I know Michael went back to and from some songs in the vaults and re-worked them but did Michael actually re-record a song from different eras? I know he did but just want to know them.....

What re-records (old versions & new versions) have been leaked / released and are there any re-recorded songs unreleased that we know of?

I know he recorded For All Time twice. Once during the Thriller sessions and once during the Dangerous sessions. The later leaked in an unfinished form and was finished & officially released on Thriller 25. I don't know if the original Thriller era version leaked.

MJ didn't record FAT for Thriller. The leaked and released version are both from the same multitrack ( recorded during the Dangerous sessions in 1990).

@SkyWalk:

To answer your question:

WBSS -> demoed for OTW, recorded for Thriller
DBMA -> demoed for Bad, recorded for Dangerous
TDCAU -> demoed for Bad, recorded for Dangerous, re-recorded for HIStory
Earth Song -> recorded for Dangerous, partially re-recorded for HIStory

I think there were rumous about I'll be There and one or two more Jackson5 songs that were supposed to appear on the Decade album.

I have to say those J5 era songs would be amazing to hear and have on disc for retail release one day. I've always wanted those J5 era hits redone by "adult" Michael with that Bad / Dangerous era MJ sound.

What about the Pepsi versions of „Bad”, „Billie Jean” and „Black Or White”?

I asked Brad Sundberg about those rerecorded J5 tracks for Decade (supposedly I'll Be There and Never Can Say Goodbye were rerecorded) at his seminar, but he said it never happened to his knowledge. I then brought up the I'll Be There Pepsi commercial, to which Brad said that he thought this was recorded at Hayvenhurst. He seemed to suggest this was done specifically for the commercial.

Was Cheater re-recorded for the Invincible album?

It could be a totally different song. Cheater (1987) is credited to MJ & Greg Phillinganes while Cheater (1999 - 2001) is credited to MJ & R. Jerkins & "another guy" (< can't recall his name now)

Fats raps on the 2001 version.

I would love to of heard songs like Baby be Mine, Liberian Girl, Another part of Me re-recorded by Mike Invincible era or 2008......

I heard DBMA was recorded again for Invincible isn't that right?

Michael re worked on For All Time and added vocals in 2007 for T25. They said back in 2008 the song was written for Thriller but they clearly released the one from Dangerous sessions + added new vocals.

And WBSS 2008 - brand new MJ recording.

He didn't record any (new) vocals in 2007. The existing track was only overdubbed with some (additional) keyboard.

There were reports that said he had, I do not know anything for sure but the 2008 version is slightly different from the leaked version and it's not just the instruments.

Both have the very same vocals. The only different thing is the way of its downmixing (and the 2007 keyboard overdub, of course).

Even the bridge vocals are the same. On the leaked version they're hardly (but still with headphones) audible.

Michael re-recorded Much Too Soon entirely in early 1994.

Often times Michael wouldn't re-record a song; he would rework the music under the pre existing vocals (as was the case with Throwing Your Life Away and Beautiful Girl) or add a few new lines.

Michael recorded background vocals on For All Time in October 2007 at the Cascio residence. (Seems sketchy, I know, but these are legitimate vocals.) There is no bridge on the leaked version; Michael's lead vocal track mumbles through it because it wasn't recorded at the time. Listen to it with a good set of headphones; you can tell that a single person (Michael) is mumbling and scatting to fill the void.

Eddie also recorded some new keyboard layers.

It's the 1994 version according to Joe Vogel's book. Plus it sounds closer to his Dangerous voice than Thriller IMO

Yeah that's what I remembered reading Thanks! and there IS a difference between the vocals on the leaked version and the 2008 version. It's a fact.

Yeah it's definitely Dangerous / History era vocals.

There is definitely a difference - but what are we saying the leaked version is the Dangerous recording and the 2008 release has new vocals or the 2008 release is in fact the Thriller vocals? Or..... not being funny but is the 2008 version a mix of Thriller vocals the Dangerous leaked version and some new 2008 vocals!!?

For All Time was not written until the late 80s, it was never worked on during the Thriller era. Here's a quote from Michael Sherwood, who co-wrote For All Time with Steve Porcaro:
...when Steve Porcaro left Toto in '86, I continued a writing relationship with Steve, and we had some luck getting a song recorded by Michael Jackson (never released).

So MJ did not work on it during the Thriller era. (note; the reason he says the song is never released is because this is a quote from an interview in 1999).

I always thought the bridge vocals on the DAT leak were there but just not very audible in that mix. MJ is definitely not scatting, you can hear him sing the lyrics. In any case, vocals for the bridge were recorded in 1990. Brad Sundberg played a demo of For All Time from May 1990 (different than the DAT leak) at the seminar that had full vocals. They sounded exactly like the ones on the T25 version. Not sure whether they are the same or not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Thanks - I always thought they said it was written for Thriller just as an excuse to add it to T25...

So when was Much Too Soon First recorded? Is the 94 version the one on the MICHAEL album?

Much Too Soon was first recorded in 1981; an alternate mix also exists entitled Learned My Lesson. But yes, the version on Michael was recorded in the early months of 1994.

I figured it was a cataloging error at best.

What about the BOTDF tracks? 3 (I think) were at least written during the Dangerous sessions and at least 2 recorded back then too.

But Michael was behind that one in 2008 - he had to know - don't you think?

So yeah. BOTDF, Is It Scary and Superfly Sister were all written and most liekly first recorded during the Dangerous sessions. Do we know if Michael just used those old vocal takes for the album, or re-recorded them? I would assume the former due to touring commitments not giving him time to record at that point.

I read somewhere that Earth Song was originally written and recorded during the BAD Era, as What About Us... and also They Don't Care About Us... but he kept them until they were released in the HIStory Album. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
