot of people gave me gig offers, and I signed with William Morris. I did the Josh Groban tour and signed with Sony. It really helped me take my career to the next level.

Q. How did you end up opening for Josh Groban?

A. I sang on Josh's latest record. I got a chance to meet with him. I did a couple of shows: Jimmy Kimmel and Ellen with him to promote his single. It was a really good experience and then I went on "The Voice" and in the process doing that I signed with an agent, William Morris who works with Josh. I had a lot of mutual friends with Josh. The agent was able to put me on the tour, and it worked out because Josh knew me from the record. All of the pieces just came together.

Q. What can people expect from your debut solo album?

A. I'm putting out EPs. The first EP, people can expect it to be a very wintery, kind of a holiday EP with inspirational messages and it’s very vocally driven music, but very soulful with themes of world music in it. What I want to do is take people on a journey and show that side of me and show the up-tempo, energy side of me, which will be on the next EP. But for this first EP, they can expect it to be very seasonal music and very lush and warm soul-driven music.

Q. What can people expect when seeing you live at a show?

"The Voice" was an opportunity to show people a different side of me, especially in performing. My show is definitely going to be a lot of that stuff, but in my own original music. The show has a lot of different sides of me. I start with Ballads and go into really up-tempo, fun music and soul songs. I really love the stage. It's like a playground for me. It’s really fun and energetic. I’ll be playing the piano as well. We like to do a lot of different things live.

Q. Have you ever been to Chicago? What are your favorite parts about the city?

A. I have been to Chicago once. I fell in love with the city. Unfortunately I only got to stay for a day. I walked around the downtown area. I really enjoyed it and I wish I could have spent more time there. I’m really excited to get back and perform there. The architecture is just so beautiful.

Judith was good enough for Michael Jackson but yet she still had to audition for The Voice? Goes to show how pathetic the music industry has become

i love judith so much, soulful and beautiful voice. should have won, wonderful and beautiful lady

Judith was good enough for Michael Jackson but yet she still had to audition for The Voice? Goes to show how pathetic the music industry has become

In one of her video interviews before her TWYMMF performance she said she didn't wanna rely on TTI & Memorial credits alone. She wanted to work herself. Which is a fair point. At least she's not trying to capitalise on Michael's name to get ahead.

I will always be thankful to Judith Hill for showing the world that Michael could still belt it out, his voice was still electrifying, 'cause this ain't no lip synching coming from Michael J!

Judith's career keeps getting better and better. Being handpicked by Michael not only led to "20 feet from Stardom", a movie soundtrack with Spike Lee, a spot on the Voice-now this:

PRINCE LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN FOR HIS NEW PROTEGE

d31eb8e223104a7c2bcefc3545683b9c17827c8d.jpg

New York (AFP) - The endorsement was prestigious, if unconventional. Prince has produced the debut album of R&B singer Judith Hill and has launched a personal campaign to promote it.

The Purple One sent a message to music journalists on Monday asking them to listen to Hill's album, "Back in Time," which will come out shortly.

The email featured a baby picture of the 31-year-old Hill -- best known for her performance on the television singing contest "The Voice" -- playing a toy piano.

"Loox like her parents, who r also musicians- had a plan. Well, that plan succeeded," wrote Prince, whose spelling is often idiosyncratic.

"Back in Time," recorded with Prince at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota, stays true to its name by opening with a scratchy record snippet on "When Trains Go By" followed by a funky bassline.

The album shows further identifiable signs of Prince's rhythms on tracks such as "Wild Tonight" and the more pop "Angel in the Dark."

But Hill, once chosen as a backup singer to Michael Jackson, shows the full richness of her voice on stripped-back, old-fashioned R&B songs such as "Cry, Cry, Cry."

Prince first played the album on Sunday when he invited a handful of reporters from Minneapolis-area news organizations, with hours' notice, to take the icy roads to Paisley Park for a special event.

According to the Star Tribune, Prince said he learned of Hill when watching a video in which she said she would like to work with him.

He met her last year in Los Angeles and agreed to produce her when she cited the pioneering funk band Sly and the Family Stone as a musical influence, according to the daily.

The City Pages alternative weekly said that Prince asked the reporters for advice on how to share Hill's album with the world and seemed unfamiliar with Spotify, the growing online streaming service.

Prince remains prolific at age 56 and last year released two albums simultaneously, one with his all-female collaborating band 3rdEyeGirl.

He is on a "tour" of the United States in which he is announcing shows at the last minute.

He started the "Hit and Run Tour" this month in Louisville, Kentucky, where he played four shows over two days that featured his classics such as "Let's Go Crazy," "Little Red Corvette," "1999" and "Kiss."

Glad Prince supports her.
I am just amazed at this gift Michael had for noticing talent and appreciating talent-think of the different people he plucked from obscurity in the past-Sheryl Crowe, Siedah, almost Lauryn Hill (love that story).
And there are a ton of artists that I would never have heard of or loved, had he not talked about his admiration for them.

What is that?
I'm going by memory, so I can't remember the name of the guy telling the story. He worked for Michael at the time. But Michael was watching "Sister Act" and before it was over, had this guy on the phone, raved about Lauryn, told him to find her and sign her immediately to his MJJC label.
Unfortunately, Lauryn has just signed with the Fugees, and the contract either couldn't be broken or she felt some loyalty to the group.

It just goes to show you that when I saw Sister Act, I thought Lauryn was really good, forgot all about her, and the next time I saw her, she was posing for pictures with an armful of Grammys.

