I do not bit more believe this. You are talking about a MJ who go across racial, economic, cultural, US and foreign, age, etc of people buying his music unlike the Eagles. Sound like number manpulations.

I do not think it is so much about hate than about going after the BIG FISH which is MICHAEL JACKSON. If this is true, it wont last long after MJ's birthday and Holloween.

I agree with everything that you said. They have always tried to downplay Michael’s achievements, with this Eagles’ ruse. I have questioned this for YEARS. Thank God Michael had an army of fans who won’t let them get away with this crap. Love, love MJ family&#128525;&#128526;

Total appreciation and respect for THE EAGLES,and glad there's no negativity regarding what they've achieved over the years,but there was the SCREAM album,and the short film release of THRILLER,which would have got extra attention and sales,and it's NOT BEEN COUNTED?

I love the Eagles' Greatest Hits album (I can't tell you why... no, baby :listeningtomusic), but it always irked me as an MJ fan that their album was Nr. 1 in the USA. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there news recently that Thriller had surpassed the Eagles' Greatest Hits or was that wishful thinking/dreaming on my part?? I feel as if I've read a statement here on this forum not too long ago...

The Eagles Greatest Hits is the go-to album if you want to hear the Eagles hits (obviously) and because of that it will continue to sell and stream better than any of their studio albums IMO.

On the other hand, the need to buy the Thriller album has been diminished by the fact the most well known tracks are on MJ's hits albums. Those albums continue to sell, cannibalising the sales of the Thriller studio album. It's a sad fact but Thriller is at a disadvantage compared to Eagles Greatest Hits and that has been the case since 2003 at least when Sony started releasing too many hits packages...Number ones, The Essential, King Of Pop, The Ultimate Collection. I have said since before MJ died there is no need for so many packages. Number Ones sold very well when released and could have much, much higher sales now if it had not been hampered by other hits releases. We're talking MILLIONS more sales. Better to focus sales on a single product IMO.

If you're a casual fan or just have a passing interest in MJ you'll buy or stream one of those hits packages, NOT Thriller. If you're a casual Eagles fan you'll but their Greatest Hits. It's easy to see why they'll extend their lead over MJ in the years to come.

Soundscan have the real sales for the record, and that prove there are something real wrong with the RIAA system.

I think we should remember that the RIAA have with the Eagles a long love story, the first album RIAA have given the platinium certification, the year of their creation, was this compilation of the Eagles; in some way that have helped them to promote each others (sorry for my english).

There are also the new magical numbers for another Eagles album, Hotel California, who was at 16 millions there are one year ago, now 26 millions; we should look of the real sales with Soundscan Nielsen.

For the comparaison, Thriller album during the peak of Michael Jackson area, have sold juste one millions copies between 1985 and 1990 according the RIAA, after two years of 20 millions copies sold, that just a joke, and that not just for Michael Jackson, it seem the Bee Gees Saturday Night fever don't have been certified since...the early 80's in the USA:

Not to mention that Billie Jean and Beat It are probably the two most consistent batters for MJ when it comes to streams.

Michael Jackson's Estate is run by people who would make Michael burst into hysterical screams at the mere mention of their name. Michael actively investigated them for embezzlement, proceeded to fire them and [MUCH] more. They have done nothing but whore Michael's image since he died, even lying about what put him in his early grave.

It is time they stand up and finally fight for the artist they killed and proceeded to make millions and millions of dollars off. The RIAA certifications need to update, and drastically.

Michael's legacy and achievements WILL FADE AWAY if you let these numbers continue to slip. The records are getting broken. He is no longer seen as miles ahead of everyone else. His dominance will fade and is beginning to.

I was going through MJ's certifications in Canada and its so incomplete its scary. Off The Wall hasn't been re-certified since 1980! Thriller since 1985, Bad since 1988, Dangerous since 1993, History since 1996, BOTDF since 1997, Invincible never at all, ZERO for Number Ones, Essential (despite these albums dominating the charts in the many weeks after MJ's death).

If you tally MJ's sales in Canada its just over 5 million albums sold, including Moonwalker which is triple platinum here. IMO the actual number is much higher, probably well over 7+ million. Sony should really be re-certifying his catalogue, not just in the US but all over the world. Without the record label initiating the discussion it'll never happen.

Even in the US, they only certify Thriller mostly. Last year they certified Bad, but only to diamond (10X) when it should have been 11X platinum. Dangerous hasn't been certified since 2000, History since 1999, Off The Wall since 2009, Numbers Ones & Essential since 2013. All of these albums need to go up by at least one, some even two figures, but they don't care.
