No, they would not be totally protected. For example, your example of car companies. Yes, if they own up to it they reduce liability. But the key word is reduce. They are still liable and they are still going to have to pay out considerable sums to people for their mistake.
Sony can say they found out after the fact but that is not going to prevent fans from asking for a return (Sony can then go to the Cascios for the money they lost, but what is the chance they are going to recover their losses?) It also is not going to prevent their target market from being distrustful of anything they release afterwards. The amount of money lost by a shattered consumer confidence would be a large amount. Plus, as I said, if Sony were to go to court over this, they would have to make their actions transparent. They would have to prove not only that they did not know about fraud, but that there was no way of them knowing. They would have to provide the documentation of all that they did. They would have to explain why, not only one, but two musicologists who are renowned in their fields were also fooled. All of those people who worked with MJ would have to explain how they were fooled. They would have to show what steps they took to insure the authenticity of these records especially when the authenticity was questioned not only by MJ's family, by some who worked with MJ, by fans, and also by a member of MJ's own estate. The loss of reputations that day would be great. At the very least they are going to look like a bunch of baffoons.
Sony and their legal team would have to weigh the costs. Would it be better to allow the fraud to continue and if it is ever bought to light, deny the claims, produce evidence that the claims are false, and deny knowing anything and in the meantime, keep a small fraction that believes they are false under control; or, do we go to court and stake our reputation and financial future concerning this product?
We have to remember that even if it were proved that Sony was defrauded, proving that Sony knew this at anytime is going to be much more difficult. Companies like this don't get that big and stay around for so long by leaving trails of information around about their dirty deeds.
It plays all sorts of stuff! N64, Master System, PS1 ,Game Gear, GBA it was a good idea![]()
Happy birthday Jesta

Thanks, Bumper! It's exactly what I wanted!

... Wait, what!?
What what? You don't like boobs?![]()
Lets keep it on topic guys. After passing the headphones back and forth between me and mum, we've come to the conclusion that the hee-hee-hee in Breaking News is not the one from In The Closet. In fact, it sounds like three separate Hees cut together.

... Sigh. Thanks, Bumper.
You're welcome.
Why sigh? Still not happy?
The sigh was silent, and mostly non-existent. I am happy![]()
Ok, now that you're happy here's the real present:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Jesta! :sun:
Today I listened to Rodney Jerkins talk about Michael. He said that when he (Rodney) was preparing his 25th birthday party, Michael told him he should celebrate his mother on this day.
Bumper, I'm now scarred for life. That is so wrong.
Guys, I'm creating a PowerPoint presentation for my college class about these tracks, and I need accounts about the situation from some of you veterans. I can't include anything illegal, so comparisons can only be limited to the released tracks, and obviously no leaked tracks can be used in the slightest.
What I need from you guys is a summary of your beliefs in the situation, such as your comments on the vibrato, what you believed happened with the tracks, maybe even a little bit about yourself as an MJ fan. I want this to be as authentic as possible, so any input will be greatly appreciated!
Basically you want us to do your job![]()
I'll be providing my opinion as well as my debate history, but I need a broader view, hence where you guys come in!
I've forgotten, are comparisons of officially released songs allowed to be posted on here?
Of course that won't stop Jab Me from getting them taken down.yes they r allowed. what is not allowed is unreleased tracks and stolen stuff
