MJ and Queen world premiere!!!!!!!!!!!

^ Freddie did say the llama thing (I don't think he said anything about chimps, LOL) but I think that was a tongue in cheek remark. I don't think that's the real reason they haven't finished the tracks. They were just probably both too busy with other things and drifted away.

That Llama thing actually came out from Jim Beach's mouth. I just find it highly unbelievable that MJ drags in the studio a llama that is nearly as big as horse, but Bubbles being in the studio is nothing new.

Yeah, that guy - Jim Beach said it, NOT Freddie, so we can't possibly know if that's true. But I doubt it because, like you said, it's highly unlikely. He just wanted to praise Freddie and to show MJ as a weirdo, as always.

And even if Bubbles was in the studio, that was not the reason why the songs weren't finished. They worked in MJ's studio for just 1 day and after that they remained in contact and remained in good relation, as Freddie said in many interviews.

Good little interview. Speaking of llamas, I remember way back in the day reading Michael threw Freddie out for doing cocaine at Hayvenhurst and spilling it on the carpet. Haha.
Don't remember where that story came from. I read it 30 yrs ago.

I believe more in Freddie's personal assistant, Peter Freestone than Freddie's manager TBH. The original link is not available anymore but this is Peter's account when Michael and Freddie worked together in the studio.

The first time I met Michael Jackson was backstage at The Forum in Los Angeles in early July 1980. He was at the QUEEN show that evening and came to see the band afterwards. He spent time with John Deacon and they talked about ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ which Michael says must be a single. He also spent time with Freddie. He was 22 years old and was like an excited teenager. He had really enjoyed the show and was still ‘up’ from it.

The next time was a couple of years later when Freddie had been invited to Michael’s house in Encino, just north of Hollywood. We arrived at the house, having passed a security tower at the gate. We got out of the car at a mock Tudor mansion, bricks at the lower level, and white stucco and wooden beams above. Michael came to greet us with a big smile, obviously proud of his house. Before we could go in, he insisted we accompany him on a tour of the grounds. I will never forget Freddie Mercury walking through mud, wearing white jeans and white tennis shoes, talking to llamas! We were shown all the animals and taken down to a pond where Michael had swans. Michael had a real love for these animals and birds; they were part of ‘his family’, as Freddie’s friends were part of his.
Michael took us into the house. I don’t know how many rooms there were in it. I do know that Michael lived there with his mother, Katherine, his two sisters, Latoya and Janet, and there were rooms for guests should anybody stay over. As we entered Michael’s bedroom, I was struck by three things, that gave an insight to Michael.. All around the room, on the floor were his gold and platinum awards for ‘Thriller’. They obviously meant a lot to him, he kept them close, but he didn’t need to show them to the world, he didn’t need to show everybody how good he was. The second thing was the large terrarium along one wall containing his snake. Much had been made in the press about this favourite creature, and he was in Michaels’s room, but under heavy planks of wood kept in place with many bricks. He may have been a ‘friend’, but kept very securely. Third and last was- in the middle of the room was a king-size mattress on the floor.
Freddie asked Michael “where is the bed? You have enough money to buy one!” Michael’s reply “when I sleep I like to sleep close to the earth”,
“But we are up on the first floor!” retorted Freddie.
We were shown through many rooms including a film room which had a vast library of films where I watched one, while Freddie and Michael worked, joined by Janet. Another wonderful situation was when Freddie was in the toilet, Michael took me to his video games room and we played the early version of table tennis. There were two players, one black and the other white. We started playing and Michael was the one who pointed out that we were playing the opposite colours – “I’m playing the white and you’re playing the black!”
On the way to the studio at the back of the ground floor we were taken through the kitchen where we were introduced to Katherine, Michael’s mother. She was very kind and hospitable. When Freddie asked for an ashtray, she produced a jam jar lid, as no one in the house smoked!
The work comprised of a Michael track, ‘State of Shock’, which only needed another vocal, which Freddie happily provided. When they had finished it really only needed mixing, but sadly after this session time was the enemy and Freddie and Michael never had free time together, so Michael got Mick Jagger to put his vocal on this and it was released in this form.
The next was a Freddie piece he was just working on at this time. There was a piano tune and Freddie had come up with a few words. Freddie sat at the piano and let Michael try the singing. Where there were no words written Freddie told Michael to ad-lib, which he did with words about love.
Michael then ordered in some food for us all. There were these large platters of cold meats, salads, bread, and fruit. We started in, but Michael wouldn’t touch any as he was a strict vegetarian at the time and would only have food made by his mother.
Work was started on a third track with a working title ‘Victory’. There was only one technician in the studio. There were no instruments set up and no musicians. Freddie and Michael worked in much the same way. At the start of a track they need a drum track to keep the beat, and then they add music and instruments to this. Michael had a clever idea for the bass drum beat. He and Freddie were in the control room with the technician and I spent 5 minutes banging a toilet door in perfect time!! Somewhere in Michael’s vaults there is a tape of me!!
The studio was a place of work for both Freddie and Michael, but watching them you could also imagine two children in a play room. Both of them would throw their hands in the air and burst out laughing when either of them made a mistake, but it really was a serious business too. Thinking back now to this time watching these two masters of their craft were together in one place putting this music together, gives me goose bumps.