I also heard he did some similar raving about Jennifer Hudson.

It always surprised me how Michael Jackson picked her but The Voice didn't. Much like Chris Grant (post This It It) auditioning for So You Think You Can Dance (twice I believe) and never making it to the Top 20. Tough business indeed :/

Sony Bosses Launch Legal Action Against Prince

March 27, 2015

Sources: Contact News | All Things Michael
In a new lawsuit, the music executives allege the Purple Rain hitmaker disregarded the fact Judith Hill was signed exclusively to Sony and recorded a top secret album with her.

According to documents, obtained by TMZ.com, Hill, who appeared alongside the late King of Pop in his This Is It concert movie and then went on to appear on U.S. TV talent show The Voice, is currently working with Jolene Cherry, the producer who discovered Lady Gaga, under Sony’s supervision.

Despite warnings, Prince allegedly recorded an entire album with Hill and released the tracks as free Internet downloads at the beginning of the week (23Mar15).

Sony bosses and Cherry are demanding damages.

http://vallieegirl67.com/2015/03/27/sony-bosses-launch-legal-action-against-prince/

Apparently, Judith filed her lawsuit first. She signed with Jolene Cherry and Sony, but they did nothing with her. This article from the Hollywood Reporter goes into more detail, also talking about that weird episode about North Korea and the song Judith supposedly wrote for that movie and Judith says that smeared her reputation.

Apparently, Cherry (and by default, Sony) weren't doing anything with her, so she's suing them for fraud and went with Prince. Good for her.

After Judith Glory Hill sues her record label for fraud, Jolene Cherry responds with a lawsuit against Prince for interference.

Judith Glory Hill, a singer who became prominent as a contestant on The Voice after performing backup vocals for artists such as Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Michael Jackson, is the subject of two lawsuits filed this week.

In one, the music company run by Jolene Cherry is blaming superstar artist Prince for allegedly interfering in a contractual relationship and damaging prospects for Cherry's first album by releasing it digitally for free.
According to the complaint filed in L.A. Superior Court on Friday, Hill signed an exclusive recording agreement with a joint venture between Sony and The Cherry Party after appearing on The Voice in 2013. Cherry, a talent scout who takes credit for discovering Lady Gaga, says her relationship with Sony was later restructured and that The Cherry Party became a successor-in-interest to rights under the recording agreement.
Hill's deal is said to have required the singer to make four albums, but prior to the restructuring, there were rumors that she was meeting with Prince.
Cherry says that she rejected Hill's request to record and release an album with Prince and earlier this month, sent Hill a warning that working with Prince would violate the recording agreement.
According to the lawsuit, "The Cherry Party is informed and believes, and on that basis alleges, that Hill and Prince boldly and inexplicably ignored these warnings (and the law) and continued to proceed. Indeed, not only did Hill and Prince finish an album of 11 songs, but they also played that music for a group of reporters and then proceeded to release it on the Internet as a free digital download."
The complaint adds that Live Nation later tweeted, "#NewMusicTuesday gift from Prince to YOU! Check out @Judith_Hill's debut album 'BACK IN TIME'"
Now that this has happened and the press is "flooded with articles labeling Prince as Hill's 'producer' and the album Back in Time as 'his project,' " Cherry has filed a complaint alleging intentional interference with contractual relations. Represented by attorney Larry Stein, the plaintiff is demanding compensatory and punitive damages for making "it economically unfeasible for them to ever release Hill's 'first album' or their recordings of songs … which Hill had already recorded for The Cherry Party."
A spokesperson for Prince wasn't immediately available for comment, but Hill herself filed a lawsuit earlier in the week against Cherry that provides a different version of what occurred.
In her lawsuit, lodged in New York Supreme Court, the singer says that after the record deal was signed, Sony cut ties with Cherry, who "proved to be incompetent, erratic, unstable and wholly unable to perform the obligations that Ms. Hill had been promised both orally and in writing."
Cherry allegedly had said she was "sick of the music business and all of its trash" and disappeared.
"Abandoned," says Hill, who also appeared in the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom. She did her own thing before Cherry attempted control.
It's also reported that Cherry wanted Sony to become interested in a Hill parody song titled "James Franco," timed for release of The Interview, and that after Sony got hacked, Cherry allegedly had an "imposter publicist" plant a story in the New York Post about the song.
On January 2, 2015, the newspaper ran a story headlined, "Sony singer writes 'love letter' to Kim Jong Un."
"No artist can be expected to perform for a label which intentionally smears its own artist's reputation and violates, without remorse, the artist's core believes," states Hill's complaint from Scott Himes of Ballard Spahr alleging defamation, fraud and breach of contract.

The original reporting in this case is wrong. Sony isn't suing Prince or Judith

Contrary to an erroneous TMZ report, Cherry's lawsuit is not associated with Sony Music, as the major label is suing neither Prince nor Hill. While Sony reps reportedly advised Prince against releasing Hill's album, according to Cherry's lawsuit, Sony has not filed any lawsuits in the Hill case and relinquished their stake in the joint enterprise they had with Cherry several months ago.

Ivy, her album was available for download and now it is not. Is Cherry behind the removal of her album download or LiveNation?

my understanding her free album download planned to be available for a limited time. It's still can be listened on soundcloud. other than that I can't answer.

On March 23rd, Live Nation subscribers received a message with the subject line "A Note From Prince." "Sorry 2 bother U," Prince wrote. "Please spend some time with this music and then share it with someone U love." The email was accompanied by a link to a free download of Back in Time that needed to be used by March 25th.
