Long live the king

i just want to let you guys know i just counted the sales of michael's albums from media traffic since...and he has sold 10,131,000 albums(if you include j5 i do because people aint buying them for tito lol). keep in mind they don't track every country and that the chart does not show low salers so if botdf sold 10,000 it won't show up which means mj's sales are even higher.also these are just album sales not downloads and singles which would make it higher as well.

Michael was a genius, is no doubt that new people are discovering him now, his artistic side was almost completely hidden, now everybody is seeing why Michael Jackson was/is the most famous man in the entire world, so is very natural, people are not stupid if they see genius on something they will buy it, specially musicians, music lovers, etc

Michael is back at #1 in the US this week again! He also holds the #3 and #4 positions as well as 6 other titles in the top 50. Go MJ!

Thank you for your information again tbron and smoothcriminal05!

I love reading how Michael's albums have been doing in the US and other areas in the world. It's quite a phenomenon, IMO.

New Jackson song, CD set for release

NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- The first new Michael Jackson song to emerge since the U.S. pop icon died in June is to be released next month, Sony Music said Wednesday.

The single, "This Is It," is set for release Oct. 12.

Sony Music Entertainment's Columbia/Epic Label Group is scheduled to release the two-disc album, "This Is It," featuring the music that inspired Sony Pictures' forthcoming film, "Michael Jackson's This Is It," later in the month. The set will be available internationally Oct. 26 and in North America Oct. 27 to coincide with the worldwide release of the motion picture Oct. 28.

The documentary, which is expected to run in theaters for a two-week engagement, features footage of Jackson rehearsing for a series of comeback concerts that were to have taken place in London. Jackson died at 50 shortly before his "This Is It" residency at the O2 arena was to have begun.

"This song only defines, once again, what the world already knows -- that Michael is one of God's greatest gifts," John McClain, co-producer of the "This Is It" album, said in a statement.

Disc 1 will feature the original album masters of some of Jackson's biggest hits arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film. The disc ends with two versions of the never-released, "This Is It," which is featured in the film's closing sequence and includes backing vocals by Jackson's brothers.

Disc 2 offers previously unreleased versions of some of the artist's classic tracks. This disc also features a touching spoken word poem from Jackson titled "Planet Earth" that has never been heard before, Sony said.

Michael Jackson Bigger Than New Moon, Miley? Yup

Edward Cullen has met his match: Michael Jackson.

Since going on sale Sunday, tickets for Jackson's This Is It have been selling hotter than, well, Robert Pattinson's vampire.

Fandango said the concert movie was its new top-seller, ousting The Twilight Saga: New Moon. MovieTickets.com said it had already recorded more than 550 sellouts. And to put a global point on it, Sony Pictures bragged about big business from Britain to Japan.

This Is It opens Oct. 28, if you don't count sneaks on Oct. 27. Sony says the movie, culled from rehearsals for the late Jackson's not-to-be London shows, will play only two weeks.

And if the limited-engagement line sounds familiar, then perhaps you've rushed to buy tickets to a concert movie before…

Last year, Disney billed Miley Cyrus' Best of Both Worlds show as a one-week-only event. Then the film scored a $31 million opening weekend, and one week turned into 15. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus became the top-grossing concert movie of all time.

So far.

While it's still early, This Is It is on track to top Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus. During its first three days of sales, Fandango said, Jackson's film outpaced Cyrus' first three days by a wide three-to-one margin.

The stat's a good reminder that even a pop phenom like Cyrus, or Pattinson, isn't the pop phenom.

Mobo awards honour Michael Jackson

GLASGOW (AFP) – British acts dominated the honours at the annual Mobo awards ceremony for music of black origin, which this year paid tribute to the late King of Pop Michael Jackson.

London Hip hop trio N-Dubz scooped the awards for Best Album and Best Act, while JLS, finalists in Britain's X Factor talent television talent show, won gongs for Best Newcomer and Best Song for their number one hit "Beat Again."

US superstar Beyonce won the Best International award as well as Best Video for her hit "Single Ladies," although she was not able to receive it personally at the ceremony in Glasgow.

Jackson, who died in June, was honoured with tributes including from his sister La Toya and brother Jermaine.

"He was a wonderful artist and a wonderful human being ..My brother was everything to me," said Jermaine Jackson, who performed "Smile", Jackson's favourite song

Michael Jackson was a hell of a singer.

only say this because to the casual music fan, it might not be apparent. Whether it was because so much about him — his dance moves, his style, his swagger — was so dynamic, or because he rarely spoke above a whisper, or even because he frequently peppered his verses with vocal ticks (like those oft-imitated "Hee-hee's"), Jackson remains one of the most underrated vocal artists in music history.

And that's a shame, because his voice was a wondrous thing, capable of reaching both towering heights (the final verse of "Rock With You") and depths ("Childhood"). It was technical, but it was also decidedly human, too, full of pump-priming rage ("Man in the Mirror") one minute, tethered tenderness the next ("She's Out of My Life"). It was a finely tuned instrument that, when unfurled, revealed all the pain and frustration and joy of Jackson's life ... a window inside the man's soul. It could stop you in your tracks and raise the hair on the back of your neck. It was something to behold.

But don't take my word for it. Just listen to "This Is It," the title track to Jackson's posthumous concert-film/double album that premiered at midnight on Monday (October 12). Because if anything, it's reinforcement of my original point: Jackson was a powerhouse vocalist.

The origins of the song may remain cloudy — it was reportedly written in 1980, in the fertile period between Jackson's Off the Wall and Thriller albums, and recorded in the mid-to-late '80s, in between the Bad and Dangerous albums — but really, none of that really matters: "This Is It" is a prime showcase for Jackson's prodigious pipes, which means that the best way to experience it — indeed, the best way to pay tribute to the man and his music — is to turn the volume up, sit back, and just listen.

Ignore the trilling strings, and the soft-jazz/light-funk backing track (which sort of make the song sound like Off the Wall's "I Can't Help It.") Block out the hype surrounding the song's release and the drama surrounding Jackson's death. Focus on those vocals — the way Jackson counts it in with a boyish "one, two, three, four," the way he glides from verse to verse with breathless, effortless phrasing, the lean-yet-heavy falsetto, the hint of gravel (and gravitas) is the verses, the soaring choruses — it's all there, untarnished by time or tabloids. And it's all wonderful.

In a lot of ways, "This Is It" might be the perfect Michael Jackson tune. And by that I mean, while it's by no means his best, or his most memorable, it might be his most representative. It's a mixture of his yearning early years and his messianic later period, and it shines a light on the best aspects of both: His voice.

Because, just in case you weren't aware, Michael Jackson was a hell of a singer
