Message from The Estate on the Tabloids

Re: Message from The Estate on the Tabloids / Est files with UK Press Complaints Commission

I was talking to one of the fans and she said that she contacted the Estate right after the first tabloid story leaked about fake FBI flies and the Estate team replied that they flied the complaint on July 1st, 2 days after the story first borke out.

I don't know if it's true that the estate first contacted the Press Commission on July 1st. I've been in contact with and have been emailing Ben Gallop of the Press Commission, and he contacted me again on July 12th and told me that was the first day that the estate made contact with them to officially file a complaint against Sunday People/The Mirror. They didn't even file a complaint against the Daily Mail. And they should have. Now my complaint against the Daily Mail has been put on hold.

Either way, it's good that the estate is now pursuing it. But in my opinion, they should have been more aggressive, and moved quicker. They should have felt the fury that we did when those slanderous articles were first put out.

People should just stop judging others. Including the Estate..I think they did the right thing by issuing the statement, that wasn't good enough for some and they wanted complaints, when news breaks that the Estate already filed one it's "well, they learned their lesson", when fact is they did the complaint before any of us knew about it, and they don't get any recognition for that. I hate the "Michael" debacle and greatest hits album as much as the next person, but since they took over the Estate has done a pretty good job at clearing Michael's name, IMO.

I am with you on that one. I don't like the situation that led to its own thread, but when the estate does something well I think we should come out and applaud it. Also, they have to make decisions that we do not know about or we do not like.

Why, are the estate above criticism or something? I'm really not sure why fans should be giving 'recognition' to the fact that the estate's only response apart from quoting some song lyrics to the fans is to privately launch a pcc complaint 2 weeks after the fbi allegations were first made. Self-regulation of the press in the uk via the pcc has been totally and completely discredited - it's why we had the multi£million leveson inquiry last year. What will be outcome if this complaint is upheld by the pcc? - some retraction in small print in some inside back page of the mirror months and months down the line. How will that help in this case? - the horse has long bolted, the story is in all different media all round the world, unchallenged by mj's representatives, including howard weitzman, lawyer to the mj estate and the estate spokesman in the media who is named in the mirror documents as the lawyer who drew up for mj a pre-chandler settlement with another boy.

The story needed to be rebutted immediately in an official estate statement sent to all media, esp as they are implicated in covering up for mj - how can they abdicate their responsibility to protect mj's rep onto some obscure showbiz blog. If even fans are drawing uncomfortable inferences from their reluctance, then you can be sure the general public is.

Re the point that the Estate needs to focus on the WR court filings, that is true. I believe Howard Weitzman spoke about the huge # of lawsuits the Estate is dealing with and has dealt with involving massive $ claims. The Tohme issue is still pending as well, and the Neverland issue, and the claim on MJ's artwork, not to mention this current trial which they are footing the bill for. Yes, I agree the Estate could word things better/sooner but they do have a lot on their plate IMO.
Posters like respect, lacienega and shellywebster rebutted that mirror story within an hour or 2 of the story breaking. It's a little unrealistic to imagine the estate execs running a $billion estate with a whole team of people, can't multi-task and delegate to get out a simple statement setting out the facts that the info in the tabloid are not fbi files but a ragtail collection of docs from some tabloid hack, that there is no evidence mj paid off 2 dozen boys, that the weitzman hush money contact is a bogus tabloid story from 20 years ago.

Well said bonnie

Re: Message from The Estate on the Tabloids / Est files with UK Press Complaints Commission

So, the word is that the Estate has not been answering the Press Complaint's emails about this matter, so it has now been dropped.

I can't believe this! I spent a considerable amount of time and sent numerous and meticulous emails to this agency, only to be told the Estate was handling it, so they would work with the Estate in the future.

And the Estate totally drops the ball and doesn't even bother to press on and against the Daily Mail and the Mirror/Sunday People.

I give up on them. As long as they get their big fat checks, they don't care, it seems.:mat:

How naive of me to think that they would actually go the extra mile to fight for Michael's name.

I usually dont post here anymore. I visit, read and keep myself updated to whats happening in MJ world. But this I had to reply to.

I agree with you 100%. Some fans here (not neccecarly this thread) praises the estate waaay to much. The estate this, estate that. The only think the estate cares about is $$. They are going to suck Michaels legacy dry and then bail. This is why they dont care about stories like this.

Theyll release products, yes untill no one buys anything. then theyr'e out. John Branca is a phony and everyone can tell.

I have really tried to avoid taking sides, etc., but they have done some really questionable things. No need for me to bring them up. But there really is no defense of the Estate in their lack of action here. Just pure incompetency. The only reason they even got involved in this in the first place is because the fans were upset by their lack of action and they just ignored it for days until they couldn't ignore it any more. Telling us to go see the Cirque du Soleil show wasn't going to sit well. They should have left the complaint filing up the Taj and the fans. At least they would follow through. Now the whole thing is dropped. It says on the PCC website "Not Pursued - No Response from Complainant" (the Estate). Shameful.

Re: Message from The Estate on the Tabloids / Est files with UK Press Complaints Commission

According to Taj's twitter page he is going to pursue the complaint that he made. He hasn't given up yet.

Wrong thread but, yeah.. I just read on the timbaland thread that Michael Prince has found hard drives of unreleased music, just to mention something positive you know.

I agree, it should send out a signal at least that they actually care.

Re: Message from The Estate on the Tabloids / Est files with UK Press Complaints Commission

John branca and/or representatives of the estate needs to be asked in person or on next QA why they didn't pursue this. What a shame

I understand why most of the times you don't wanna make statements to avoid more attention being drawn toma certain issue, but in Michaels case ignoring stuff just doesn't stop the madness.

Taj Jackson ?@tajjackson3 19h

Looks like its time to file another PCC complaint @reallorraine. What part of enough is enough do these people not understand. No more lies!

Here is a link to the PCC document showing the estate's failure to respond. It's on pages 30 and 31.

Thanks, stellajackson. Actually the complaints are on pages and pages, pp 30-41. Loads of fans must have contacted the pcc and been told to leave it to the estate so it's such a poor show that the estate seems to have confirmed they're not pursuing it. If the pcc complaint was upheld, it wd only have been picked up by mj fans so it's not the end of the world, but importantly the media now knows the score, it's open season on mj, they can even drag his estate lawyers into their accusations, and they know they won't be rebutted or have formal complaints launched against them. The gov is proposing a new system of statutory regulation, people will have to pay to make complaints but there will be fines of up to £1m so who knows maybe that will prove more incentive for the estate in the future to not just stop counterfeit japanese keyrings but to protect mj's rep.

This story didn't ring true when it first appeared due to greeneyed's posts, and now it looks like it's confirmed not true by the publishing of the complaints with their dates. The unnamed fan seems to be unreliable, and asssuming that's the case it's not particularly smart for them to cause doubt to be cast on the estate teams's credibility.
