Wembley DVD content - discuss Michael, his concert and performance ONLY [discussion ]

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

Anyone else agree that the Werewolf mask used in Thriller for the Bad Tour was the best looking mask out of all the wolf masks that has been used on stage through the years?

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

Just watched the whole DVD - all I can say is I was blown away! Probably the best live performance I've ever seen of Michael. Unbelievable. The man was a genius.

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

1 more day for me!

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

Just watched the DVD with the family and absolutely loved it!! Mindblowing!
I would have given anything to have actually been there on the night, but this DVD has made me one very happy lady! :clapping:

Re: BAD 25 Demo's unreleased, unheard Studio songs Discussion [previews added]

I totally understand what you're saying. Al Capone just didn't have that sonic signature that Michael and Bruce always left on a song. That's more of a result of the fact that what we're hearing is not a polished final master, but a rough mix. Price Of Fame is a bit different, as the instrumentation isn't as up front and doesn't drive the song as much as Michael's vocal performance does.

As far as being released as singles, it'd really just be more of a novelty situation at this point.

I sent a friend who's a policeman Abortion Papers yesterday. He said he loved it so much he was listening to it at the station today and played it to his colleagues who all thought it was amazing and didn't understand why it hadn't been released.

I am just a run of the mill music lover well Michael's music lover, lol. But just reading these comments and back and forth about these songs/demos make me think Michael's demos were SO good some of us believe they could be released as singles and some evidence are these friends/cops that love Abortion Papers- that is so nice to hear. I hear a lot of- excuse me, "crap" out there and Michael's demos albeit not quite perfect are better than anything out there imho.

I like seeing his creative process. I think it is really interesting and seeing what topics he was thinking about. You can just imagine being in the studio and watching Michael sing these songs and testing them.

BAD is one of my favorite albums but they could of done better only song I like was al capone, How come they never put tomboy, groove of midnight, girl of another love, someone put your hand out 1987 version on the album why? Too me it wasn't right at all how they did it them songs really didn't groove me or hype me to another level, Cause we know michael got some powerful tracks in the bad era that people are dying too hear.

Re: BAD 25 Demo's unreleased, unheard Studio songs Discussion [previews added]

I feel it's condescending for a label to assume, just because an artist dies, then the songs automatically change for the better. Aliyah dying didn't make me like her songs better. Tupac dying didn't make me change my mind about his songs, and then suddenly feel, well, i'll automatically buy them. And i feel that that is what Sony is trying to do to me, now, as a consumer.

I don't know why you assume labels think songs automatically get better when an artist dies. The songs don't get better or different. But it's true that after an artist dies (immediately after his or her death) sales increase big time and even people who did not like that artist that much, buy some records by him or her. We can analyze why that is so, but that's already the field of human psychology. It's the same with anyone: Kurt Cobain, Elvis, Tupac, Whitney etc. It has nothing to do with anyone thinking songs get better just because someone dies.

However, we have already past that phase though with Michael. This Bad 25 release does not ride that post-death hype any more. It was TII that rode it.

I think we should not get into assumptions about what Michael would want. We cannot make statements about that. Yes, he did not release these songs while he was alive and if he had released them he would have still worked on them. But his death obviously changed many things - ie. he cannot work on these songs any more and finish them. We don't know what Michael would say or think about such a post-death situation, so we cannot speak for him.

Michael was special, indeed. i am not personally moved for the positive by any outtakes that Michael didn't oversee, himself, including these Bad 25 outtakes. This isn't the first time. Labels have done this consistently. The record industry has had trouble because it's assumed that suits running labels have A and R abilities. Well..they don't. They just have connections. Hence the independent revolution, and Prince fighting with his labels and etc. etc. In the very old days label execs may have had a little bit of 'it', but today..no way. I have hated so much of what labels have put out. And quite frankly, a lot of other people must have, too, with all the Piracy going on and people not buying songs, and free file sharing, and such. A lot of people complaing on youtube that songs suck.

