Michael Jackson Has Biggest US Seller Again

Michael Jackson will have the biggest selling album in the USA this week after outselling last week`s Daughtry debut and doing better than Demi Lovato` debut this week.

Jackson ‘Number Ones’ has sold around 161,000 units in the past 7 days, well ahead if Demi Lovato at number two with 114,000 sales.

Daughtry debuted at number one last week with ‘Leave This Town’ but had a 63% drop in sales in week two to place him at 3 on sales of around 99,000, according to Hits Daily Double.

Jackson albums still dominate the chart. In the past week ‘Thriller’ did 75,000, ‘The Essential Michael Jackson’ sold 73,000, ‘Bad’ did 37,000, ‘Off The Wall’ sold 37,000 and ‘Dangeous’ did 32,000.

Jackson sold more than 400,000 units in America last week.

Meanwhile on the Australian chart, ‘The Essential Michael Jackson’ was still the biggest seller clocking up a further 19,000 sales.

French sculptor creates Michael Jackson's image in front of Pompidou Center

PARIS - French artist Jean-Baptiste Seckler is sculpting a public tribute to the late Michael Jackson in front of Paris' Pompidou Center.

Seckler says he wanted to sculpt outdoors to break "the silence and the concentration" required by sculpting or painting. He says a public place is appropriate for a sculture of the pop star because Jackson's death "affected everyone, whether you like him or not."

Seckler was working Tuesday on the likeness. He began the project July 25, four weeks after Jackson's death.

He says in an interview with Associated Press Television News that painters are often seen on the streets of Paris but rarely sculptors.

Michael Jackson set to overtake Eagles

Michael Jackson's "Thriller" is set to regain its throne as America's top-selling album of all time

Even before the King of Pop's untimely death last month, "Thriller" was closing the gap on The Eagles' "Their Greatest Hits," thanks to the 25th anniversary reissue last year and the reworked version of "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin"' with Akon. As of June, The Eagles, who took over the all-time top spot in 1999, had shipped 29 million units of their compilation, while Jackson had shipped 28 million copies of "Thriller."

After Jackson's death, sales of "Thriller" have been brisk, even moving 264,000 copies last week, which was more than all new releases. To meet the demand, stores have been clamoring for more copies of "Thriller," which will likely push its shipment totals to 30 million soon. That would mean Jackson would make history once again, becoming the first artist to get a triple-diamond certification.

"Thriller" — which featured seven Top 10 singles, including the No. 1 smashes "Billie Jean" and "Beat It" — is already the top-selling album in the world, with estimated global sales of more than 100 million since its first release in 1982.

About 500 Michael Jackson fans joined a flash-mob-style gathering and tribute to the late pop star at Camps de Mars Monday afternoon.

The crowd brought together Jackson fans of all ages, including Quebec Immigration Minister Yolande James and Jean-Ernest Célestin, the city’s only black police chief. They danced to Beat It, among other hits of the pop star, who died June 25.

There have been Michael Jackson tributes around the world since his death. Fans have organized them through the Facebook social networking site.

According to Facebook, there will be another tribute in Montreal Sunday at 3:30 p.m., with the location yet to be announced.

JACKSON FANS IN NOBEL PEACE PRIZE BIDMICHAEL JACKSON's fans have launched a campaign to land the late superstar a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
Websites have been bombarded by Jackson followers who are signing petitions to support the campaign because they feel he should be honoured for his "lifelong dedication to the well being of humanity".
More than 2,000 people have added their names to the list, which was started by a Los Angeles student who wants 100,000 to sign up.
In order for the King of Pop, who died from a cardiac arrest last month (25Jun09), to receive a nomination for the coveted award his name must be suggested by a Nobel Prize official - not members of the public.
But fans are refusing to be put off - and have until September (09) to convince organisers to accept a nomination for Thriller hitmaker.
The winner will be announced in October next year (10).