Who was Michael Jackson for me? I met a beautiful young man. He and Freddie had much in common. He was confident, and already an incredible musician and performer. He was a resourceful technician and a considerate human being. He never once treated me any differently than he did Freddie. He thought of others in situations even though it might have had nothing to do with him. In the few conversations I had with him, I got the impression that he had few friends. He was working almost all of the time and had many professional connexions and associates. Maybe he was already a bit lonely, having to have so much security at that early age, and having to resort to bringing indoors the entertainment anyone else his age could go out for. He was only 3 years younger than me, but still hadn’t grown up! He still wanted so many of the simple things in life to bring him happiness, but did find some peace with his animals.

That's a very nice story indeed but I'm a little confused about the timeline. Didn't Freddie and Michael work prior to thriller? Yet he said that he saw platinum awards for Thriller in his room..

i thought the tracks were worked on in 1983?

Ugggggh I really hope they do a much better job with State of Shock and Victory. I prefer their vocals on SoS and it could do well with the popular Queen rock style. Plus, if it actually sounds good and we hear Michael and Freddie properly duet just as MJ and Mick Jagger do, it could actually do rather well. I've seen a solid number of Queen fans uninterested in this release, saying that they'll just buy the two new Queen songs on iTunes and that they can do without the MJ duet (though it doesn't help Brian May made it sound like a whole new album of unreleased material).

I'm not sure what to think about Victory, I haven't even played The Jacksons version so I haven't the slightest clue of what it's like (I'm saving it for when the duet is eventually released, that way it's completely brand new!).

They (Queen) won't be the one doing and releasing State of Shock & Victory. If Estate wanted it to be like that, they would allow them to release it now. If Queen members allow, we'll hear the songs on future Michael Jackson releases, maybe on the new album of unreleased material or on some kind of Thriller re-release.

There is no Jacksons version of Victory. The song is unreleased. Michael just used the title for the album Victory but there is no song Victory on that album.

Ooh ok! So it'll be new for everyone then. Wonderful :D

In the interview Onir posted Freddie said he'd "kil"l Michael if he used the song Victory without him. They couldn't finish none of the 3 songs because as Peter said, time was their enemy and they couldn't get together again to finish them.

Danish newspaper (tabloid) gave the album 2 stars with the headline (my translate) "Michael Jackson duet can't save the no-matter Queen collection" - 2 out of 6 stars

Michael Jackson duet can not save forgettable Queen collection
There has been talked and written a lot about Freddie Mercury ' forgotten ' duet with Michael Jackson There Must Be More To Life Than This' .