I agree with this though: that labels today think they have all the A and R abilities and this lead popular music into a very dire state that we see on the charts today (ie. most chart music today, quite frankly, sucks big time with untalented, uncreative "artists"). But this is already another subject.

as far as the psychology of why people buy music by artists when they die, well..i never did..so, to each his own. i have stated i never bought an artists' music after they died. and certainly not for that reason.

and, as far as speaking for Michael..you just did, when you said he would work on all those songs were he still alive. we don't know that. maybe he would on some, maybe not on others..or, whatever.

and i wasn't speaking for Michael. i was echoing statements and quotes he said, himself.

I'm sure this has already been answered, but why do they have IJCSLY and Bad twice on the DVD?

Re: BAD 25 Demo's unreleased, unheard Studio songs Discussion [previews added]

Then please provide the statements and quotes where he says he would not want his demos or anything from him to be released at all after he dies.

The alternative to releasing demos, concerts and stuff is to not to release anything at all any more. Ever. Sure, they could release best of compilations again and again, but after the gazzilionth such compilation album who would buy that? There's only as many times you can sell Billie Jean and Beat It. We already have lots of best of albums of MJ on the market.

So the alternative is not to release demos with the reasoning that "Michael would not have wanted unfinished stuff to be released" (and you know how what Michael's stance would be about times when he's not here any more and he cannot create any new songs?).
Then they also should not release concerts, because "had Michael wanted to release them he would have released them when he was alive".

So basically those who say such things want the Estate to just sit there and do nothing at all. I'm not sure if that really is what Michael wanted from his Estate. Or if he did he would have and should have made it clear in his Will, IMO.

I'm sure this has already been answered, but why do they have IJCSLY and Bad twice on the DVD?

Those extras are from the Yokohama concert in the first 1987 leg of the Bad Tour. He sang Bad fully live there, and IJCSLY has a different ending where Michael and Sheryl Crow keep singing acapella. In second leg like Wembley, Sheryl just walks away at the last "and if I stop-" and then Michael looks depressed and it transitions to She's Out Of My Life.

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

This DVD, no matter what the quality is or was supposed to be in our minds, is the best thing we get in another 10-20 years!!! I am very happy. And I am honoured to get the chance to watch Michael Jackson during his best era in live and all of it in very solid quality.

So, stop whining about the DVD quality and searching for mistakes in each frame and so on. Be proud to see such an event during your lifetime!

Love you all! And be sure to buy cd and dvd!!!

Such a beautiful perfomance and quality is not bad at all - what's not to love about this

it doesn't matter what Michael said, Sony was going to release whatever they were going to release. IMO, For me, with the advent of iTunes, i never get tired of buying his singles from his original seven albums. sometimes i lose them, lose a computer, get a new computer and buy them all over again. Michael's originality never gets old. And, of course, new generations will be introduced to it. i certainly am not here to be against Sony keeping MJ in the spotlight. i'm just saying that as opposed to that reviewer who said that Bad 25 trounces Thriller 25, he could not be further from the truth IMO. and that's all i am saying in a nutshell.

one thing i can say about that price of fame song is that i can certainly feel the lack of a soul, feelings and love in Michael's father. other than that, the song has a great void, and leaves me with a very unpleasant feeling, and i only need have heard it once on youtube, but i'll never be inclined to go back to hear it. And, sure enough, Michael wasn't the last to oversee whether or not it should be released. and all i can say from that, is Michael was and forever is the only truly brilliant one in this equation, about knowing what sounds good, and what is releasable. And i don't care how impossible i sound, saying all this, since i know he's not able to oversee any of this.
After all of Sony's bickering, saying they knew better than Michael, what Michael should do, Bad 25 sounds like a lame rip off of the Brilliant decisions Michael already made, 'ironically'.

Michael's singing voice will always sound great, no matter what.

I did NOT realize that Itunes actually worked in Ethiopia, but it does!!! :wild: So I got to buy the DVD on itunes and Watch it and just finished it now! and OMG! For Most of the performance, my mouth was hanging open and just goosebumps and chills all over my body just from watching it! He did more than 5 songs back to back and it was kinda' interesting to me since on the Dangerous and HIStory tour, he did a few songs then took a break… This was after all his FIREST Solo tour and You could actually see his excitement and his ENERGY! His spirits were up and everything Perfect.