DICK GREGORY ON A MICHAEL JACKSON FAST: Activist will only drink water for 40 days until truth about singer's death is revealed.

Dick Gregory, long-time friend of the late Michael Jackson, announced Thursday that he will, "go on a fast on water only for 40 days until the truth is uncovered about the sudden death of Michael Jackson."

"It's hard on folks to lose a loved one, especially someone so young as Michael," Gregory said in a statement. "All I pray for now is that the truth will be told about what happened and I don't think it has been yet but people deserve to know."

Gregory added: "There's so much that has been kept secret under the pretense of what they call an 'ongoing investigation.'"

The activist-comedian vowed to continue a daily prayer vigil and invited all those who loved the King of Pop to join him in prayer and meditation for the truth to come out.

Jackson honored in Austria

Jermaine Jackson, brother of the late Michael Jackson, left, talks to US actress Andie MacDowell during a press conference of the 'Save the World Awards' in Vienna on Friday, July 24, 2009. The award is said to be the first global prize honoring people and organizations who campaign for the preservation of the world. Michael Jackson's brother says the King of Pop was a 'wonderful humanitarian' who considered it important to help others. Jackson commented at a news conference in the Austrian capital Friday just hours before he was due to attend a gala that will pay tribute to Michael Jackson's efforts to reach out to the less fortunate. American actress Andie MacDowell will host the evening event.

long live the king.

YES! LEGENDS NEVER DIE!LONG LIVE THE KING!

and this art is beautiful tbron! yes he's making money, but from another perspective too its true and sadly so. Everyone made money off him, almost everyone and they are continuing to do so. when they saw him, they saw dollar signs! He was and still is a cash machine for so many. It breaks my heart and makes me ashamed to be part of this evil world! But I'm sure Michael's rejoicing wherever he is! Now he knows he's the most loved, admired, respected person in the whole world and his fan base continues to grow! We love you Michael and are so very proud of you forever!

Superstars plan Jackson tribute album

Madonna, Beyonce Knowles and Mariah Carey are planning a Michael Jackson tribute album.

A host of the biggest music stars in the world are keen to acknowledge the late Billie Jean singer's contribution to pop by recording versions of his tracks for a new charity album.

Robbie Williams, Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross have also been linked to the LP, as has British schoolboy Shaheen Jafargholi - who was hand-picked to appear at last month's memorial concert for Michael, who died of a suspected cardiac arrest in June.

A source said: "The idea came from the memorial concert. Many fans asked if cover versions from it would be released, and it seemed a wonderful idea.

"This covers album is sure to be a massive worldwide hit with fans and could raise a fortune for Michael's favourite charities."

The assembled stars will pick their favourite tracks by the King of Pop to cover.

It is believed Mariah will reprise her version of I'll Be There from the memorial , while Shaheen will sing his version of Who's Loving You.

He has also reportedly been asked to record Michael's early smash Ben.

Robbie is apparently being lined up to sing Man In The Mirror, and other tracks expected to be on the album include Rock With You, She's Out Of My Life and Bad.

A tribute concert to Michael is also being planned in London - where he had been due to play 50 shows starting this summer and running into 2010 - on the date of what would have been his 51st birthday, August 29.

Robbie Williams pens down song about Michael Jackson

Robbie Williams pens down song about Michael Jackson

London, Aug 4 : English singer Robbie Williams has written down a song about Michael Jackson as a tribute to the late King of Pop.

'Michael Jackson died. It's all so very sad. I couldn't get a lyric to fit on one of the new songs, so when he passed away, I rewrote it with him in mind,' femalefirst.co.uk quoted Robbie Williams as saying.

Jackson died June 25.

The 35-year-old pop star also admits he took help from lyricist Don Black.

'I was having a tough time with lyrics for a little while. Nothing would come out. Don kindly came in and gave me a helping hand, I'm honoured,' Williams said.

The album is all set to release later this year

MICHAEL JACKSON STILL DOMINATING CHARTS: 'Number Ones' still leads Billboard's Comprehensive Albums tally.

