I'll start:

This was six years before UGK's and Outkast's "International Player's Anthem" (also produced by the same people - Three 6 Mafia). This sampled Willie Hutch's "I Choose You" from "The Mack" soundtrack. Willie even made the introduction. RIP Willie.

"Juicy" from the Notorious B.I.G. (samples Mtume's 1983 hit "Juicy Fruit")

"I Ain't Mad at Cha" from 2Pac (actually an interpolation of the piano riff of DeBarge's "A Dream")

"Don't Leave Me" from Blackstreet (samples "A Dream", one of the singers vocally interpolates Aaron Hall's vocal in "Don't Go")

"Ain't Nothin' But a G Thang" from Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg (parts of the song sample Leon Haywood's "I Wanna Do Something Freaky 2 You" and Kid Dynamite's "Uphill Peace of Mind" - drums)

----
Well you get the point, lol.

man i could have a field day with this thread, lol.

i've already posted this in a thread about Mike's Unbreakable, but here's Primo sampling Patrice Rushen's Remind Me for the thumping chords and you can't even recognise it - that's how i love samples to be used - in a creative way.

Biggie - Unbelievable (Instrumental)

this Dilla track takes Isleys' Don't Say Goodnight and plays with Jasper's awesome synth leads.

J Dilla - Bye

Im going to end up flooding this thread with De La Soul.

Saturday

Instant Funk - I got My Mind Made Up

Mighty Ryeders - Evil Vibrations

Theres also a great remake of this.

De La use so much samples it might be a bit silly to post every sample in every song, so I'll just do a couple.

You flood it with De La? Cool, I'll flood it with Dilla, lol:

Pause (there's a sample there but it's unrecognizable, lol... I like it that way sometimes, so it wouldn't like quite obvious.

J Dilla - Stop (samples Dionne Warwick's "You're Gonna Need Me" and Jadakiss' "Why")

Here's my favorite De La song (I like the way the deejay in the group kept scratching while Phillipe Wynde vocalized, this was the album version):

De La Soul - Breakadawn

Smokey Robinson - Quiet Storm

Michael Jackson - I can't Help it

I always found it weird that Mj ended up having a song called Break of Dawn after this, lol.

alright now this page is killing my computer's memory LOL

Tim, a while ago i uploaded some very rare Dilla (Jay Dee era) demos from 2005 that just have the most awesome sampling. check it out here if you're interested

genius.

Don't play for me :( I must say I am in the mood for some J Dilla now. *Listens to Fantastic*

ahhh Jabz, i'll try and upload the whole beat CD for you in MP3.

A Tribe Called Quest's production team, The Ummah (Dilla, Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed) came up with the illest beats, even though it was primarily Dilla's sound they all contributed sonically to it.

The Ummah - The Love

this one samples Little Sunflower by Freddie Hubbard but the original demo had Dilla sampling the beautiful Rhodes riff from Minnie Riperton's Inside My Love. i'll try and dig that up, it's unbelievable.

I've got all of Tribes records and Q-Tips solo stuff. Love it mate... That player is evil!

one of my own. thought i'd turn cheese into raw gangster ish, lol. what's cooler than sampling Olivia Newton-John?
