I Am a Fan, But... (What Makes You Heretic Among Other Fans?)

Girlfriend Is not the worst track on Off The Wall

The Girl Is Mine Is one of the highlights of off Thriller

State Of Shock is a bit meh

The Lost Children is a great song

Agree with all of them, 'cept for State of Shock. Love Mick and Mike's vocal trade-offs on that one!!

This is where the real magic is. The energy, the spontaneity, the rawness. I really wish he would have finished it with Freddie

4. I think the Jacksons other than Michael and Janet are ignored and completely underrated. They have awesome talents of their own.
I agree. while they all do have talent, Michael stood out already from the very beginning. of course, the lead singer of a group always does that. but anyway, they could have made it big themselves, as well, and that would automatically have given them more attention, for other things (like their talent), than being Michael Jacksons brother/sister, or a member of Jackson 5/The Jacksons/the Jackson family

What else, sticking with Michael.

1. I really like Invincible and Michael
2. I do not mind the fake tracks on Michael, Cascio does a decent impersonation.
3. There is no filler on Thriller, but I am sick of listening to it.
4. I think the Jacksons other than Michael and Janet are ignored and completely underrated. They have awesome talents of their own.
5. Marlon was the Jackson closest to Michael, look at all the publicity photos (Michael is always next to Marlon or leaning on him, Marlon was closest in age and probably the friendliest with Michael, he was easily the most affected at the funeral "Maybe now they will leave you alone")

I think that what bothered people (me included) is that they passed the songs as if they were from him, which they weren't. I don't mind covers but that wasn't the problem. I don't mean to turn this thread into discussion about that, but I wanted to point that out.

Was never a fan of the long, straight hair starting in 2000s. just didn't fit his overall look IMO. But hey man, you do you Mike.

I guess I should clarify with examples before I'm crucified by the girls here, haha :D Remember the Time's long hair is fine (has the signature curls) vs. Living with Michael Jackson era (very straight hair). I guess it's the curls that help give Mike his signature look, IMO.

it depends if he had facial hair at the same time (like in LWMJ). facial hair=sexy

I somewhat forgot that I don't like ITC ponytail. The sideburns are OK, but that's it.

I didn't think the long, straight hair suited him either. When he brought back the curls for This Is It, he looked 20 years younger. I remember when the first pic leaked of him with curls in early 2009, and some fans actually thought it was a pic from the Dangerous era

No, Girlfriend is not the worst song on OTW, It's The Falling In Love is IMO. And I love Girlfriend.

I love TGIM too, I don't care how cheesy it is.

In in recent years, I can't stand listening to We Are The World, it's too religious for my liking. His solo demo is better to me.

I can't stand the studio versions of Another Part Of Me and MITM, the live versions are WAY SUPERIOR.

Neither JGF nor Keep The Faith deserve the praise they get by fans. I wish JGF had been replaced by Price Of Fame instead.

I will support the HIStory Tour if it gets an official release. When it comes to choreography and theatrics, it's superior to The Bad Tour.

Talking about Michael in a personal level, he did very poor choices on both of his marriages. His first marriage was not a sham but it's not his most epic love story either.

Michaels hair just followed the times, but the 2000s look was mostly a wig.
I mean to 1969 he had the Marvin Gaye style crew cut popular with 60s soul singers
1969 to 1979 was the afro look, wildly in fashion then and it really dominated the Jackson 5 era. Gordy told them to grow afros as they were with it, signs of Black Pride and the kids would love them more. Joe was originally opposed when Gordy mentioned it was a brand and would be lucrative, he got on board. You may notice too each boy had a different style of afro. Jackie's was a standard but shortish halo shaped afro. Tito's was fuller on top with a wedge missing and more thinned. Jermaine had the permed afro that was bushy and elaborate looking, Marlon's afro was quite short and revealed a lot of forehead, and Michael's was Juvenile looking, quite bushy and covering a lot of his head.

I think they did this as they wanted each Jackson to standout as each would have their own following, apart from Michael and Marlon, the three older Jacksons looked quite similar, even with accessorised afros. Marlon and Michael were shorter at the start, but by 1973 Marlon had grown and 1975 Michael had too.

