Yes! Yes! Yes! Way to go Michael, and I think those do not include the sales from places like the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, right?

Michael Jackson “Xscape” Drops 58% as Coldplay Rocks to Number 1

by Roger Friedman - May 27, 2014 4:42 pm

Michael Jackson’s “Xscape” album dropped 58% in its second week of sales. After moving 161,000 copies in its debut, “Xscape” moved only 68,000 copies in its second week. The new number 1 is “Ghost Stories” by Coldplay with 385,978 copies sold– more than twice what Jackson sold in his first week. Number 2 is country star Brantley Gilbert with 215, 087– again considerably more than Jackson. “Xscape” fell to number 3 on hitsdailydouble, but it’s already plummeted to number 20 on iTunes.

More competition comes next week with Mariah Carey’s well-reviewed “Me. I am Mariah. The Elusive Chanteuse.” Already number 2 on iTunes, “Me. I am Mariah” is a hit out the box with three or four possible singles starting with “You Don’t Know What to Do” featuring Wale.

The album has several more possibilities, and a long life ahead of if played right. After being a year overdue, Carey really pulled it out, as they say, and came home a winner. Even I’m surprised that “Me I am Mariah” is so good. There isn’t a weak track on it. I’ve already raved about her re-working of George Michael’s “One More Try.” But you’ve also got “Thirsty,” “Make it Look Good,” and the opening track, “Cry.” A lot of thought was put into this record. It will be interesting to see how it hits. I think: big time.

This guy really has a grudge against Michael. Didn't bother to mention that a 58% decline is respectable for week 2 as someone else posted here. Moreover, he mentions the iTunes decline without mentioning the fact that a good chunk of Michael's sles are now coming from physical copies now that people are aware that it's out there. This guy is such a jackass

He really doesn’t like Michael, does he?

The average second week drop for big artists is about 60 %, and 70 % would still be a normal drop. The biggest second-week drops are over 80 %. Funny how Xscape is doing better than average and this guy makes it sound like it’s underperforming.

Indeed. Actually, one could say that the album over-performed in the first week as the final sales where well above the initial projections which were below 100K according to one poster on here. Even the predictions during the week itself were too low. Given this, the album had a higher mountain to fall from in week 2. Anyways, looking forward to the future promotion and the next single

No offense, but do we really need to post here every crap this loser writes? The only people giving him attention are MJ fans. Roger Friedman and his opinion is irrelevant, especially because he's so out of touch with the reality of charts and record sales these days.

Maria Carey is a threat, though. The MJ estate did say there is more to come for the album. When and what can we expect "more"??

I don't see it as a "threat". Obviously any new release by a big name artist will outsell older releases. That's just the natural order of things. Xscape at this point does not compete for #1 with those new releases any more. It's all about longevity on the charts now not about #1. That ship is gone with or without Mariah Carey.

I really don't get it why fans give so much attention to Roger Friedman and his opinion when he obviously does not know anything about how charts and sales work these days. He just WANTS Xscape to be a flop because he is butthurt that his buddies the Cascios are not involved this time. He praised the Michael album to high heavens, calling it better than Invincible etc. but trashes Xscape at every opportunity. It's pretty obvious by now what it is about for him. He was mum about it when Xscape was high on the charts and now starts writing articles gleefully saying things how it dropped to #20 on iTunes. Or how quick he was to gleefully report it that LNFSG dropped to #70 or so, when it was just because of some kind of technicality and then it quickly rose back on the charts. But of course he failed to report THAT.

Can we agree not to post RF articles here and this guy know nothing about charts and how things works.
His specialities are Hedda Hopper style gossip etc, and I just don't bother reading his opinion of this album because he is so biased that it really stinks. This is chart thread and we should post articles from proper music magazines etc.

Btw 1 fan tweeted this to Roger

@showbiz411 Roger, you remind me of the Grinch who attempted to steal Christmas joy...didn't work.

FYI, the first week sales predictions for Mariah are in the 65-70K range so not so great. I think it will do better than this because once again they seem to be underestimating the physical sales for these older artist. Wishing the best for her. What I don't get is why idiots like RF have to put down another artist in order to highlight someone else. That "again considerably more than Jackson" comment was so uncalled for in the context of his article

He doesn't care about any of those other artists. His only interest is in portraying Xscape as a flop.

BTW did Roger make a article about the Top ten hit LNFSG? He called it a flop for weeks.

Roger would support the release when Casicos, Bruce Sweedien or something Dileo-related woud be involved.
He is a fan of this 3 person, not of Michael because he got obviously infos from this people.

M. JACKSON & J. TIMBERLAKE – Love Never Felt So Good: 39.553 (+ 1.183)

Yay, great airplay update there! Keep on the good work requesting. I'll just do my part in a few minutes.

About Friedman - isn't obvious how biased he is? I love Mariah, but MJ sold twice as much as she will in her first week and for Roger that's a big success, but MJ is a big flop. LOL Even Mariah fans are rolling their eyes at this.

I just requested LNFSG on 7 stations via the following link on Rihanna's home page. It is super easy to do. As the link takes you to a pre-filled request page, it literally only takes a few seconds per request. You just have to click the box for LNFSG and enter a name and the code at the bottom of the page. I didn't have to enter any other information including my email address! Come on people, let's make this happen! Both the song and album need our help, grass roots style.

http://rihannadaily.com/www/request/

FYI: I don't even live in the US but it doesn't matter. I was able to easily submit my request!

Midweek UK Chart:
Love Never Felt So Good: No. 13 (Down 3)
Xscape: No. 3 (Down 1)
Xscape was beaten by Coldplay who are No. 2 and Sam Smith's new release (Boosted by pre order sales).
You must remember, that although Xscape isn't doing too well on the iTunes chart, the UK chart counts, Amazon sales, Play.com sales, Sainsburys
's sales, HMV sales etc. Xscape is doing fantastic in the UK and has been played plenty of times on music channels!

I also need to point out that the promotion here in the UK is very strong. The Xperia Z2 was on every ad-break during the live semi finals of Britain's Got Talent almost every night, the Xscape advert was played regularly throughout this week, the Xperia Z2 billboard was on every street with the Xscape artwork. Radio stations play it frequently and refer him as the King of Pop. Britain loves MJ!

Last week's No. 1 album, the Black Keys' Turn Blue, falls to No. 5 with 54,000 (down 67 percent). The Now 50 compilation slides 3-6 with 51,000 (down 37 percent).

With two new Hot 100 top 10s, two titles depart the top tier: Michael Jackson and Timberlake's "Love Never Felt So Good" (9-16), a week after Jackson became the first artist to reach the top 10 in five different decades, and Coldplay's "A Sky Full of Stars" (10-32).