*For the fifth straight week following his June 25 death, Michael Jackson continues to dominate the recording charts.

According to Nielsen Soundscan, the King of Pop notched 447,000 album sales and 433,000 digital song downloads for the week ended July 26, reports Billboard.com.

Jackson has averaged sales of roughly 667,400 unit sales per week over the last five weeks, which would essentially represent a high-water mark for most current top-sellers debuting an LP. Jackson's "Number Ones" album led Billboard's Comprehensive Albums chart, which tracks both new releases and catalog albums, with 154,390 units sold, compared with Demi Lovato's "Here We Go Again," which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Current Albums chart, with 108,436 units sold.

Overall, discs by Jackson, including the Jackson 5's "Ultimate Collection," commanded seven spots of the top 20 bestselling albums.

In the continuing rush by Michael Jackson fans to celebrate his musical legacy, sales of his most popular songs and albums have set records since his unexpected death in June.

But for the more hardcore historians, it’s meant digging deeper to find the most obscure and often unreleased material possible. In the case of the “The Unheard Music” blog, that search has uncovered a trove of studio demos for Jackson’s legendary “Thriller” album produced by Quincy Jones -- the famed recording that won the Grammy for album of the year.

While many longtime fans have been collecting these versions for years, for the rest of us it’s a fascinating and ultimately rewarding glimpse into the inner workings of a classic.

There are songs that didn’t make the final cut, like “Hot Street,” which houses a potentially great chorus amid dated synthesizer sounds, and a solid if relatively pedestrian ballad, “Carousel.” An early take on “Billie Jean” stands out due to a bleating keyboard bass line instead of the cool funk of the final version.

From there it dives into random outtakes and studio detritus, such as a vocal snippet from a song called “Groove of Midnight” that features Jackson and an engineer discussing his hair growth (Jackson shouts out Sebastian hair products). There’s even a clip of “Starlight,” which was the original title of “Thriller” before Jackson decided it needed to be something catchier.

But the real find here . . .

. . .is “Love Never Felt So Good,” a fantastic song that features a multi-tracked Jackson singing over just a piano and finger snaps. It’s a classic vocal performance, rich with his trademark emotion and percussive singing style. It’s truly baffling how this song was never developed further or simply released as is.

Altogether, this collection of demos is an intriguing glimpse into the blueprints of the bestselling album of all time.

Thanks for the World Album Chart, tbron! Those numbers are AMAAAZING!!

I hope that this avg keeps up for some time now. Everyone in the world needs to own a few Michael Jackson albums! LOL!

Also, that tribute album sounds interesting. I just hope it's quality and not quantity they go for. I am sure it will turn out good if it gets off the ground. Ugh, is Sony going to be the distributor though?

Jackson's 'Thriller' sold another 2 million in six weeks
Friday, August 7, 2009
by Fred Chuchel, Dresden

There's a chance that 'Thriller' grows up to the bestselling album of the year 2009. It would be the first time that an album leads the year-end chart for a third time (after 1983 and 1984). At the moment it
ranks at no.3 in the year-to-date chart, behind U2's 'No Line On The Horizon' and Lady GaGa's 'The Fame'. On the weekly tally 'Thriller' holds tight at no.1 with sales of 227.000 copies, 21% less compared to previous week. Michael Jackson's 'The Essential' flip-flops with 'Number Ones'. This week 'Number Ones' (no.3, 188.000 copies) falls just behind 'The Essential' (no.2, 191.000 copies).

LL Cool J Releases Michael Jackson Tribute 'Billie Jean Dream'

'Michael Jackson wrote that for me in a dream,' MC claims.

Iced-out glove on a Bentley wheel? Picture Michael Jackson rolling. LL Cool J raps from the perspective of the King of Pop on a new freestyle that came out

Monday called "Billie Jean Dream (Michael Jackson Tribute)." Giving new meaning to the term ghost writer, one of rap's all-time greatest MCs tells listeners at the end of the record that the late singer gave him inspiration while he slept.

