Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I found out the other night that Bad 25 documentary was on MuchMore in Canada.

Just this past Saturday. I caught it just in time.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I'm sure somebody here said that the BBC weren't showing an HD version of the documentary.

Anyway, according to the Guardian the BBC showing only attracted about 800,000 viewers which is roughly 4.6% of the total.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/dec/03/im-a-celebrity-viewers

I knew the BBC's decision to show it on BBC2 would produce low viewing figures but this is lower than I expected.
The Rolling Stones documentary attracted 900,000 viewers on BBC2, although to be fair they did have the advantage of major advertising across the BBC network, plus 'The One Show' special, plus 'Stones Night' on BBC2. I guess, if I take into account the fact the BAD25 didn't have any of that promo it's not so bad. (I still wish they showed it on BBC 1!)

With all the Jimmy Savile BBC mess going on, I was worried about it airing at all. So I'm okay that it aired with little fanfare if it meant it wouldn't be met with some kind of protest.

And also that it was the BBC showing it.

Review from Metro:

Michael Jackson: Bad 25 offered a glorious reminder of his singing talent
TV review:
But a fast forward to the present – reactions to news of Jackson’s death used as a preface to the writing and recording of Man In The Mirror – was intense, honest and almost wordless. Here, you saw how much Jackson meant to so many. The sad underscore of Lee’s film is that it made you wonder: when Jackson looked at the man in the mirror, who did he see looking back?

Is that Mirror comment a dig. I would think that when Michael looked in the Mirror who he saw looking back was a hard working African American man, who was loved by many.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

lame. but is that official/final for considerations?

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

Just finished watching BBC full length version for a second time. Spike did a great job with it i must say. Learnt quite a lot of stuff that i did not know before. My favorite parts would have to be footage of Michael is the studio while the whole twymmf part was very interesting and awfully cute.

1 thing though, anybody notice that there was no mention of the words/title "Moonwalker". They showed multiple parts of the film including the chase through the streets and Mr Big's spider globe when talking about the short film smooth criminal. I know you can say that it all leads up to the music video that is "smooth criminal" but i felt it kinda weird that the film was not mentioned at all. Nor was it during the speed demon part of doc.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

Yeah, even though they talked about Smooth Criminal, Speed Demon, and Leave Me Alone videos, the actual Moonwalker bit was an after-thought I wish they talked about more.
Also, just a smidge more on the Bad Tour would have been nice, like backstage footage before a show.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I'd be willing to bet there will be some kind of bonus featurette on the bluray that'll be dedicated to moonwalker

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I dunno. What else would there to be said since they showed the quick montage of the movie?
I guess it's kind of a big deal John Lennons son was in it.
And the kid version of BAD should have also been brought up.

I felt the same way about them explaining more of the Smooth Criminal lean. But I guess there's not more much to say than IT WAS DONE WITH STRINGS, SEE?

If he refers about tabloid rumours MJ not wanting to be black, then he should wonder what he sees in his own mirror?
MITM is great phrase, I think many people reflect their inner selfs in to MJ, basically what they think MJ was, is not MJ, but themselves. I don't know how to explain it but hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say:blush:

Does anyone know where to get a hold of the BBC version yet?

"Oh my god. I'm doing a duet with Michael f*cking Jackson"-- Siedah Garret :D

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

They could have made it 4 hours and still not fit everything in.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

ya rly.
There's probably hours and hours and hours and HOURS of tape, film, audio, pictures, etc. of material from between 1986 and 1988 alone.

I could watch every Bad tour show they have (which we have no reason not to believe they have at least 75% of the 123 shows on tape) in one sitting :D

Matt Forger gets emotional everytime when speaking about Michael. The One was made before 2009 and he's crying there too just remembering the good times when he worked with Michael :( , saying that it was the highlight of his life and nothing could ever match that or something like that.

All those teary eyes from grown men got my eyes water too:cry:

I know my reply a little bit ott but that was exactly what I was thinking when watching interviews from people who worked with MJ. To think what Sullivan says about possibility MJ being p*do, I doubt they would be crying over a man if they have/had any doubts, after all, some of them were with MJ a long time and got to know him very well.
I suppose interviewing people who spent hours/days/months/years with MJ, means nothing to compare Sullivan and likes him could get out of Mann and other people who was around only limited time and what they say only supports what Sullivan wants to sell. Sullivan and other bottom feeders have a picture of MJ in their mind and God forbid them to slip away from that picture. Thankfully there are people who worked with MJ, and they can give a different picture of the man.

Sorry about going of the topic.

lol @ the comment about Tatiana getting too aggressive.
Uh, yeah, a kiss on the cheek and a peck on the lips is iNsAnE!!

Oddly, them letting her go from the tour is the only gripe I really have with MJ/Frank.

Yeah, I have realized this too: Michael is the Mirror! Because he was a very private person and because he was different, people tend to fill in the gaps of their knowledge about him with themselves (not realizing they are doing that). Projection. It's amazing how revealing that Mirror is about those people... When you read someone like Sullivan you know most of the stuff is about himself, his hung-ups, his issues and not Michael. Unfortunately few people realize that.

BTW, is there a way to watch the BBC version online?

:( Nothing to look forward to about next year's Oscar then.

I don't know what are the other films about so I'm not gonna comment on whether it's deserved or not, but if the documentary about 2Pac could be Oscar nominated a few years ago, maybe this could have too, but oh well.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

As always, Oscar politics.

Already there is controversy with the top 15. The movie that won the New York Times' Critics Best Documentary didn't even make Oscar's short list.

Oh well, I am sure BAD 25 will be the most successful & most watched Doc of 2012. Even without an Oscar.

His mother and his children are beneficiaries of the Michael's will. That's why dedications only include them.

Yes the book is dedicated to those the Estate is responsible for caring for according to MJs own will and family trust. Most the family doesnt even support the Estate or this documentary or the BAD25 Album. They completly snubbed it. So why insult them and dedicate it to them. They dedicated to his Mother and children out of respect for them and to show where their responsibility lies.
Ahh...I forgot. You're right. They have no obligations towards Joe Jackson. Thanks for the reminder.:)

About the documentary....:

Everytime from now on when I see or hear Michael sing "Make that change" in the end of MITM, I'll think of how that was done (the Andrae Crouch Choir came back in the studio and Michael finished it with 'Make that change') Perrrrrfect as always Michael!

Oscar or not, the documentary was excellent. I hope the lack of recognition doesn't discourage them from doing similar documentaries of the post 80s music. Those years have been underrated for far too long.
