^ cheers for that, i've never heard him talk before let alone heard any news on him in my lifetime. some intimate answers there - would be nice though to get more insight into his writing; borderline genius.

he killed on that recording.

He pretty much retired after his last album came out in the mid 1980s and became reclusive. I think he was tired of the business and wanted to spend time with his family. He said once that he didn't think he was relevant to where music was at the time and to where it was going. Unlike a lot of artists of his time, he owned his material, and it's remade and sampled a lot, so he doesn't really have to perform.

one of the finest remixes i've heard

Jill Scott - A Long Walk (Touch Of Jazz Remix)

found his 1971 LP yesterday shelved in a charity shop for £3

Raphael Saadiq's new track, Love That Girl.

looking forward to his new album, reportedly to include a collab with Stevie Wonder.

That shuffle beat made me think of 'Girl They Won't Believe It' by Joss Stone. He did produce that though.

imeem's taking the piss with the slow loading so this is the only place i found these:

That "Creepin'" is a Stevie cover, so I'm obligated to love it, but I'd like it anyway.

Also, that Raphael Saadiq track is great.... sorta reminds me of Smokey Robinson's "Double Good Everything", and he even sounded a tad like Smokey when he first started singing.

Thanks for bringing those to my attention.

I just found a GREAT Stevie cover by Eric Benet. The more I hear of his stuff the more I enjoy his work:

Eric used to sing with his sister in a group called Benet. They made one album. I have it, it's sort of a New Jack lite style. They did a remake of the Carpenters (another brother/sister act) "Rainy Days and Mondays".

Here is one of my favorite singers O'Bryan. He's not that well known, but he's great. He's another one of those "one man band" types like Prince, Stevie Wonder, or Terence Trent D'arby.

I'm Freaky (these dumb questions Don asks are funny since he discovered O'Bryan, just like he did Shalamar)

LOL that was hot, I loved it. I liked how he added a soulful touch to it and he threw in some jazz. Its good, almost as good as Stevie's but he innovated it and did his own thing.

Yeah, I loved it so much I had to order the album on Amazon. Got it used for a shad under $6 after shipping, not a bad deal at all. Boney James is blowing on the track, so he helps set off the jazz-feeling real nicely. His other song that I really like is "Be Myself Again".

don pimped o'bryan in the studio and of it. don had soultrain records which later morphed into solar records with dick griffey and the whole solar records family. shalamar had the dancers on the show and they got put together. long story there. don did take co writing credits on o'bryan and co producing credits and forced him into sounding like what was happening at the time. i ain't gonna get too deep but don was freaky deaky.