"The crazy thing is, I had a dream. Michael Jackson wrote that for me in a dream. That's crazy, right? I had a dream, and homeboy wrote it for me in a dream. I saw it on a paper. I woke up and just jotted it all down on paper. Michael Jackson, that's for you, baby. I love you."

In the verse, Cool J raps over Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" beat.

"Number one in the world, imagine how it feels to hit up Sony for a billion on a deal," the Queens legend rhymes. "Buy out the Beatles, tell Paul to chill / Too live to talk, y'all read it in my will/... There's one King of Pop, nothing else poppin' off, comparing him to me, oh, please knock it off/ All of y'all emanating from one source/ Try to imitate it, but you can't pull it off.

"Hold my umbrella, give me some support," LL adds. "While I dance on the roof of the truck after court/ Can't pull me down, I don't know what y'all thought."

In addition to releasing the track, the rapper announced a Michael Jackson tribute contest on his Web site, . Fans are encouraged to write their own MJ tribute songs, remix classic Jackson tracks or create music videos, and the winners will be promoted on the site.

Promoter: Michael Jackson tribute to be televised globally

VIENNA — Next month's tribute to Michael Jackson on the grounds of a 17th century palace in Vienna will feature a three-hour, star-studded show to be televised live to a global audience of 1 billion people, the event promoter said today.

Georg Kindel of World Awards Media GmbH said negotiations are ongoing with networks over rights to broadcast what's being billed as Jackson's main global tribute, and the pop legend's brother Jermaine is assembling the lineup of about 10 "of the biggest artists of our time."

"Jermaine thinks maybe 1 billion people will watch the television show," Kindel said in an interview with The Associated Press. "It will be a very special evening for the millions of fans around the globe."

He wouldn't divulge the cast, although he hinted strongly that Madonna would be among the artists performing 15-20 Jackson hits on a crown-shaped outdoor stage in front of Schoenbrunn Palace. Austrian media have reported that U2, Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston also may perform.

"I don't even know myself" who will take the stage, Kindel said.

The event will be held in the second half of September, he said. Organizers have pledged to announce the date and lineup soon. Tickets go on sale Aug. 20.

Kindel said the show — conceived amid a flurry of events honoring Jackson since his death June 25 in Los Angeles — also will feature family members and unidentified Hollywood stars reminiscing as

images and video clips of Jackson are screened.

"It will be about Michael Jackson the man and the humanitarian," he said, adding that a "significant portion" of the proceeds will benefit several charities, including the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, which helps patients who can't afford heart surgery.

Kindel said the tribute originally was planned for London's Wembley Stadium on Aug. 29, which would have been Jackson's 51st birthday, but that Jermaine Jackson decided instead on Vienna. The singer had been rehearsing for a series of London concerts at the time of his death.

Kindel said the switch took him by surprise: "Everyone was expecting it would be staged maybe in London or New York or Los Angeles," he said.

Explaining Vienna as a venue, Jermaine Jackson told "Larry King Live" on Friday that his brother loved the city and "loved castles."

After Kindel organized a Jackson remembrance held last month outside a mothballed nuclear power plant west of Vienna, Jermaine Jackson spent a few hours touring Schoenbrunn, which his brother also had visited.

"He was really fascinated and said, 'This is a really royal and ideal place for such a tribute to Michael,'" Kindel told the AP.

The majestic yellow palace and its sprawling, sculpted gardens are nothing like Los Angeles' Staples Center, where a big Jackson memorial was held last month, Kindel said.

"You can't compare it with a real historic palace which was built hundreds of years ago," he said in his downtown Vienna office.

"This is not Disneyland," Kindel said. But he added: "There's a zoo, there are parks ... I think (Michael Jackson) would like the site. It's a little bit like Neverland, but much bigger."
