Michael Jackson Returns: Amazon's Thriller Deal

It's terrible seeing Prince mingled into that mess but it will go on. I just saw that new mini interview of Prince and Paris in some Japanese show promoting the Japan tribute concert. What an atrocity.

So its okay for the Jacksons to screw their own dead brother (and milk every last cent out of his corpse)..........

........But its not okay for somebody to do the same to them????

Double standards and hypocrisy as usual!!!!

Thriller' Jacket Lawsuit to Be Resolved, Bohbot Says

November 18, 2011 After a lawsuit was filed by three brothers of music superstar Michael Jackson, manufacturer and showroom owner Steeve Bohbot said he is aggressively working to resolve breach-of-contract allegations arising from the promotion of replica jackets from Jackson's iconic “Beat It” and “Thriller” videos.
As part of the resolution, Bibby Financial Services has paid Jackson's estate $234,000 for its part of the deal for the replica jackets, which were to be sold on Amazon.com. The sum was paid on Nov. 15, when the Jackson brothers’ suit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Compensation for the brothers is being negotiated, said Nick Hart, managing director of Bibby. He said he hopes the dispute will be resolved the week of Nov. 21.
“We do not typically get involved with negotiations,” Hart said. “We’re trying to help out and make sure both sides are equitably dealt with.” The Jackson brothers’ lawyer, Eric J. Farber of Oakland, Calif.–based Farber & Foote, did not return a call for comment by press time.
Bohbot said the lawsuit was the result of a miscommunication between the Jackson brothers, whom he has known for 25 years. Jermaine Jackson’s children are childhood friends of Bohbot’s.
Bohbot also stated that he has not been paid by Amazon.com, the retailer that has exclusive rights to sell the replica jacket. “No one has made a penny on this yet,” Bohbot said.
Bohbot had been given licenses by the Michael Jackson estate and Michael Laurent, the designer of the original “Beat It” and “Thriller” jackets, to manufacture limited runs of 500 each for the famous jackets. They were scheduled to go on sale Nov. 8 on Amazon.com. (The website had the jackets listed as “currently unavailable.") Jackson 5 alums Marlon, Tito, Jackie and Jermaine Jackson had signed a patch inside each of the jackets, which were to retail for $2,350 each. Jermaine Jackson did not participate in the suit.
The suit alleged that Bohbot promised to pay Marlon, Jackie and Tito $100,000 each for signing the jackets. It also sought reimbursement for $9,500 of the brothers’ travel costs, which was underwritten by the Jackson brothers' management company, The Sheridan Taylor Group.
The Jackson brothers’ complaint said Bohbot had ducked out of paying the Jackson brothers immediately after the jacket signing and later broke a promise to pay the brothers a few days later. According to the complaint, when he did not submit payment to the brothers after the jackets were delivered to Amazon.com, the brothers decided to file a lawsuit.
The jackets are the most exacting detailed replicas of the “Beat It” and “Thriller” jackets, Bohbot said. Collectors and die-hard Michael Jackson fans were the intended demographic for the jackets.—Andrew Asch

I don't understand why this dude needs the Jacksons signature to go on with this when he's already secured the rights with the Estate and the designer of the original Jacket.

In fact the signatures of the Jacksons is devaluing the replicas. Who's going to buy a grossly overpriced replica bearing the signatures of obscure Z-list people?

I agree that was crazy to do that.

This company states "die hard" MJ fans were the demograpic they aimed at marketing to. Did they not know that die hard MJ fans are not for the most part J5 fans and those who are certainly keep it separate. They dont mix J5 with any of MJ solo career . They should have done some research and saved themselves the problems of a lawsuite and just sold the Jackets with MJ transposed siggy. They already had Estate approval to do so. IMO They devalued thier own product by trying to add other peoples signatures to what was Michael's alone.

MJ fans are very protective of what is Michael's and Michael's alone. They dont want others touching exploiting or taking credit. Now Im not attcking the bros for thier own rights and talent as I am a J5 Fan. Im just stating how many of us are when it comes to things Michael. Certainly the Jackson's are aware and have seen the fan community OPENLY rail and complain of how they feel the family is expoiting Michael. MJ fans dont want anyone trying to copy his style or exploit his name for just for profit. which this clearly is. Why in the world would they think these Jackets would fly in the MJ fan community.. IMO this is the most blatant form of expoitation ever becuase they absolutely have "nothing" to do with these Jackets in any way shape or form. They just took what was Michael's ONLY and used it for thier personal gain and profit.

If they wanted J5 siggys It would have been better to replicate an iconic Jacket from the J5 era. That would have made more sense to have the Bros sigs on that or even the MSG Jacket MJ wore for the J5 reunion at least they had a part in those things. It wont be as profitable as MJ's Thriller or Beat it Jacket. but at least if would have been considered Kosher.

As always...

Well, it's time for all business people out there to learn something. Getting the authorization from the Estate is one good thing to do. But if you associate with the brothers, you fail.

[h=1]Jackson brothers settle suit over 'Thriller,' 'Beat It' jackets[/h]
Los Angeles (CNN) -- Three of Michael Jackson's brothers settled a lawsuit Monday that they filed last week against a company they alleged "duped" them in a deal to sell replicas of jackets worn by the pop icon. The endorsement of the "Thriller" and "Beat It" jackets was the first involving Michael Jackson's oldest son, Prince, who posed for pictures with his uncles as they autographed the limited-edition jackets last month."Marlon, Tito and I created this project as a tribute to our brother Michael and his fans worldwide, and we are very happy that there has been a resolution," Jackie Jackson said Monday. The brothers' announcement didn't specify the terms of the settlement. The brothers filed a lawsuit Tuesday alleging the jacket's marketer bounced a check to them for travel expenses and had failed to pay each of the three brothers the $100,000 each for signing the 1,000 leather jackets."We spent the last week making sure that everyone is in agreement with this settlement," Eric Farber, the attorney for the Jackson brothers, said in announcing the settlement. The Jacksons are looking forward to "a successful partnership" in the future with the company, he said.Steeve Bohbot, owner of Connected Internationals Sales, said he was "relieved to clear up this misunderstanding." "We have such an immense respect for the Jackson brothers and Michael's legacy and are pleased to have resolved this situation," he said. The Jackson brothers, who recently reunited onstage for a series of concerts, gathered at West Hollywood's Bar Marmont on October 29 to sign the jackets. Prince Jackson, who has previously stayed away from commercial endorsements, joined them at the event, but he did not autograph the jackets.Prince Jackson was not involved in the lawsuit since he was not part of the marketing agreement. It was not disclosed how much he was to be paid to attend and pose with the jackets.Michael Jackson debuted the red "Beat It" and red and black "Thriller" jackets, designed by Marc Laurent, in 1983. The Jackson brothers signed 500 of each jacket, which are still on sale for $2,350.

I have to applaud the brothers. They taught a 14 yo that people who have done nothing in life get to be paid to show up somewhere. Great values.

It's shocking to say the least! I really don't understand these people.
I guess Prince wasn't promised any money and he just did it to help out his poor uncles.