My fave. parts:

  • ALL the perfomances, Esp. IJCSLY (Both Wembley and Japan)
  • Dirty Diana (Ok omg… that was just crazy amazing)- but didnt Mike say he took it out of the show cuz of Lady Di? I guess he changed his mind? But just watching him… ohhhweeyyy!
  • I'll be there going into Rock with You!
  • BAD- the kids coming on stage and that little girl going up and kissing him… awww…
  • MITM, Just beautiful (but I'll say I like the DWT one better)
  • Greg Phill. and mike doing a move together…Greg cracks me up…
  • Greg phill. playing "You win again"-BeeGees and all those mixed songs.

Well I guess I LOVED Everything about this DVD! It is Deff. one of a kind. I have been promoting it for over a month now and 3 people (non-fans) have asked how they can order it!…

Thankyou Michael, for leaving yourself with us. We will miss you and Love you!

So how would you feel if he was still alive and we got the same exact release for Bad's 25th anniversary?

i would bet my life that he would give us something entirely different. i don't know what, but i am certain, it wouldn't be what's being offered, now. if this wasn't the case, Michael and Sony would have never been at odds and the 2002 demonstrations would have never happened. when MJ oversaw something..even if he made a tiny move..it worked..like with number 1's. he just added one more chance..and BAM! it worked!

I don't know which review you talk about but I personally think Bad 25 IS better than Thriller 25. And it has nothing to do with Michael personally. Thriller 25 had just one or two demos, otherwise it was just full of remixes which I do not care for, to be honest. Those were other artists' interpretation of Michael's songs - not Michael's. I skip them all the time.

Bad 25 has more "new" songs, a concert CD (something we never had of Michael before) and the fantastic Bad Tour concert from Wembley.

To me, 'for all time' trounces anything on Bad 25. Michael oversaw the other artists. one will i am tune is cool. that's enough for me. and i already had bucharest. i loved that. you know what..i limit myself to this thread. people celebrate what they wish to celebrate. the fact is, i still play stuff from Thriller 25, today. i wonder if people will still be playing stuff from Bad 25 in 2016. as far as Wembley goes, though...yes i can understand that. there's nothing to oversee on that. that's a complete concert. and i do have a concert recording of Michael. He has released those, before.

I hope you know For All Time was not written by Michael. While the demos that we have on Bad 25 all were.

I have the feeling your opinions have not so much to do with the actual content of these materials than with your antipathy against the Estate/Sony.

it never mattered whether Michael wrote it or not..his overseeing it was his brilliance. He made cry into CRY. man in the mirror into MAN IN THE MIRROR. His writing was just icing on the cake. That made him overcome Motown, and beyond. i'm centering all this around a statement Michael once made..'i know what sounds good'. And he was right. And i'm not ashamed of having sided with Michael against anything he sided against. and the estate is not part of the discussion, because there was no estate for him to side against at those times. if you wish to make sony and the estate like they are one word, to bait me, i'm not going for it. the estate will do what they will do. my feelings are my feelings.

Sony would not be releasing any of this without the blessing of the Estate, so if you blame one you will have to blame the other too.

too bad that they didnt include the intro of Rock with you on the CD

best part!

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

I've seen some Wembley 88 full songs on youtube:
HH,HN,ApoM - his absolutely live the best perfomances.
WBSS,SOML and IJCSLY - very very good.
Thriller - not impressed, camera angles brrr..
TWYMMF - just terrible cameras angles, like watching repetition, no crowd feel at all,
compare to TWYMMF amateur 23 July... I'd prefer 23 July cause it's got energy.

Re: Wembley DVD content - Discuss Michael, his Wembley concert and performances Only

Did anyone else think it was weird after Smooth Criminal that MJ went in to an on-stage tent in order to change his clothes? What was the point of that? Why didn't he just go off-stage to change his clothes?