The song is one of three ' new ' tracks on the collection ' Queen Forever ' , published Monday - Perfectly timed to Christmas sales . And let me put it briefly : ' save your money ' .

Thus, ' There Must Be More To Life Than This' , originally from Freddie Mercury anything but impressive solo album ' Mr. Bad Guy ' , not least helped by Jackson's uninspired guest vocals

Uninspired guest vocals? Are they even awere this was a demo? (And even so I don't think it's uninspired.)

Well that's the problem with releasing demos. Nobody outside these forums will know it, they will presume it's just an unreleased single. Critics will just get the album sent to them to review.

That's why Xscape was done really well with the deluxe version, it was obvious what was updated & what was demos & they could see the transition from A to B.

Seems like they did not wanna say anything positive.

In a Queen review they used MJ's name in a negative way... - disgusting. - BUT I agree the album is not worth the money, and like he writes in the interview instead of buying this album people should buy some of QUEENS old albums.

If the track was released as we heard it the first time, William Orbit did a horrendous job with the mix, both of them sounded horrible. Michael's demo version sounds absolutely beautiful and moving. If that critic heard it, he wouldn't dare to call the vocals uninspiring.

I love MJ's vocals in it - only it's too bad they drown a bit in the production... :(

Well, at least we can see not only MJ's record label can put out controversial releases.

I will continue to listen to MJ's demo and the fanmade duet. Not hyped up at all about Orbit's remix. And although I'm a casual Queen fan I have no interest in this album.

I heard the new track in CD quality. The quality is expectibly better than the radio rip. But it's still grating on my ears in some parts, especially after Michael's solo. The last third of the song is just a big production mess. There's still the volume difference like heard on the radio version but it sounds slightly better on CD. I do love the clear sound of Michael's solo part, his voice is perfection.

The songs were recorded by Just Freddie though as a solo artist, not with Queen. Therefore it would be up to Jim Beach (Freddie's estate executor) to allow the releases to go ahead, which I am sure he would.

Anyway, as disappointed I am with the song I still like it. William Orbit has taken all the goodness out of the whole situation by releasing a sub par production though. Last verse is cat.

Yeah, but only demo on Xscape was Love Never Felt So Good. All other songs were not demos, but vocally finished unreleased songs.

Yeah, I agree. But I'd say that it's a lot better than radio rip. I'm listening to it for a few days now and I absolutely love it. New instrumental is beautiful. I just wish there is more MJ in it.

to be honest, i prefer Let Me In Your Heart Again! the mix for TMBMTLTT is a let down, the snippet in A Great Pretender sounds better

The song was first worked on for Queen's 1982 album Hot Space, then Freddie took the song to work on it with MJ at Encino in 1983. Then again he worked on it with Queen for their 1984 album The Works and finally he released it on his solo 1985 album Mr. Bad Guy. - That is according to Queen members. So I guess that both Queen members and Freddie's estate executor had a say for TMBMTLTT. But either way I assume they are in good relations.

Other 2 songs have nothing to do with Queen and that's why Estate probably said them no. State Of Shock was written by MJ and Victory was written by MJ and Freddie in 1983 at Encino and no one ever worked on that song again.

Sorry I meant to clarify I was referring to SOS and Victory. Yeah There Must Be More was dropped in favour of Is This The World We Created on The Works.

I do think Jim Beech would give the go ahead to the MJ estate for future releases- take a look at what Jim has done already- authorised remixes of Living on my Own, an expansive box set cataloging most Freddie outtakes known and also the re-recording of Barcelona.

Freddie said to Jim "I dont care what you do with my music, just never let me be boring!" so Im sure Jim would welcome future collaborations with the MJ Estate.

That being said, Freddie did record "Let me Live" with Rod Stewart, at least in Demo form and nothing has ever come from that. You just never know.

Regardless, whatever happens in future I want to ensure William Orbit is nowhere near the country in which it is being produced!!!

If Estate release it on an MJ album, it will probably be re-mixed or updated by John McClain. So you don't have to worry about that.