1979 to 1981 was the Jheri curl era, although all of them apart from Michael still had afro shaped hairdoes, but later 1980 style "piece afro" which was shorter and often oiled up, maybe with a wedge taking out like the dude from Boney M. The afros and discoey shimmer flares of the 1970s persisted into the Triumph era.

By 1983, all of the borthers had the Jheri curled mullet look that Balcks used in the mid late 80s. Michaels hairer was shorter but still Jheri curled.

By 1987 Michael was growing a very prominent mullet, which had the bangs and curls taken out around 1989 as his skin lightened as vitiligo worsened.

Around 1991/ 1992 in the Bangerous era, the mullet disappeared and he grew naturally long 1990s style hair.

He kept this look up to 2000 or so and then he had the long haired wigs from that point.

I have always liked their hair and would have an afro myself now, If I grew one.

Here's my unpopular opinion:

I believe that the solo albums that he made at Motown (Got To Be There, Ben, Music & Me, and Forever Michael) are just as important to his career as his adult solo albums. Most fans just ignore all of them, maybe with the exception of songs like Ben and Rockin Robin.

EDIT: Also, I think Don't Walk Away is the weakest song on ANY of his albums, including the Motown albums.

Also, I actually like most of Jermaine's solo material. The song Let's Get Serious is one of my all time favorites

I think he looked better with his Dangerous era hair and I think he should've kept that TBH.

I think Price Of Fame is a little overrated within the fan base. Al Capone, Free and Abortion Papers are much better songs

Don't Walk Away is a sweet song

The Love You Save is better than I Want You Back. I wish that MJ would have ditched the J5 Medley on his tours, and just performed the full version of The Love You Save

I don't like the Timberlake duet of Love Never Felt So Good. It's sounds too overproduced for my liking. I prefer the John Mcain produced version.

Sorry I can't agree, I love Price of Fame, but agree the other songs are great along with Don't be messin around and Streetwalker.

Seriously had he released Bad as a double album like Prince did in 1987 with Sign o the times, it still would have been huge.

Even better than TLYS, performing Who's Loving You, to ditch the medley to perform solo Motown songs such as One Day In Your Life, Music And Me. At least changing the songs and not having the same boring medley every tour. I'll Be There was always the highlight of it though.

I love the Pepsi commercial series with the song Bad but POF would have been more fitting as we saw in the rough cut. Some may think the song is overrated; however it represented better how Michael felt about having such monstrous superstardom than the Leave Me Alone short.

I mi have another one, The Lady In My Life is cheesier than TGIM. His vocals are gorgeous, I won't deny it, it's cheesy and it bores me nonetheless.

Butterflies is cheesier than The Lost Children

I sometimes wish that MJ would have replaced Wanna Be Startin Somethin with Another Part Of Me on his later tours. But performing both would be the best option

The quality of the Wembley DVD never bothered me. I would prefer a BAD Tour 88/89 show in better quality, but I don't think Wembley is unwatchable like some people here claim.

No way, man. Butterflies ain't cheesy, it's smoooooth. MJ showing those neo-soul cats how it's done!

Now how about this for a doozy? I've always felt that Stranger In Moscow was overrated.

Definitely agree. Never saw the big deal with it tbh.

Wow, I'm shocked someone agrees with me. I thought I was going to get a pasting for that one!!

Haha yeah I've just never saw what's so great about it. It's a good song sure. But that's all it is to me.

Nevermind. It's not worth it

I never liked the whole routine of Thriller during the Dangerous and HIStory Tours, when the guy (Who wasn't MJ btw) wears the werewolf mask. Mainly because the guy wearing the mask acts way too hyper.

I don't think anyone likes that part  that guy is like MJ on speed. sometimes I have to look the other way, cause he sucks so bad. I also never understood why he's wearing a long sleeved shirt on HIStory tour

Not really about his music but I wish he had been more accessible for interviews, no bs, just MJ and an interviewer.

Absolutely despise his 2000s hair, it looks fake.

I'm afraid that he would answer, "I'm sorry, this is too personal" to half of the questions.

yeah, and I don't blame him. it's not like he needed any more idiotic journalists to stick their nose in his privacy. what DOES bother me is that he didn't say "I'm sorry, this is too personal" more often when they got too personal. I wish he had done that with all of those type of questions, like he did when Oprah asked him if he was a virgin. also, I don't need any more interviews, he's been through enough of that crap, and he didn't like doing interviews
